Reviewed April 9, 2013

We arrived at Kinnitty Castle after 9 days on the road in Ireland and were more than ready for a little style and comfort, and the one thing Kinnitty can deliver is style. It's an old building, 'Since 1209', the hotel boasts, and it looks like a castle with the front entrance up a short flight of stairs overlooked by two suits of armour, and it's sufficiently gloomy with candles and lots of old wood and red carpets and winding staircases which I experienced particularly when I carried our luggage up the three flights of stairs to get to our suite, the Hutchinson. It was huge with large windows overlooking the park outside, with a pair of stuffed chairs and a table so you could have a drink and admire the view. Acres of floor space, a separate bathroom of some size too. Having said all that, I'd like to mention that all the furniture was a bit tired, the carpet a bit faded, but still it added up to a nice package. Mind you, neither of us are fond of the many animal heads hanging from the walls, but I guess it's just part of the atmosphere. The Library Bar became a favourite haunt, and the service ll round was great.

Dear EdM389,

Thank you for your comments in relation to your stay at the Castle, we are delighted that the Castle met your expectations in terms of Authenticity. Each of our bedrooms are individually styled, all room layouts, furniture are all unique to a particular room. We are currently updating some of the bedrooms, this will be rolled out over the coming months. In relation to carrying your luggage to your room, It is Hotel policy that all guests are offered help with their luggage as we do not have a lift due to the nature of the building.

I will pass on your comments to the staff in relation to the levels of service that you experienced as they will be delighted.

We do hope to welcome you again in the future.

We booked from an online deal and had high expectations. The Castle is nice, but housekeeping standards are extremely poor. The room was huge with a fabulous big bed, but the room looked totally disorganised. It looked as if they had scattered huge wardrobes and dressers around the room, some of which had definitely seen better days. The bathroom wasn't properly cleaned.

The restaurant was good, and the bar fine. The dungeon bar had no atmosphere.
The directions emailed to us by the hotel were unclear, and took us the long way around.

With a little bit of effort, Kinnitty Castle could be 5 star, but it's a long way off it at the moment.

First view of the castle from the drive in was WOW!!! Lovely old building & red carpet entrance lit up by candles at night. Reception area welcoming & staff on arrival were very friendly. Have to say the walk to our room on the ground floor was exciting. Down the long castle corridors taking in the decor & everything along the way. Very nice. Had lunch in library bar and drinks after we arrived, again staff were very friendly and helpful. Took a walk around the grounds as the sun was shining before dinner. Dinner in the restaurant was gorgeous, couldn't fault anything. Again breakfast was the same, delicious!! Enjoyed drinks & live music in Dungeon bar too. Overall was very enjoyable stay with helpful & friendly staff. Great castle experience. Only thing was, in our room, Owney, there seemed to be a slight smell in the bathroom, only when the heating was on? Maybe this could be looked at. Would def go back again & recommend to family & friends.

A real period hotel with suits of armour and lots of stuffed wildlife, great breakfasts and a fully stocked bar. The surrounding area is very quiet and it's a fair drive from Dublin Airport. This hotel has no lifts and we were in the eaves of the castle so a "lot" of stairs to climb. Absolutely no noise at night and pitch black. The massive 4 poster cannopied bed we had was really good, as was the beamed room. A real get away from it all weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room without stairs if you are not 100% fit.

Last Thursday 9 members of my family stayed in Kinnitty to celebrate my birthday. We had the most wonderful time - the service, food, accommodation was superb. This is my third time to stay at Kinnitty & it gets better every time. Thank you so much for making our stay so very, very enjoyable.

My family and I stayed in Kinnity Castle for 2 nights on 9th and 10th March 2013 and we cannot fault the hoel at all. The food was excellent: great choice on the menu and my husband was delighted with his vegetarian option-we enjoyed it so much that we chose to eat in the restaurant on the second night too! The staff were so pleasant and took excellent care of us and went out of their way to make us all very welcome. We enjoyed lovely walks in the neighbouring forest and am only sorry we didn't have time to take the tour of the castle (save it for next time)! The bedrooms were fabulous, very comfortable and cosy, and well suited to my father's restricted mobility. All in all, a wonderful trip and we are already planning our next visit! Thanks to all at Kinnity or a wonderful trip!

I will make sure that your kind words will get back to all the staff.
