“Nice hotel”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

Holiday Homes is another place which fits into the mould of most Madhya Pradesh Tourism hotels these days: it's clean, reasonably priced, is well located, approachable and has a very likable atmosphere and character. Both the tents and rooms are well appointed and make for a comfortable, enjoyable stay. The staff is helpful, friendly and usually prompt. The restaurant is simple, not offering a lot of options, but the food is fresh and hygienic. Amarkantak is a small place, so all the important places (from the point of view of both eco and religious tourists) are easily accessible from the hotel. This is certainly a place I'd want to stay in again.

Amarkantak is a small hilly religious place. Hotel Holiday Homes at Amarkantak is very good. The rooms are big in size. The staffs of the hotels are very co-operative. Foods are simple like home-made and as well as testy too. The surrounding of the hotel is excelent. I stayed in the hotel many times and in different season. The garden in front of the hotel is good but the authority should take care to plant more numbers of different types of flower trees in the garden. The road on the way to Amarkantak from Bilaspur is wonderful - not for the road condition but for the area through which the road goes. I really love the place.

You like this hotel more because of the surrounding environment. The hotel offers both rooms and tents, either of which is equally good. It is located at the outskirts and is soaked in peace and tranquility. Food is simple, homely and tasty. On your way back, on request, they will pack your lunches as well.

The places of attractions are a bit far from here, but you can manage a taxi from the hotel. Most of the phone networks do not work here. You need to rely on the hotel amenities/ services completely, as there are no nearby market or taxi stand. Above all, the hotel does not accept credit cards.

Holiday Homes is the MPTDC hotel in Amarkantak. It is probably the best option in town, given that Amarkantak is a small town with limited facilities. The hotel has a very nice garden, very clean rooms, and a decent restaurant. The service is also quite prompt. The location of the hotel is also quite good- it is about a five-minute drive from the Narmada Udgam Mandir, which is the main attraction. The only najor grievance we have is with the taxi operator that the hotel gave contacts for. The taxi provided was old and broke down in the middle of the trip leading to serious difficulties. Also, given that it gets quite chilly at night in the winter, the hotel should have a sufficient supply of spare blankets or have room heaters that can be rented for the night.

Amarkantak is in Madhya Pradesh approximately 120 kilometers from Bilaspur and some 220 kilometers from Bandhavgarh, the famous tiger reserve. I had hired an Innova to travel to Amarkantak. The road is through various small towns and hilly regions. It is best to avoid the journey post sunset on the hilly areas as the traffic is less.
Amarkantak is considered to be the birthplace of River Narmada and Son. River Narmada is one among the few rivers which flows towards the western side to get merged in Arabian Sea. In mythology it is said that one who takes a dip in holy River Ganga gets cleansed of all the sins; the same River Ganga comes to take dip in River Narmada to cleanse all the sins which people leave with her. It is also said that Lord Vishnu had given boon to River Narmada that there would be no drought near its banks and it would always be green. The same is still evident today also.

The major attractions of Amarkantak are Narmada Temple with River Narmada origin, Son river Origin, Old Archeological temple, Kapildhara, Dudhdhara, Mataji ki Baggi, Shiva Temple and Jain Temple. The Archeological temple is near to the main temple. Kapildhara is the place where River Narmada id first seen after the main temple. This is a place where one can spend 2-3 days is peace and return fully energized. This temple town provides veg food.

One should be cautious look at the expiry dates of the soft drinks/ juices and beverages sold in this belt as almost all have crossed the expiry date.

We booked a Suite and an incerdibly low rate of Rs 700/- and was amazed to see the clean and comfortable suites in this hotel. The hotel is well decorated - you see a lot of flowers in the garden. Only minus point of Amarkantak is you do not get any Non veg items here. Fodd was reasonable and the staff were cooperative. They even helped us in booking cars - we went tp Kanha from Amarkantak. There is a local travel agent named Gabbar dada - he resembles Gabbar Singh of the Hindi Mega movie Sholay - who gives reasonable rates for hiring cars.

Amarkantak is in M.P. and is 43 km from a small station Pendra Road and almost 65 km from Anuppur which is the distt headquarter for pendra and amarkantak. It is a very beautiful place to stay for almost 2-3 days.It can be compared with Pachmarhi, again in MP but where Pachmarhi is a renouned hill station,Amarkantak is in very remote and not so famous. We caught Chattisgarh Sampark kranti to Pendra Road.It departs at 1725 hrs from Nizamuddun,New Delhi and reaches at 1035hrs at Pendra Road. One can go to amarkantak from pendra as well as anuppur but pendra is a better option. We hired a shared taxi from pendra road station which charged Rs.100/- per head and it took 45mts to reach amarkantak. We have already booked MP Tourism resort named,Holiday Homes. It is very economical and best located in amarkanatak. The quality of food is very very excellent and rooms were also very clean and hygenic. The lacking part is the service, but in govt. hotels, one must be after service. For local sight seeing,we hired a local taxi which was maruti van who charged Rs.300/- only for a 4hour sight seeing which included,Narmada Udgam Sthasl,Kapil Dhara,Doodh Dhara Maa ki Bagiya,Jain Mandir which is still under construction but is a must to see.
One most important thing to notw is that amarkantak is DRY and no Non-Veg is available. If you are fond of drinking, have your quota from Pendra or Anuppur.
It is worth visiting for 2-3 days there for relaxing.
