“Gorgeous. And awful. ”

Probably the best atmosphere in Tulum....
Paired with the worst service, completely disappointing food, and drinks so dependent upon Mezcal (their schtick) that you'll think you've been sucking on kindling.

We had to cancel one of our items when it didn't arrive 35 minutes after the rest of the food was finished.

And the icing on this utterly obnoxious cake was that they add an automatic 20% to the already outrageously high bill. Prices, and tip are at least 40% higher than the rest of Tulum.

Not worth the atmosphere, unfortunately, because the only taste left in your mouth will be disappointment.

“Nice food but way too expensive!”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

When the waiter introduced us the special mezcal-cocktails, we couldn't believe how expensive it was! They charged 180 pesos for a cocktail, which is ridiculous! The general price in Tulum for a cocktail was around 80 pesos. We didn't want to pay that much for a cocktail that didn't even looked that big .. so we ordered something else.
The food was very nice, but way too small to be satisfied.
The waiter came to our table every 15 minutes and asked if we needed something else to eat. Maybe he thought he was being friendly, at first he was, but after 2 - 3 times it was annoying. Especially because we told him we were ok (we still had a whole beer to finish) and if he suggested to eat something else, then they must know the plates aren't big enough ..
At the end, when we asked for the bill, the service was (off course) included. In Mexico it's normal to pay a 10 - 15 % tip but in most places, you can choose what to give. Here, they charged us a 20% tip.
It was a cosy restaurant, the food was nice, but if I'd knew it was that expensive I would have passed it. Especially because you don't support the local people as it wasn't owned by Mexicans.

“Best tacos and drinks.”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

Seriously, the shrimp tacos are amazing. This mezcal bar is a very fun place to get drinks and relax, and the food is quite good as well.

“Best thing I ever ate!”
Reviewed April 3, 2014 via mobile

Tostadas de pollo. I have dreamt about them since. Simple, delicious food.

Great atmosphere too! It definitely felt like the place to be. So happy we stumbled upon this place!

Until next time, tostadas... see you in my dreams.

“Beware!”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

We were so happy when we sat down at Gitano as they set us up with a fantastic table and were very welcoming. the place is really lovely and has a great vibe. Most of our group ordered from the menu however a few ordered shots of tequlia and Mezcal which is where things went very wrong. They were charging $26/ shot of Don Julio (not the good one) which normally goes for about $10 per and the mezcal was $33/shot. None of this was mentioned and so we were in for a very soboring surprise upon receipt of our bill. We chatted with others that also had problems with their bill.
