We've been to the Stags Head several times before, but had to write a review about our meal last night, it really was excellent. So much so we asked the chef to come out of the kitchen to thank him. I really don't understand some previous reviews, maybe people don't think they're 'foodies' unless they're moaning about something. Either way, we went for 'a bit of tea' with friends and were treated to a first class dinner. After some lovely starters, ( patatas bravas and a Pernod king prawns ) my perfectly cooked lamb rump off the specials was beautiful, as was my wife's tortellini. My lamb came with black pudding mash and honeyed white beetroot, both delicious. Our friends had similar and were equally impressed. The service was spot on, friendly but relaxed and the staff themselves were lovely. We will obviously be returning!

was disorganised had to wait ages for the meal to arrive, when finally it came was very bland staff seem very dopey and not geared for running a pub at all also lots of drunken locals standing round the bar shouting to each other.

The chips had been cooked before the oil was ready and were really greasy and the salad was covered in oil but the home made burger was delicious. The kids were all happy with theirs and my hubby enjoyed his steal burger. An extra £1 for cheese seemed a bit steep though on top of £9 for a burger. We sat in the lovely garden with a free bouncy castle provided so the kids loved it! Great for a drink and good atmosphere but not overwhelmed with the food.

The Stags Head is really frustrating for me.

It's a regular visit because in many ways we love this place, the country lanes and the country inn feel. The frustration comes in as much as we have no idea what we are going to get until we are in the car home. Sometimes the food and service are simply great - whereas on other occasions they seem to struggle, food tastes over salted, over cooked and the service can get sloppy.

This happens normally when they are busy, so time your visit!
