I stayed 6 nights at La Luna with my 8 and 12 years old boys. We had the best time and La Luna totally met my expectations. Free and Jacob were courteous and devoted to their customers. The staff on site was very pleasant and respectful. My 8 years old befriended with the children living on site and he made new friends despite the language barrier. This is not a place for you if you want a "westernized hotel type of service": Rent your cabana and deal with your time, food, activities under the wise and good advices from Free or Jacob. Do not pass a massage with magical Edna, particularly a Mayan massage. She is wonderful.
La Luna is a great, genuine, rustic place to stay at the opposite side of the spectrum from Cancun and company! Enjoy the beach, the sand, play with Foxy and Polar, purr with Luna the kitty cat. Enjoy the best restaurant in town named "Buenos Aires"... but be careful with the surge of mangoes allergy among westerners! I was close to reach an anaphylactic shock during my last night at La Luna at 4AM... My guardians angels were the night guard and Rodrigo who kept an eye on my boys while I was rushing by taxi to the "popular hospital" in Tulum to get my hydro-cortisone shot... I totally trusted them leaving my sons behind to save my life... Take your EpiPen if you have allergies. I will next time, but no more mangoes for me!
That's how much you can trust the staff at La Luna!!
Enjoy your stay at La Luna, I strongly recommend it. Rent a car, or if you are saving, use the zillion of taxis shuttling between town and the beach strip for 60 pesos / $6 one way. So long Free, Jacob and all the kindest members of Rodrigo's family, particularly the 3 beautiful children. With love, La Senora Babette.

This was my first visit to a Carribean beach, and I was very impressed. Tulum beach is picture postcard pretty, and having the Mayan ruins a short walk away was incredible. It is commendible that the resorts on this strech of coastline have tried to build accomodation that fits in with the landscape, avoiding the skyscraper hotels and motorways of Cancun.

The cabanas themselves were neat, tidy and tastefully decorated. They were quite rustic, which may not be to everyone's taste, but suited me fine. They are also a stones throw from the beach so you can wake up in the morning and watch the sun rise up over the ocean from the comfort of your porch.

Having said that there were a few things that bothered me at La Luna. There were very few facilities available - no bar or restuarant and the kitchen facilities were extremely limited. That meant that if we were relaxing on the beach and fancied a few tacos or a cocktail as the sun went down we had to pack all our stuff up and trek down the beach to another resort.

I also felt for what we got the prices were extremely high. The cabana itself was very small and there were very little extras included (e.g breakfast). We also felt being English we suffered with the exchange rates as everything was priced in dollars and when we asked to pay in pesos they gave us a very poor rates.

In conclusion it was a heavenly location, but in my opnion over priced. If you were thinking of staying here then I would definately recommend bringing US dollars with you as you'll find your money will go further.

We had our wedding at La Luna in November, 2008. Our family and friends stayed at La Luna for a week. It was an amazing time spend that none of us will ever forget. Tulum is a magical place and La Luna is one of its jems.
Besides the breath-taking location, La Luna offers an incredibly comfortable and luxurious (in the most non-pretentious sense) home. The staff is very attentive, yet relaxed. You always feel looked after, but not suffocated by attention. Jacob made us a magnificent feast for our big day with variety of mouth-watering dishes. The rooms were always clean, but we were never asked to be out of them by any particular time.
The place itself is beautiful and well taken care of. There is a clear sense of loving attention to every detail of every cabana. There is a kitchen that can be used by guests with everything you might need in it. This was really appreciated by all of us.
Guests with kids, young couples, singles and older guests alike found there place at La Luna. Everyone had their favorite part of the stay. Most of them still can't stop talking about their experience.
We are forever grateful to all of the La Luna staff and owners! This is already one of our happiest memories. Thank you!!!

We spent four delightful nights at Cabanas La Luna. It was just the atmosphere we were looking for---relaxed, unobtrusive yet attentive and small scale. You can literally roll out of bed and into the sea. We stayed in Robinson Crusoe and Christopher Columus, both of which had ocean views. It was the little touches here and there that made the cabanas distinctive. The care takers, Free, Jacob and Rodrigo were all responsive and friendly. If you can, stay here.

What a paradise location! We stayed at Cabanas La Luna in the beginning of January and had a superb time. The beach is just a step away from the cabana and is exactly what you picture when thinking of a tropical beach. This is definetly one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen.

Life is good when the only decision you have to make is deciding whether you stay a little longer in the hammock, go for a drink or take a dip in the turquoise sea. Of course you can also go on a small day trip. We went to the Tulum ruins, a snorkel tour and to one of the cenotes. Which were all really nice. Aparently the Maya ruins of Coba are worth a visit as well.

On sundays the Zebra bar is the place to go if you want to go for a drink and dance. Mojitos and salsa dancers make up for a good night out.

When you think of going to Tulum, we would definetly recommend Cabanas La Luna.

Cabanas La Luna was absolutely perfect. Our family of four plus our oldest sons girlfriend stayed in the Capt. Dale Cabana. This Cabana for our extended family was perfect. it was roomy and the bathroom was private. the large deck overlooking the beach and ocean was awesome. The sunrises were spectacular.

Tulum is very quiet so you create your own excitement or lack thereof. We spent our days lounging on the beach drinking cervesa, reading, marathon games of scrable, Hippy Horseshoes, night Boche Ball and of course building incredible sand creations. The beach in front of the Cabanas is the finest on the planet. Powder sugar sand and warm tourquoise water.

Buy grocereries and Beverages in Tulum Pueblo as there are no stores close to La Luna. The cabanas have coolers and daily ice if you want it. Use the shared kitchen for Breakfast, coffee and snacks. it is very handy and a great place to meet your neighbors.

The Cabana Keepers Jacob, Free and Leus were fantastic. They helped when needed and were always willing to play a fun game of Hippy Horseshoes. They do have to work on their game a bit.

Everything was perfect with our stay. we highly recommend Cabanas La Luna for a relaxing vacation in paradise.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Cabanas la Luna for a week in December of 2008. Not being "resort people," we are always on the lookout for something a little different and off the beaten track and Cabanas la luna certainly fit the bill. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, as nice as I've seen anywhere. The cabanas are quaint and charming albeit quite small (we had the Robinson and the Columbus). One can easily spend a week here doing little more than lazing on the beach and reading in the hammocks. We ventured out each day on different excursions--Tulum, Chichen Itza and Coba ruins as well as swimming in cenotes, visiting Valledoid, Achten Chen, etc. We rented a car which made these trips far easier, otherwise a cab is needed or buses. We also enjoyed trying out a different restaurant each evening, either along the beach or in Tulum, about a 10 minute or less drive away. We also felt that this was a great way to get a better taste of Mexico as a culture as opposed to sitting in a resort. About the only thing that surprised us was that this area seemed to be consistently quite windy; however, on hot days, it was often a pleasant respite and only occasionally bothersome. Be forewarned that the accomodations are quite rustic but that is part of their charm, uniqueness and appeal.
