“A haven for the soul”
Reviewed May 19, 2011

After a week in a decidedly eco-unfriendly hotel in Cape Town, two nights at Samhitakasha was a return to sanity for me. I love their philosophy of radical respect for the environment - a philosophy that is communicated clearly and carefully but without being preachy. If you want your holiday to have as minimal negative impact on the world around you as possible, this is the place to come. I came away feeling so relaxed, balanced and in tune with the things that are important to me.

A large comfortable bed in a beautifully crafted room with a wooden table next to large windows where I could sit and write. When I needed a break I was five minutes walk away from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. A jug of water flavoured with mint from the organic garden is just one example of the care and attention to detail from the wonderful hosts.

We were at Samhitakasha for a much needed break from the ratrace of Gauteng when we heard the news of one of our parents having passed on. This house was healing in its own sence and we could not have been in a better space to deal with the initial shock. Indeed both Simric and Carey are unconventional but refreshingly "real" and sincere. Most so called sustainable establishments can learn from both of them.

I was drawn to this intriguing home while browsing for a place to stay while in my office on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. I was not disappointed and enjoyed my 5 night stay, which begun with a 0030 arrival (thanks KLM). I was none the less graciously received. I am Cape Town born, now living in France and I chose Muizenberg because I had business to do in Cape Town (easy 30min drive), I wanted to be close to the beach and I love the walk along the coast to Kalk Bay and exploring the lovely coastline to Simonstown. I arrived with a light mist and the sound of the sea from my room....magic! The room and my hosts were perfect.

Situated close to train, beach promenade and old village this B& B is excellently placed. You can walk everywhere easily and hop on the train to Cape Town if you need to.

Staying over at this homely cob gueshouse feels good in every way. Wondeful hosts, great inspiration from what they've created as well as real rest ! As I walked in, it was obvious the difference Cob building brings - soothing, calm, quiet, warm when it needs to be, Light and airy. I left feeling this is the way to live !

The Cob House is an eco-friendly environment, built almost by hand by the owners. It harks back to an earlier time, when people hand-crafted things and really cared about their homes. The place is great, the hosts friendly and I learnt a lot while there.

I would certainly recommend this place to travellers who want to expierence life a little differently.
