We stayed at La Selva Mariposa for three days last Spring. We found this wonderful B&B through Trip Advisor and couldn't have been more pleased. From the beautiful surroundings, to the romantic dinner in the tree tops, to the delicious breakfasts, our stay couldn't have been better. Mari and Lou were ideal hosts, and provided great information to enhance every aspect of our trip.

We will be back!

My husband and I went off on a very last minute 6 night trip to the Mexican Carribean coast. After a bit of confusion on our part due to leaving so suddenly and an unexpected 4 hour layover, we arrived in Tulum near midnight. We didn't bring a phone number with us to alert Lou and Mari that we were arriving so late. We felt terrible. Lou was waiting for us with a light outside just when we arrived. We stayed 3 nights and wished we stayed longer.
Lou and Mari were so gracious with us and shared so many great tips and advice to us newbies to Mexico. Like how we should we vigilant at the gas station to not get ripped off by the attendants and the best way to see both the ruins at Ek Balam and Coba in the same day. We would definately go back but this time we would take a day to just enjoy the beautiful surroundings and take a dip in the pool and relax. If you are going to Tulum to see ruins I truly recommend staying here especially if you have a car. The ruins of Ek Balam, Tulum, and Coba are with driving distance and a short drive to the fantastic beaches fo Tulum. We took Mari's adice and went to enjoy Cesiak in the Biosphere Reserve, which had great food with stunning view of the beach on one side and the jungle on the other. It felt like a second honeymoon. The breakfast was awesome with fresh fruit and yogurt before the main meal. Definately worth the drive from Cancun. We stayed in Tulum for 3 nights and moved north to La Playa del Carmen and then downtown Cancun but La Selva Mariposa was in our thoughts the whole time.

We stayed at La Selva Mariposa for a few days of our honeymoon in Dec. 2008. Mo and Lou, the expat hosts, are very friendly and have created a wonderful property. The breakfasts are very good and substantial, and the furnishings are beautiful. (We stayed in suite 1, and my husband especially loved our outdoor shower.) The hotel is 10-15 minutes down the road from the Coba ruins and 20 kilometers from the beaches of Tulum. Not for those who want to be right on the beach, but definitely pretty and convenient to Tulum.

I can't say enough about La Selva Mariposa. Everything about this place is incredible - the rooms with private pools outside the doors, the large healthy breakfasts served whenever you want them served, the jungle paths with unique handmade furniture and folk art spread throughout, comfortable beds with quality linens, the pyramid-shaped steam room built just for guests, and the hosts who went out of their way to make you feel comfortable AND provide you with all the information and advice about the area as you could possibly need. And after all that, the prices are VERY competitive as well; in fact, for those who don't mind driving a little ways out of town (on a very good paved road all the way), it's a real deal. We will definitely tell all our friends, and we'll definitely go back.

Mo and Lou have made a wonderful paradize in the jungle! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this oasis. The breakfasts were gourmet and served at whatever time best suited us. They offer a wealth of valuable information to help you with any travel destinations you are interested in. The rooms are romantic and decorated with taste and the beds are very comfortable.
You really can't go wrong if you want a comfotable jungle adventure.

My husband and I just returned from a one-week stay at La Selva Mariposa, with our 21 and 25-year-old children, and we had a truly wonderful and magical time. It was our first time to Mexico, having always favored Hawaii, but it turned out far better than we would have imagined. We chose to stay away from the mega all-inclusive resorts and picked the B&B as our home base. It is in a very small town, Macario Gomez, which is a 15-minute drive from Tulum. Although the drive may be less attractive to some, we enjoyed the local surroundings and quiet. Our hosts Mari and Lou are the greatest, seeing to our every need from sightseeing and dinner suggestions, plenty of clean drinking water and small presents on Christmas. We enjoyed being taken care of by Americans who knew what we would like. The B&B is on a private lot with beautiful landscape, walking trails, common breakfast area, sauna and rooftop tanning. We stayed in a suite in a separate building complete with small private pool, an open shower, and Mayan decorations. The breakfasts are truly gourmet and tied us over until dinner. We had our own patio and hammock and to all our delight, there was Internet access by WiFi. We were 0.5-2 hour drive to three Mayan ruins (Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum), several beaches, small tourist towns, and cenotes, which are underground sinkholes, open for swimming. The local food was good to average, but then we are foodies from Chicago. Most places do NOT take credit cards, but ATMs are readily available. We would go back to La Selva Mariposa in a heartbeat; when we left, much rested and tanned, we felt like we were leaving good friends.

We spent 5 nights at La Selva for our first jungle holiday. It was fantastic! Besides the beauty of the place and the impeccable accommodations, it was the people that made it. Moe and Lou are terrific hosts. We did everything that Moe recommended in terms of visiting ruins and cenotes and we were never disappointed. A highlight was meeting the Mayans at the various sites we went to. Ek Balaan was our favourite. The mile walk to the nearby cenote with our 12-year-old self-appointed guide turned out to be extra special. Without Moe and Lou's guidance, we wouldn't have attempted these journeys since we were often by ourselves. They gave us the confidence and information to do it on our own. We also enjoyed their personal hospitality and Moe's book about their experiences of setting up in Mexico. We bought a copy to share with our friends.

We found the beach in Tulum marvellously uncrowded, easy to park and fun. The only downside is having to drive everywhere. We'll definitely come back.
