Beautiful place, gardens and forests.
Well appointed chalets with tranquil and private gardens.
The host and hostess are most charming and welcoming.
Their cottage industry organic cordials and preserves factory is most interesting. Better yet is the cooking classes of persian food! We definitely recommend the classes.

Kuhestan is a very special place in a breathtaking setting! Brett and Sharzaad are gracious hosts and Sharzaad's garden is something to see and experience. It is also a wonderful area for birders with a few very rare forest species occuring there. The cottages all have breathtaking views, you'll never want to leave this peaceful haven!

We loved the cottage with a room for our 8 and 9 yr old and our own room with fireplace. What stands out are the gardens , which we were given a personal tour of, the hospitality and warmth of the hosts and owners, the breathtaking views and of course the excellent Kuhestan Cordials they produce and sell.
it is central and perfect for day trips around the region.
We will certainly be back!

I'm always reluctant to rave about a place that I enjoy going to, because I worry that the next time I want to book I won't be able to get accommodation. However, I can't be that selfish. Brett and Shahrzad, who own this magnificent farm, are the most wonderful hosts and over the years we have struck up a fabulous relationship with them. The self-catering cottages are set in a corner of the farm with a garden in front, that has a steep drop down to the forests below. In the early mornings, if your timing is right, you can see and hear the Samango monkeys swinging from tree to tree, foraging for food. You are surrounded by beautifully-maintained gardens and the cottages themselves are spotlessly clean, very functional and provide everything you need for a relaxed break from the everyday. It is sufficiently far from Johannesburg to provide the feeling of a real gettaway, but not so far that it becomes implausible to travel there for a long weekend. I highly recommend Kuhestan Farm Cottages. In the berry season, after the picking, you are able to stroll about and pick raspberries at source, still warm from the sun and deliciously sweet. Having been there four times now, sadly I have never been in avo picking season, but have been the beneficiary of some of the late produce. Treat yourself. You'll be so glad you did.

We had a really great stay at Kuhestan. Did not expect such as spectacular garden, or that we would be staying right on the edge of the indigenous forest.

Our hosts Brett and Sharzhaad really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. This was totally unexpected seeing as it was self-catering. We had warm electric blankets in the bed when we arrived, heated towels in the bathroom and an open fireplace. The accommodation was really well appointed, even with a hairdryer and special touches in the kitchens and bathrooms. This was way above our expectation.

It really felt more like a B&B/Private Lodge stay as all ingredients for a delicious breakfast was provided every day - including freshly baked bread.

The location is ideal for exploring the Magoebaskloof trail - we walked 1km up the road to get onto the main trail, and walked for hours in the forest, past several streams and waterfalls. I got up early to walk in the beautiful gardens in the mist, and Sharzhaad was kind enough to tell me what all the different trees, azaleas and other plants were - this was incredibly special.

The highlight of the weekend was the impromptu cooking course. We had not booked for the cooking course, but Sharzhaad ran a Persian (her birth place) cooking course on Saturday, and we were able to join in. What an experience! She shared stories of her childhood, videos on Iran (still Persia to her) and her amazing flair in the kitchen. Incredible flavours and combinations, and as a family we have been totally inspired to try some of Sharzhaads recipes at home.

As a family, I don't think we've ever had such an all round, wonderful experience. 5 star rating from us, and I feel that we made 2 more friends in the process. We will be back to stay with Brett and Sharzhaad soon.

Room Tip: All the cottages face the garden with the indigenous forests as a backdrop, so all cottages are wond...

A friend and I have been extremely blessed to have been able to visit Kuhestan about 4 times now. We have been at varying times of the year and the experience is always outstanding. Brett and Shahrzad are the most fabulous hosts and can't do enough for you. The cottages are spotless, cozy, private and nestled in the most beautiful gardens bordering on the forest. We've regularly enjoyed seeing the Samango monkeys hopping across the tree tops to forage for food in the morning (must be the breakfast run) and do the return trip late in the afternoon, probably for cocktail hour. It is a fabulous place to just relax and read or play board games or to visit the wonderful attractions in the area. A visit to the Coach House (even if it is only for tea, but do stock up on necessities in their shop) is a must, so is a trip to the waterfalls at the bottom of the hill on the road to Tzaneen. Haernetsburg is very small but quite quaint and well worth the trip.
Kuhestan is the one place we try to visit every year and I feel as if I have a hole in my soul if I haven't visited for a while.

Room Tip: There are 2 cottages for couples and 2 cottages with twin beds, all are perfectly located but we pre...

We spent a few nights at the Kuhestan Farm Cottages and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The self catering accommodation had everything one needs, and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. (His wife was away at the time). The Farm cultivates organic olives and avocados and the cottages are situated around their most beautiful garden. We had a wonderful hike in the surrounding forest accompanied by an extremely knowledgeable bird guide.
