Owner description: The Home of Welsh Castle Life: Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Castle’s exciting past. Caldicot Castle’s impressive structure is surrounded by an idyllic 55 acre Country Park. You will be able to travel through time and discover the home of Welsh castle life, from medieval times to the twentieth century. The castle was developed as a fortress by Royal hands in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home. The river Nedern winds its way through the park and the wildlife pond is home to a variety of wildfowl.

I took my 6 year old son to the castle this morning and we had a great time. And, it was free to get in - always a bonus! You are asked to make a small donation, but not in an overbearing way and the suggestion is £3.00! Inside you could pay to have a go at archery which looked like fun. There were people in medieval costume who showed us a range of armour, weapons and household items from the period. My son got to try on some chainmail, a helmet and a small piece of armour. He was also able to hold a couple of the weapons and a shield which he was really thrilled with! He got to 'milk an almond' too and sniff a range of spices. There was no charge for any of this, the people were really knowledgeable, friendly and kind. We will definately be going again.

We visited Caldicot castle today as part of a groupon offer for the medieval day which included a medieval village set up inside the castle and displays of archery, knights fighting and maidens cooking! The castle itself is a great place to get lost as there are so many nooks and crannies within the towers so it's a good spot for hide and seek! My 4 year old found it entertaining and enjoyed seeing the victorian rooms in the main tower. We will go back in the summer and take a picnic as there are plenty of lovely picnic spots.

The castle is a lovely place but the organisation of their banquets are terrible. They book you up, take your money then cancel 2 days before your mean't to go there. I and my friends will certainly not be wanting to have a party there again.

We are very sorry for the late cancellation of this banquet by the organisers. It was the last banquet run by Crown Hotels and Restauarants who are no longer associated with the castle or with the banquets.

This castle is one of the better kept castles around Wales.
The castle itself is quite small but it's well kept and provides the visitor with plenty of information and some activities.
Attached to the castle is a banquet hall, running fully licensed medieval banquets (booking required) as well as other events and private bookings, including weddings.
The grounds around the castle are spacious, interesting and open.
During the year there are many events running at the castle and the grounds.
There's a children's playground, public toilets and a shop.
Some of the events you can find here throughout the year are:
VW's in the Park
Music festivals
Medieval recreation

if you're local then you can apply for a pass to allow access for free (outside of special events).
