“BEST WEDDING EVER”
Reviewed January 7, 2011

We rented the entire property for our wedding the last week of October, 2010, and it was amazing. Jacob and the entire staff did everything to make our wedding exactly what we wanted. I really can't say enough about how great everyone at La Luna is. Everyone from the grounds keepers and maids, the reception, restaurant and bar staff, and the manager were awesome. We couldn't have asked for more.
During the week we were at La Luna we found ourselves not even wanting to leave the grounds (which is not our normal tendency). The food was awesome. We loved starting our day with a beautiful breakfast of fresh fruit, toast, coffee and fresh juice on our cabana's patio (more substantial breakfast is available, and is GREAT. I even had them make me chilaquiles for lunch a few times). Lunch and dinner are also great, and we even returned for a few meals and drinks after we had moved up the beach the following week, because we missed La Luna so much.
We did exhaustive research on Tulum, including a trip to visit several hotels including Cabanas La Luna, and we're confident that we made the right decision. Cabanas La Luna is by far the best place in Tulum in terms of location, service, comfort and value. We stayed at a several other locations in Tulum, and La Luna blew them all out of the water. We will definitely return to La Luna, as frequently as possible.

Cabanas La Luna is a beautiful resort nestled among a gorgeous beach! The staff was wonderful especially Jacob, the manager/chef. They all made our stay truly magical. We stayed in Christopher Columbus which had a fabulous view of the beach. The food at the restaurant, Las Estrellas was amazing and everything was so fresh! The fish tacos and margaritas were the best! This is hands down the best resort in Tulum and we definitely will be back!

Although we were told that this place is in the jungle, why do we have to pay non-jungle prices?? Do not stay in the "garden" suite...not private, hot tub not filled (and you wouldn't want it to be to attract more mosquitos). Manager of this place was more interested in kite boarding, although the local guy really running it was very nice. Paying up front means not getting your money back if you don't like it...beware.

We ended up shelling out quite a bit more money to get away from the mosquitos at Mezzanine which was much nicer. Mosquito nets, punks, and spray made no difference. Only saving grace is beauty of beach that is right there...but Tulum is nice beach-wise pretty much everywhere.

ReneMexico, Manager at Cabanas La Luna, responded to this review, December 29, 2010
Dear Sea_Traveller5,

We appreciate your feedback, and I apologize that your stay was not as you hoped. We did our best to accommodate your needs, and refunded your reservation when it was decided that you needed to move on. Tulum is a jungle community situation on the beautiful beaches of the Mayan Riviera. Unfortunately we cannot control mosquitos, however we do our best to help out guests take all the necessary precautions.

As for our Manager, you did happen to catch him on his morning off. He does live on site and is available for our guests 24/7, and although he wasn't working when you saw him, he did take the time to help handle your situation.

Again, I apologize that your stay wasn't up to your standards and we are glad you found peace at one of our friends hotels, better suited for your needs.

A combination of earthiness and sophistication blended under the guidance of Jacob Willemsen and his amazing staff - Ruben and Cuamy are special!! The cabanas are set simply among bright white, soft sand and lush plantings. Our quarters, Captain Dale, made our family of 4 feel as though we were the Swiss Family Robinson!! The restaurant, La Estrella, consistently provided fresh food and delicately prepared exotic dishes. The staff consistently made us feel welcome and relaxed. They made our stay remarkable - we will return!!

Cabanas la Luna exceeded our expectations. It's on a lovely strip of beach, with vegetation softening the transition from cabana to sand, no seaweed and very few rocks, and the rooms set back just enough that there's a sense of privacy from people strolling the beach. The water is clear and soft. The staff is attentive but laid back. We fell asleep to the lapping of the waves. It was the perfect place to hole up for a week.

But the real highlight was the food. Everything was fresh and tasty and had the imprint of people who cared about what they were serving -- not to mention the undeniable touch of a master chef, the manager Jacob. The daytime menu included fish tacos with coconut sauce, napolito enchiladas that were utterly delicious, and a Mayan dip of roasted pumpkin seeds that is not to be missed. The new restaurant, Las Estrellas, offers a Moroccan menu with a stew of lobster and chickpeas and a delectable salad with roasted eggplant, dates and goat cheese. Jacob is extremely attentive to his guests' wishes and I have the feeling he would have prepared just about anything we might have asked for. He even was so generous as to give us some of his cooking tips.

The only downside was mosquitos, which are apparently a feature of Tulum. It takes a little bit of adjusting to sleep under a net but the sound of the waves more than made up for it and the bed was very comfortable.

Would we return? You bet.

We have just come back from 6 days in Tulum staying at La Luna and this was definately not long enough!!

We flew into Cancun and used Tucan Kin for our transfer. We decided to pay the extra and have a vehicle for the two of us and I really think this saved time and hassle. When we got to Tulum we rented a car for 3 days (from Eurocar at about £21 per day) and this really made the trip. It gave us our independence to go to loads of places before the tour coaches got to them and then we usually dashed back to the beach! It also meant we could drive into Tulum in the evenings and go for a walk along the main street (as the beach hotels are good but were very quiet).

The hotel is really special and has a lovely atmosphere with staff being very helpful, especially the manager jacob and the restaurant staff. We stayed in Robinson Crusoe and although this is the cheapest room, the position of this cabana is fantastic. You wake up and literally step onto the beach. It is small but this didn't bother us at all and we were very happy with the room.

We'd also recommend Estrellas, the hotel restaurant as the food was the best we had in the whole of out stay, and we went to a number of restaurants.

We have nothing bad to say about this hotel and for us it was perfect and we and very glad we did not stay in a massive hotel in Cancun.

SOOOO we stayed in marrakech for 4 nights and chris columbus for the last 2. The extra money is well worth it. MArrakech has the best view. You are sitting atop the beach staring straight out into a gorgeous sun rise every morning. You over look the stunning property of Cabanas La Luna and just think "oh thats right there is a God" cause this place is a piece of heaven.

The food is amazing, the service incredible (if you like coconut water ask the front desk and they will have a man shimmy up a tree on their property, cut a coconut down, cut it open and serve it to you...I mean WHAT!?!?>!). The pumpkin seed dip is amazing. So quiet and perfect.

The only problem we had was when we stayed in Chris Columbus our last 2 nights we were inundated with mosquitos. We had no problem at all while in Marrakech, but it was a problem in Chris Columbus. Other than that the rooms are very clean, and state of the art, or as much as you can be for living ON the beach.

I would stay here again and again and again.
