There is a not a detail that Moe and Lou have not thought about in creating the best possible experience for their guests at this jungle B&B.

The grounds, waterfalls and rooms are gorgeous and well tended.

But it's the little thoughtful touches that made the visit truly special. From stocking the fridge with beer, juice and reusable water bottles to having beach mats and bags at the ready, there's not a detail that our hosts failed to anticipate to make our stay easier and more enjoyable. Their care for the guests and attention to detail extend to breakfast (some of the best meals we've ever had at a B&B) as well as the newly constructed rooftop hot tub.

They're also incredibly knowledgable about the area and have all sorts of tips -- as well as a DIY guidebook -- for visitors who want to explore on their own.

Attention to detail: we love doing this for our guests, and as travelers ourselves, we are always looking for ideas on how to make LSM even better. Thanks so much for your comments. Mari

Our hosts Lou and Moe have created a slice of paradise in the jungle just WNW of Tulum and they are very generous with how they share it with their guests. They have thought of most every detail and simply taken care of everything. 5 stars from our perspective. Gracias for the warm reception and wonderful hospitality.

When you first walk thru the gate your breath is taken away by the amazing oasis in the jungle Moe and Lou have created. Walking the grounds you are surprised at every turn by the landscaping that their staff has created. Fountains, waterfalls and soaking pools adjoin the rooms. Using local materials and borrowing from local architecture Lou has created a magical retreat. Enjoy a soak in the pool after visit to the local ruins, take a sauna to relax from your adventure at one of the many local cenotes. Spend hours walking the wonderful white sand beach or swim in the warm waters at the Tulum shore. Enjoy meals at many of the on the beach
dining clubs or perhaps one of the local Macario Gomez restaurants that are walking distance away. Then return for a star filled soaking in the roof top hot tub. The rooms are incrediable in design as the blend in with the jungle. The Julio and his staff are very attentive and readily available. You will start your day with a wonderful breakfast perpared by Moe and Lou as you sit and visit with the other guests. Moe has provided many guides for local adventures, she will be happy to expand upon the guide books to help you plan your adventures. I look forward to my return.

Room Tip: The rooms are all special . Room 4 is the largest if you need space.

Thanks for the awesome review. You mentioned so many important things that travelers to this off-the-beaten-path B&B will find helpful. Glad you mentioned the new jacuzzi, it is a favorite of all our guests at LSM this holiday season as are the diverse restaurant choices now available in Macario Gomez. We hope you will return and of course, there will be something new. The rain has ended and the sun is out. We are all celebrating.

I really don't know where to start. This is a fantastic find. The little B&B in the jungle is away from the crowds but close in to just about everything you will want to see or do. Very private with your own parking and entry gate. Breakfast is first rate as are the morning slide shows. The Coba ruins, more cenotes to swim or dive than can be fit into a reasonable vacation. The powder sand beaches at Tulum and Lou and Mari 's recommendations make it easy for the novice to this area. We had a great time and can not recommend the LSM enough. You can make do at a hotel, or you can thrive and revive here.

Nothing will prepare you for the beauty of LSM. I read all the blogs and studied all the photos but the reality of this retreat is just unbelievable! Lou picked us up at the airport and drove us to LSM (what a treat-feeling like royalty at this point!). Walking through the gate into the grounds just took my breath away, and our room #3 was even better than expected. The details, the love they have put into LSM are evident everywhere. The outdoor shower, the cenote pool, the beach bag ready to go with towels, nothing has been overlooked. The breakfasts were fabulous and it was so nice to meet the other guests as we sat around the table (that Lou made), coming from France, Norway, Canada and The Dominican Republic. The books Moe has compiled will give you all the information you need to explore all the area has to offer and the side shows during breakfast might help you make your decision. Living in Texas it is easy for us to visit so we didn't do all top 10 things to do but we did get to the beach and would highly recommend Ziggys (thanks Moe!), The food was delicious and Neri was a wonderful waiter. Coba was an easy drive (rent the car from Lou and Moe - so convenient) and climbing the pyramid was worth the effort. We rented bikes and hired a guide, which was well worth the money. The lagoon afterwards was a great way to cool down and we saw lots of colorful fish and even a barracuda! Explore Tulum and wander down the side streets, we found a newly opened coffee shop/bakery and stocked up on all kinds of irresistible desserts! Shop close by LSM for the best prices and support the locals (information is in one of Moe's books).
We moved to room #4 for the last 2 nights of our 5 night stay and Wow! it just kept getting better. The room has its own rooftop retreat, tif you can tear yourself away from the pool and hammock! We didn't get time for the steam room or the jacuzzi or the bikes but that just means we will have to go back!! If you are reading this, you are one step closer to paradise. Lou and Moe thank you, thank you, thank you. I can't wait to settle down and read your book.

Room Tip: If it's available #4 is wonderful but we were quite happy in #3.

OMB back at you. What a fabulous review of your stay with us. You have said it all and we think we will be seeing you again. Glad you mentioned the new seafood restaurant in Macario Gomez, Los Piratas. It is excellent and so close by. Thanks again for your comments.

Start the day with one of Lou and Moe’s delectable breakfasts, then venture out to wander through nearby Mayan ruins, tour the museums and churches of colonial Valladolid, laze in the clear waters of a subterranean cenote, or bob in the warm waves that wash the white sands of the world’s most beautiful beach. Return to La Selva Mariposa for a steam bath, a dip in one of Lou’s hand-crafted pools, a walk through the lush grounds, or a soak in the rooftop Jacuzzi, watching morpho blue butterflies flit among the trees. Enjoy a freshly-prepared taco at a outdoor restaurant in the local pueblo, and pass the night to the sound of cascades and cicadas in a room that reminds you why you came to Mexico. It doesn’t get better than this.

Room Tip: Room #3 features a delightful outdoor shower and a comfortable kingsize bed

La Selva Mariposa was built from the ground up with care and thoughtfulness, and Moe and Lou offer so much local advice and knowledge of the surrounding areas. It's a very special place. Unlike some of the hotels right on the beach, a car is definitely recommended while staying here, but if you're looking to explore and do more day trips anyway, this is the place to be.

Thank so much for writing such a glowing review for us. We enjoyed meeting you and are glad that you mentioned the need for a car. Without one, you will feel a bit stuck unless you are very patient waiting for Mx. public transportation to take you from a to b. It is possible to use the 2nd class bus, colectivos and taxis if you don't mind waiting and negotiating you fare. It will be an adventure, but in order to make the most of your vacation, a car is a welcome pleasure.
