One of the Jyotirlingam, the visit is completed only by Mamleshwar Temple also on the other side of the River. If you are lucky, Sanskrit Vidyapeeth's students chanting of Shiv Stotrawill take you out of this world. The place to stay is Madhya Pradesh Tourism Resort which is nearby and is located with wonderful ambience.

Go with sacred Heart and find the beauty of Shiv's blessing.

Omkareshwar is situated in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh State in India. It is about 20 kms from Mortakka in Madhya Pradesh.

Omkareshwar is formed by the sacred river Narmada. This is one of the most sacred rivers of India.

Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to God Shiva. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is on an island called Mandhata or Shivapuri in the Narmada river.

Omkareshwar and Amareshwar are situated on either side of the river Narmada. But as per the sloka on dwadash jyotirligam, Mamleshwar is the jyotirling. Both are connected by a bridge on the river Narmada. Boats are available to cross the river. Pilgrams take a holy dip in the river, before they proceed to visit the temple. Abhisekhams are done at both the temples.

Omkareshwar is well connected by Train and buses. Ujjain is about 130 kms from this place and Indore, the capital of Madhya Pradesh is about 80 kms. One private trust exists where ample good accommodation is available for an overnight stay. However, good food is a problem to get.

One of the twelve of the Jyortirlings,it is situated in pristine surroundings on an island with the temple(five storied) on a rockface with River Narmada flowing down in a deep gorge below. It was constructed by King Mandhata and houses Omkareshwar on the ground floor with Mahakareshwar,Siddhnath,Gupteshwar, and Digshwar on the upper floors. It can be approached by two foot bridges or by boat when one has to take a flight of steps. The top view from the balcony is heavenly. One can visit Manmaleshwar temple on the other side or take a parikma and visit the confluence of rivers Narmada and Kaveri. The Kandhwa road out of Indore which takes us to Omkareshwar is also very good esp. when it hiys the Ghats.

I recently visited Omkareshwar and its a very beautiful and peaceful place to be.Best place to stay is the MP Tourism hotel.Visit the ghats and do take a dip in Holy river 'Narmada'.It is very refreshing.Do take a boat ride and don't forget to negotiate as much as you can.Charges for parikrama are as low as 40 Rs and crossing from one side to another on boat is 10 Rs only.Visit the Lord Shiva temple as it is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga.Avoid the priests for any kind of ritual.
