Have often passed by this restaurant on the way to the Theatre next door. Two days ago we went for breakfast it was a total delight. Excellent service, excellent food, ambience, we will make it a favorite for sure.
Has a very beautiful patio inside with great ambience.
The only problem was they said they did not accept credit cards, after saying that can't be true as it is a hotel as well, they said the machine was broken, after saying we had not cash they reluctantly took the credit card. What a disgrace to LIE.

The Meson de San Jose is a jewel of a restaurant with wonderful food, great service and is located in a very pleasant, historic setting. It's a little tricky to locate - at Mesones No 38, you go through a small tienda and then into the tree shaded patio of the restaurant. The buildings surrounding the patio restaurant date from around the 1790's and add a wonderful ambiance to the great food. It's a must try while visiting San Miguel. We've been going there for 3 years - each time we visit San Miguel, and the staff remember us and are always very friendly and accommodating.

Uriel is the ultimate in wait staff and has always been helpful in assisting us in trying new dishes. We have yet to have a bad meal there! We have been visiting San Miguel for three years now and each visit has us spending more time here enjoying the courtyard atmosphere, the delicious food and our favourite waiter. This is a great spot for an afternoon drink and snacks when you need a break from the heat and sounds of the main part of the town. We can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant and look forward to returning during our winter 2011 stay in San Miguel!

We love everything about this restaurant- the waiter, the ambience, the food. This is our third time in SMA, and we can't stay away Meson de San Jose. The chicken enchilada verde are out of this world as is the Cobb salad. Every dish we have tried is tasty and very reasonable. Once an inn for travelers as well as a stable for their burros, the charming courtyard is a tranquil oasis amid the bustle of San Miguel. Uriel is the very personable waiter. We like him very much. With leafy trees and colorful pots of flowers, it is truly a little bit of heaven hidden behind old stone walls and very romantic.

A former burro stable, this is one the prettiest, most tranquil places in SMA, has a very reasonable menu and excellent service. Few people know about it and it isn't "popular" because it's not easy to come across. The entrance is a short dark hall from the street on the south side of Mesones, a couple of blocks up from the jardin, across from a large church and plaza, where they sell carpets, cell phones etc, and the entrance is inside at the end, on the left. It's my favorite place for a leisurely late breakfast or lunch. Breakfast with everything (eggs, beans, coffee, juice & bolillo) is $50p; good soups and sandwiches are $45-$60 p. If you go say hi to waiter Uriel from Keith
