“Wonderful! Authentic Italy”
Reviewed July 5, 2014 via mobile

We shared the Mista Salad and Lasagna. The salad was fresh and full of flavor. The pickled caper berries added a kick. All the flavors worked well together. But the Lasagna! Man, was it ever excellent with a pesto topping, well-blended cheeses, and perfect marinara-like sauce. The Italian sausage is excellent, also. Altogether, it was a great meal in a nice place. It is worth the trip to Avon just for this restaurant. We ate outside in the relaxing atmosphere.

“Authentic Italian gem tucked away in Avon”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

This little Italian gem is tucked away in a very unexpected spot, but it's worth the effort to find it! It's on the main floor of an unassuming condo building, but once you step through the doors, you are in a charming eatery with wooden beams overhead, artistic glass light fixtures, and fresh flowers on the bar. It's classy and intimate, but welcoming and not uptight. After spending time in Italy a few years ago, we have been ruined on mediocre Italian food and are always in search of authentic Italian flavor and fresh made pasta. Ticino didn't disappoint!
We started with the cheesy garlic bread...hit the spot! We then shared the lasagna and the gnocchi in the pesto cream sauce. Oh, the gnocchi! It was the perfect consistency, little pillows of pasta, and the pesto cream sauce was flavorful and creamy but not overpowering. It was a great pairing and I will definitely be ordering the gnocchi with pesto cream sauce again! The lasagna was also good, a huge portion, with a good cheese to meat ratio and a drizzle of pesto on top. I like that they allow you to create your own pasta dish, choosing a pasta, a sauce, and the option to add a protein. The chicken parmigiana looked fabulous and it's on my list to try with spaghetti and the rosa sauce on our next visit. The only thing that I was missing from our time in Italy was some fried zucchini flowers and the abundant carafes of cheap but delicious house wines.
The service was attentive and friendly. It was chilly, so we ate in the dining room, but there is also a quaint little patio lined with colorful flower boxes to enjoy the beautiful weather Vail valley is known for in the summer!
When we are craving good Italian food in the Vail valley, we'll definitely be back.

“Good Italian Food”

This place is small but the food is fantastic, particularly the appetizers. Oh, and the lasagna; don't miss it. The portions are also immense so be prepared.

“Amazing food!”
Reviewed June 24, 2014

On vacation from our home in Illinois, my wife and I consulted Trip Advisor for places to eat in the Avon-Beaver Creek, Colorado, area and noticed that Ticino's was No. 1. We gave it a try and it certainly lived up to the top billing. In fact, we ate there three nights in a row ... we have never done something like this while on vacation. The area has plenty of restaurants (a few are next door to Ticino's), but life doesn't get much better than enjoying a great meal and a few drinks on a sunny, Colorado patio with your significant other and being treated like royalty in the process!

First and foremost, the food was fantastic. Try the lasagna. We were told it was a Tuesday lunch special that became so popular that they decided to put it on the menu permanently. For $18.95, you receive a large serving of lasagna that will likely satisfy you or require you to take some home. We also enjoyed a pizza (probably large enough for two semi-hungry people but really intended for one person; I'm a 6-foot, 200-pound man and I took two pieces back to our hotel) and make-your-own-pasta dishes, which were both excellent. The restaurant offered several pasta dishes with several sauces and toppings and, I think, a fairly extensive menu; our hotel concierage told us the arrabbiata sauce was spectacular but we opted to not try it because the lasagna was so good! We also ordered and loved their appetizer of cheesy, garlic bread with marinara sauce.

The service was equally fantastic. The various waiters/waitresses checked on us regularly but were not overbearing in doing it. As another reviewer wrote, the owner and/or cook also came to our table each night and asked if we were happy. We were treated like VIPs each night! In talking to the waitress, who is the daughter-in-law of the owner, she informed us that they take great pride in serving fresh food with homemade ingredients. It really shows in the final product.

If we had any complaint, it would be the prices, which were not horrible but a little high. In our hometown, we also have an excellent Italian restaurant (admittedly, we think Ticino's is a little better ...) and the prices were slightly higher than we're used to paying. Each night, our bill was at least $54 (excluding tip) for two people but that included two dinners, a glass of wine for my wife and a soda or beer (try the Sunshine wheat beer!) for myself.

Overall, though, the food/service is well worth the price. We stayed at the Westin Riverfront hotel and Ticino's is probably a two-minute walk across the street ... extremely convenient and pretty easy to find. There was a lot of construction going on around the restaurant and, while we had no complaints about the noise, there just wasn't a lot of great views from the patio. Perhaps another small complaint: the patio is nice but I would say there's not a lot of ambience. This is a small restaurant with limited seating. While we didn't have any problems being seated, we did hear that reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.

Great food and great people. We may return to Avon for a future trip in order to return to Ticino's! Yes, it's that good, in our humble opinions.

Charles is a wonderful host. Loved the food. Loved the Italian accents. We will come here again.

I had handmade pappardelle. I recommend it. The eggplant Parma was great.
