My husband and I came here on our trip for our 15 year anniversary, the lodge is gorgeous, the staff are great and the cabins are extremely quaint,we stayed in the lodge room, which was very reasonably priced. My husband loved the beer that is made on site, we ate dinner & breakfast here & it was great too. We hiked to near by Moxie Falls, which is breath taking, there is white water rafting, but we did not partake, due to cooler weather. The are no tv's in the room, but I think you can request them, but it did not bother us as we were there for our anniversary. Well worth you time!

I was brought here on a surprise bachelor party weekend and it was the perfect trip. We had a huge cabin which handled the 9 of us impressively. The brewpub in the main lodge has some great fresh beers made downstairs. Our cabin was far enough from other groups that we didn't disturb anyone at late hours and still close enough that we could stumble back from the main lodge in about 10 minutes. The entire staff is very helpful and friendly. Try to get Brandi if you go rafting, she's the best guide they have!

Having stayed nearby for 3 nights, this was the closest place to have lunch or dinner. Food was good- hamburgers, salads and the like. Resort allowed day visitors use of the facilities including free use of a kayak and the swimming pool! Very nice place to visit. The cabins are very comfortable looking and they also have some other properties in more remote locations. They offer group rafting trips that are said to be wonderful.

At soon to be 59, I thought I was too old for such an adventure, but the trip was awesome! It helped that we had a similarly "mature" guide - Peter Brown. We went on the Kennebec run, which meant some exhilirating runs through whitewater in the morning, stop along the river for lunch, and a somewhat more peaceful float down river. We stayed in one of the cabins behind the main lodge. It has a kitchenette, including a small refrigerator and microwave, as well as a grill outside so you can do your own breakfast and dinner. Wish we had done a bit of better planning, because the food in the restaurant is just so-so. Every step of the way was organized, with the client's safety uppermost. Don't let your anxiety stop you - go for it!

Well, this was the 7th time that my wife and I rafted with Northern Outdoors, and the 5th time that we rafted the Penobscot, and as usual, we had a blast!

We had a crowd of 14 people (some return rafters, some newbies...) and everyone had a great time, and are looking forward to next year's trip. Great job by guides Term and Todd too!

This was the 4th year in a row that Term was our guide. We ask for him every year and we will be requesting him and Todd for next year as well. As long as the Mayans are wrong, we'll be back, and hopefully we'll bring more people! ;)

We visited Northern Outdoors in August for 2 nights with 3 kids, ages 10, 13 and 16. We stayed in a logdominium that was pretty basic, but considering we were in a pretty remote area of Maine, the accommodations were acceptable. The beds in the loft were comfortable but the trundle bed and sleep sofa were very lumpy.

The resort itself included an outdoor pool, hot tub, brewery and restaurant. The food was good, typical pub food. We were able to get Wi-Fi at the lodge as well. The resort could probably use some updates, but again we went for the rafting experience and did not expect luxury accommodations.

We did the family adventure package which I would highly recommend. It included a float trip, where they drove us a few miles up the river and dropped us off with inflatable kayaks and we paddled/floated back to the resort. It was a good way to get everyone acclimated with the river. We also took a hike to Moxie Falls where we saw a beautiful waterfall. In the evenings, we played baggo outside and toasted s ‘mores with kits they provided.

The rafting trip was the highlight of our vacation by far. Northern Outdoors is very organized, safety conscious and we all felt completely comfortable in the hands of our guide. The guides have a lot of experience and really go out of their way to make the trip fun for everyone. The water was warm in August but we opted to rent wetsuit tops and booties (inexpensive to rent and you must wear water shoes or fully enclosed sandals – no flip-flops. Northern Outdoors has the earliest slot on the river, meaning no wait to start rafting. Mid-day we stopped for lunch which was a delicious bbq. In the afternoon we were able to swim through some rapids which was very fun. Even if you don't stay at Northern Outdoors, I would recommend rafting with them.

Another highlight was the staff – they were all helpful, friendly, outgoing and funny. They put together a great slideshow and video of the rafting trip which is a must-see.

Northern Outdoors does it right! After an 8 hour drive from NYC we arrived at Northern Outdoors and were immediately greeted with friendly and knowledgable staff.

ACCOMODATIONS:
Our group consisted of two couples and we stayed at the Lakeside cabins, 3 miles down the road. The rustic cabin provided everything we needed for our four night stay. The view from the cabin was beautiful as we faced the lake. Though other cabins were nearby it still felt private and serene. We cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner while at the cabin. There were four double beds and four queens. We spent most of our time outside at the picnic table and fire pit. We even enjoyed a morning swim on our second day. Maids came by every morning to replenish towels, etc.

RAFTING:
It was my first time rafting but the others had been in different parts of the country. Our first day we did the Kennebec River. The safety and instructional spiel in the beginning was helpful and entertaining. We then picked up our gear (you can rent wet suits, jackets, booties, etc. from $5-$15) and hit the bus for a 30 minute ride to the river. We got the guide that led the morning safety talks and she WAS AWESOME! Try and request EMILY if you can! She was very knowledgable about the river and gave clear and informative directions while on the raft. We were so thrilled to have spent the day with such a great guide, that was fun to be around, that we requested her a couple days later for the Dead River.

Rafting was really fun and adventurous. We stopped for lunch on the Kennebec where all the guides were buzzing around prepping our hot cocoa, GORP and hot lunches. It was really fun hanging out and eatting before we hit the second round of rapids. The food was good and all the guides were really friendly and helpful.

Another thing Northern Outdoors does right is the video and photographs. It was so fun watching live footage from our adventure and look through the in-action photographs.

All in all, this was an amazing trip from the accomodations, to hiking to rafting with Emily. The sights were beautiful (though we never saw a moose!) and would definitely come back for the Triple Crown!

Thanks, NO!!
