We have been coming to the Vail Valley for many years and Bob Doyle is a legend in these parts, known for creating a warm, inviting dining atmosphere, great menu and daily drink specials and more flat screen TV's and pool tables than anywhere in town. Bob's Place is a large establishment in the town of Avon, and is divided into a restaurant on one side and a terrific sports bar on the other side. The sports bar is a great place to mingle with the locals, watch a wide variety of sporting events, play pool, throw darts or just relax after a long day on the slopes with a cold beer and hot wings. We holed up there one afternoon during a big January snowstorm and found the place jumping with stranded tourist and locals alike. Since we couldn't get up the hill to our hotel at Beaver Creek we decided to stay for dinner and wait out the storm. Bob's son Chris, who is the general manager, showed us to our table and pointed out the nighly dinner specials, such as Chicken Diablo $12.50, a sauteed chicken with chipotle peppers, onions, bacon and a rosemary sherry butter sauce and the Salmon Vera Cruz $14.50, fresh salmon in a spicy vera cruz sauce, avocado garnish served with a cinnamon baked banana. Both were very well prepared and yummy! Bob's serves a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu with kid-sized portions for the little ones. The restaurant side is much quieter than the sports bar and has photos and posters of many famous Bob's (like Bob Hope, Bob Dylan, etc..) on the walls and is a great place for families who want a quality meal without the high Vail Valley prices. Before we had finished our meals, Bob, the legendary owner, came by our table to ask how our food and service was and to let us know the roads had been cleared and are now safe to drive back to our hotel. Drive slowly he said and come back tomorrow night! What times the game on, Bob!
