“Unbelievable views”
Reviewed November 29, 2009

We stayed here as part of the Copper Canyon tour and we've never stayed in a hotel with such views. All rooms have balconies overlooking the Canyon and no words could do justice to the sense of openess and tranquility that the view gave.

The rooms were great and the shower was fantastic.

In the restuarant and bar area there was a large open fire which was just as well because it got pretty chilly in the evening.

My one little complaint was that there was no choice on the menu for lunch and dinner and being a vegetarian I had to skip the main course for dinner which was chicken. I did however have two portions of the starter so that was fine.

The hotel did a number of tours and I went on the horse riding one which £10 for two hours. Greart value and well worth doing

An unbelievable experience

i don't think i'll ever forget walking onto the balcony off our room and hearing the depth of silence while seeing the vast canyons below. while it's a pricey hotel it's well worth spending a night to see the sunset and the sunrise. we were treated to a double rainbow before sunset which was amazing. and then there are the hummingbirds flitting about on the big open patio off the lobby. they offer lots of options to see the area (all extra) but my husband liked the free guided walking tour of the grounds and down into one little village below. i relaxed in the comfortable lobby. they sort of accommodated my being vegetarian, offering fish instead of meal. meals were very salty but the lunch was really tasty.

The location is fabulous. You leave your curtains open so you wake in time to see the sun rise over the canyon. The rooms were comfortable and relatively clean.
The service and food were horrible, as other reviewers have noted. There was no lingering over a meal to chat, because the staff told you they need to set up now for the next meal, even if the next meal was breakfast the next day. The cleaning staff were obviously on some deadline as well. They were cleaning your room in stages long before checkout time.
This hotel had the worst sewer gas smell of any on our tour. You needed to keep the bathroom closed with its small window open to avoid the smell being in the bedroom, and the odor was pervasive outside of rooms.
This hotel has only one thing going for it: location, and for that reason only it is to be recommended.

After spending the previous few nights well off the main tourist track, it was a bit of a shock to arrive at the Posada Mirador and find a full house of cruise ship tourists and other very large groups. That said, the hotel is very comfortable, the food delicious, the service excellent, and the views -- well, they simply cannot be beat. Each room has the most amazing view of the canyons. There's great hiking nearby, and we also did a very exciting 2-hour horseback ride with an 81-year-old vaquero, which was a highlight of our stay. It's definitely worth staying at least one night here while you're exploring the Copper Canyon region.

One stays at this posada for the location and the views which are breathtaking. We visited here as part of a tour through the Copper Canyon. The posada is located on the edge of the canyon with the balconies of the rooms overhanging the canyon. During the day, one can see over 4,000 feet into the canyon. At night, the lack of light pollution reminds one what early human beings witnessed. And at dawn, one witnesses the sun rising directly across from the hotel. Worth every penny for the view.

However, the free welcome margarita tasted so bad that it was undrinkable. The nightly entertainment failed to engage many of the guests and the staff seemed vaguely uninterested. The front desk was not staffed after dinner, so we could not request a wake-up call. Our room was at the far end of the posada and represented a serious climb. We thought at first we were issued this room because we were younger and fitter than many in our group. But, later we realized that we had the smallest bags. So it was easiest on staff carrying the luggage.

The food was acceptable but not great. Snacks during happy hour consisted of popcorn which was not refilled. Dinner and lunch both included soup. Some loved the soups, but I'm not a big fan. Dinner was typical local cuisine served family style -- good portions and well prepared. Breakfast displayed good variety and was filling. Lunch was fish which seemed out of place and prepared with a orange glaze that clashed with the dish.

One can hike a short distance down into the canyon to visit a Tarahumara Indian family group. If one has ever visited the ancient cliff dwelling of Mesa Verde in Colorado, seeing this village will give one an understanding of what those cities must have look like with roofs and water still in place. One can also hike other trails. However allow plenty of time. It is a high altitude and the air is thin. Climbing is stressful and not for those with medical conditions.

amazing place with fantastic views of the canyon - rooms are spotless and modern - tiled and brightly painted with balconies. restaurant service is a bit limited not much choice off the standard set menu and the bar shuts far too early with no warning (10pm when we were there!) although the hotel was almost empty so perhaps understandable - it was great having such a fantastic location practically to ourselves.
