“Dinner on Monday evening”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

This was the first time visiting since the changes in ownership, we were a bit apprehensive. The chap behind the bar welcomed us and showed us to our table. The menu had changed but it was varied and interesting and about the same prices as before. The wine list was shorter and not so varied. Our food was very good overall no complaints we especially enjoyed the beetroot marinated smoked salmon. We felt the staff were no so attentive and friendly but nothing to complain about. Overall it was a good dinner and we were not disappointed. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday so they must keep up the good work and keep improving,

Our return visit saw a few changes at the Crown....it's seems that it's no longer a Kiwi! We were apprehensive at first but as it turns out just as good if not.....better! A wider choice of real ales are on offer and a slightly diverse menu. We found it to be a little more relaxed but in a good way, staff still attentive and friendly we will be back.

Rooms fresh and attractive, bathrooms a bit compact. Staff friendly. Good gastropub supper, breakfast good apart from overcooked bacon. £105 for dinner bed and breakfast in single room can't be bad. There's really nothing more to add but aparently I have to write 200 characters min so all I would say is this is a first class place to stay if you want to be in this part of Norfolk.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 & 6 have some traffic noise if (double glazed) windows are open

This was our 5th trip to the Crown, we absolutely loved the food here on past visits, this time however we noticed on entering thing had changed, no familiar staff, waiting staff wearing jeans, no specials on the wall, no nibbles olives etc to have before our meal, we ordered what we fancied on the menu
For starters we both had scallops & slow roast pork, the scallops were delicious the pork was very dry & chewy, for our. Main course my. Husband had surf & turf ( cooked medium) , which was well done the surf was 2 prawns! How ever there was enough chips on his plate for 4 people & virtually inedible as there was enough salt on them for 10! & i like salt. My main was lamb which was so rare I could not get my knife through it or the lamb fat, on telling the young waiter when he cleared the table ( as no one came to ask if all was ok at any other point during the meal) he didn't know what to say, when he Returned he said it wasn't raw the chef said it was cooked in a water bath for 2 hours, which I'm sorry no it wasn't as meat cooked in a water bath for the correct amount of time is delicate & pink & flavoursome , mine was bland very tough & still has blood coming from it! When we paid the bill the bar man asked if we enjoyed our meal, so I said no & explained, his response was oh sorry about that then ! At no point was we offered any discount or favour for this appalling meal... I am very disappointed about this & we will never return again or sing there praises like we always did plus I never usually complain if anything isn't quite right this is probably the only time .

Had lunch here . The pork was very good and the sea bream was delicious.Service was good and with a smile. The atmosphere was very pleasant and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Error made on our order but this was sorted quite quickly. Perhaps a little overpriced for a lunchtime. Hope to be back

Me and a few friends have been here before and yet again it never fails to impress, we turned up unexpected for lunch, and we received a very warm welcom and was shown to a lovely table by the fireplace on top of which was full of interesting artefacts, we decided to order some of the specials, of which I had a chicken salad, which was the tastiest thing I had ever tasted, nice juicy pieces of chicken on a bed of extremely well dressed leaves, ( must add that the aubergeen/ ratatouille looked and smelt amazing that one of my friends had)
We accompanied our meal with some local ales which never fail to impress Aswell as a scrumptious desert, topped with the most amazing sorbets you could imagine, I really can't enthuse more about how wonderful this place is definitely worth a trip and I know if I lived a little closer that I would be there without a doubt everyday !

One more point I have to add is about the staff, they are a really friendly and welcoming bunch of people and extremely professional in what they do!
