Stayed here for one night while attending a wedding. The hotel is charming and unique. Our room was huge and its originality made the experience feel like staying in an old house rather than a hotel. There are imperfections but they add to character of the castle. The staff, particularly at reception, were very helpful and laid back which added to to the relaxed feel of the place. The one exception was the bar staff working the wedding function, both of whom were graceless and lacking in any personality. Apart from that, I loved the place and would love to go back.

We had 9 days in Ireland and we stayed in many castle. Kinnitty Castle had the BEST staff, BEST food and the rooms we beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! We showed up late to the castle and we were met with candles and a lovely staff. They showed us to our rooms and then asked if we had eaten. We had not eaten but it was late and we did not expect the kitchen to be open still. It was time for the kitchen to close but she asked if we would like to have some dinner we said yes please thinking we might get a sandwich. She then said well get cleaned up and come down. We walked into a beautiful room where we sat down to the best dinner we had in Ireland. Now that is customer service!!!

We stayed here for a night as part of a package deal which included dinner. I knew it would have an old feel before we got here and this is what we wanted. I was looking to stay somewhere with a bit of a difference.

The staff here was friendly and very helpful and make you feel at home.

The room we stayed in was nice but the shower did not work properly so this was disappointing also the heating in the room was turned up very high.

There are many stories about this castle that say it is haunted. We had a bit of a ghostly experience ourselves. We both woke in the middle of the night to the sound of someone walk past our bed. My partner said to me that was someone upstairs and I replied we are in the attic!! So that was kind of scary but we weren't put off by it. Also on the stairs to the attic we always got a cold feeling.

The food here is nice. The deal we got allowed us to have dinner in the library bar but we decided to upgrade to the restaurant. We were very happy with our decision as the food was very good. Breakfast was lovely and the service was great.

The dungeon bar is a good crack and there was a trad session on which I believe is on most weekends.

There is a lovely walk at the back of the castle so bring walking shoes if your into that sort of thing.

To sum it up despite the problems in our room I would still recommend a stay here just for the experience alone.

Just back from a lovely weekend in kinnitty castle. Myself , my husband and 2 young kids had an excellent time. The hotel is full of character which is what we were looking for in our trip away. Our room was very spacious, with a massive four poster bed. Staff were very friendly and there was a great buzz around the hotel. Did hear a strange noise in our room but maybe I was looking to hear the monk! Great stay...

My wife watches the ghost hunter shows, Yeah I know, I've heard it all. Anyway, as a surprise I booked a suite for us at Kinnitty during our week long stay in Ireland as it was listed as one of the haunted castles.

We were there on a Sunday night. It is located in a very remote area with roads that this American has never seen in his life. Barely wide enough for one car at some points let alone enough to pass by someone doing 70kph. We were laughing the whole way. What an eye opener.

As soon as you drive up along the winding driveway, you feel the serenity of the estate. Once the castle comes into view, it is truly an impressive sight. You can drive right on up and park right in front if there is room.

Keep in mind now that this place is pretty old and hasn't had a renovation in many years, if ever. All of this just lends to the authenticity of the stay. I hope they never change a thing. Right down to the worn floor in the library bar, to the worn table tops from the many years of guests.

We stayed in the Ingram suite. It was a beautiful large suite with lovely furniture and an extremely comfortable king sized bed. It had a huge bathroom about the size of an average motel room. As many have stated, no, they do not have televisions in the rooms. Its a castle and we were just as happy not to have one. Its not like so many of the other castles that you can stay in. Once you close the door to your room you might as well be in a Ramada. Not the case here.

We passed on the main dinning room for dinner. We were ready for some Guinness and Jameson, so we went down to the dungeon bar. They had live Celtic music in the bar that evening. Really made the entire night feel authentic. We decided to have dinner in Monks Kitchen right next to the bar. It was 15 Euro or so pp less than the dining room. I want to say 30pp as opposed to 15 euro pp. We couldn't believe the quality of the food. That chef could put any of the food channel chefs to shame. I choose the baked salmon with vegetable soup as my appetizer. My wife had beef stroganoff and a great salad. They had so many items aside from that in which you were free to choose from. The fresh mozzarella and tomatoes were also outstanding. They had a tart for desert. Both of us were stuffed, but decided to split one anyway. We generally don't have desert, and the American version of a tart is usually filling from a can poured into a crust resembling that of cardboard. What a great decision we made that evening. It was indescribable The chef really has a talent.

The place was pretty empty being it was a Sunday night. Some of the locals come there to eat and have a drink or two, but by 10 or 11pm we were pretty much alone. Only 2 or 3 other rooms were booked for that night. They opened up the library bar for us and we sat there alone just enjoying the magnificent old library until about 1am. I imagine if noise bothers you, it could get loud in the bedrooms if the place was full. That sort of thing doesn't bother us though.

Breakfast was included in the rate. You could order room service or go to the main dining room. We decided that we wanted to eat in the dining room near a window. Again, breakfast was the best in all of Ireland. Way more food than one human can eat, and very nicely prepared.

Now if you are one of those people that only stay in 5 star accommodations, than this is not the place for you. We didn't check for dust, but I'm sure we could have found some. There might even have been a smudge or two on something but we weren't looking for that. The place shows it age in an elegant way.The bed was neat and clean as well as the bathroom, but it wasn't done up in Italian marble with heated floors and bath robes. That wasn't what we were looking for or would have wanted to pay for either.

Everyone we met was extremely nice and as helpful as could be. The price was more than fair and it really exceeded our expectations. A big thanks to the entire staff.

Room Tip: Get a suite. Smaller rooms have shared bathrooms.

We stayed in Kinnitty Castle for two nights with a package which included dinner, traditional Irish breakfast and a generous packed lunch. We fell in love with this beautiful warm castle. Although it is large it had an intimate setting. Lovely grounds and forests for walking. Very friendly staff and always helpful with questions. We explored the whole castle from top to bottom taking movies along the way! Our room was very warm and the window overlooked the chimneys.
There are various sitting rooms to read a book and enjoy a glass of wine. Would recommend staying on the top floor like we did for the character. We have visited Ireland several times and Kinnitty Castle is our favorite! We would return.

Room Tip: We loved our room. "Brian Boru"

Went to Kinnitty Castle with my husband for a one night well deserved break! What an experience! This is just fantastic. Where do I start? Just has to be with the staff, each and every staff member we encountered were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Really welcome, the staff obviously take pride in their place of work (who could blame them, its spectacular!) The Caslte grounds are beautiful, the Castle itself breathtaking.
Dinner was a set menu, €35 for 3 course dinner plus tea/coffee. No extra supplementary charges like in most hotels for steak. Food was delicious, as was breakfast.
The hotel library bar is most comfortable, big leather armchairs or 'throne' like chairs to sit and listen to live Traditional Irish music (Friday and Saturday I believe). And again no rip off bar prices here!
Travelling with a family pet - Boarding Kennells are available on Castle grounds!
We will definetly return. A truely wonderful experience.
