“Quiet location, excellent value”

My friend and I stayed here for a couple of nights. The hotel rooms were generously proportioned and very clean. There was some nice attention to detail including a birthday cake for my birthday! I felt it was very good value for money and the boudtha area was a good one to stay in.

I stayed at Shambala as part of a yoga retreat. We arrived at night and when I woke early the next morning to the sounds of the ocean I couldnt believe the beauty of the place. Walking barefoot on the long, quiet stretch of beach and curling up with a good book on the comfortable beach chairs was amazing. The staff were always friendly, smiling and helpful and the food was incredible. Each meal was prepared and presented with great care and attention to every detail and individual dietary requests. You couldnt ask for a more beautiful yoga room right on the beach.
A few thoughts and suggestions: bring a flashlight or headlamp if you want to read at night (as others have mentioned the light in the room is not sufficient for reading), bring bug spray, don't bring a hair dryer (there's no electricity in the room for it). If you're the type that enjoys just putting your hair up, living barefoot and taking in the beauty of your surrounding you'll love this spot.
And as other reviewers have mentioned don't miss having a massage with Marco early on in your stay. You'll be glad you did and will want to book a second one!
I'm looking forward to returning next year!

I was overall quite pleased with Shambala despite its 'quirks' and drawbacks as stated by other reviewers . It has a certain radiant energy to it, and as long as you expect it to be very basic and bare bones accomodations, you will likely be satisfied.

The pros:
- beautiful beach & comfy beach lounges
- amazingly beautiful yoga room
- open and airy hotel layout and rooms....uncluttered compared to other places in Tulum...
- room/bedding was clean & minimally tidied each day (expect sand all over. the beach is right out your door)
- surprisingly good wifi

***MARCO the masseuse/ healer! ***Regardless of where you stay in Tulum YOU MUST go see him. He helped me heal deeply in the two sessions I had with him and i would seriously fly back to Tulum JUST TO SEE MARCO! There are no words to describe the intensity and energy of his sessions. Simply mindblowing and unparalleled.

Cons: (i took a star off for each of these)
- rates are a little high for what you receive (tiny rooms, no electricity in rooms, uncomfortable beds/pillows)

- The owner's energy. He seems to be all smiles but really is not... The attitude i received when asking for very basic things was quite off-putting as was his treatment of his staff.

Example: They provide tea lights for night time which burn out in about an hour. ( If you want to read in bed at night bring a flashlight) They're not enough light to read from and they dont give you more each day.... so when they burn out you have to go ask for more. Each time I knocked on his door Roberto made me feel like I was being a diva for wanting to read in bed and was severely inconveniencing him... same as when i had problems connecting to their wifi.

.... this didnt bother me quite as much as how condescending he was towards his help. Apparently he didnt realize that I am fluent in spanish when he decided to talk down to his employees in a truly appalling fashion within earshot of the dining table... and again to his masseuse right outside my room.

To clarify, this was not him being a boss and telling them what to do... it was him treating them like crap.

The energy in the yoga room is wonderful and magical, as is the energy of all of Tulum... but to hear/see this from the owner of the hotel and know that i was supporting it by paying for it really did not make me feel good.

Overall, its a nice Tulum spot... just dont be expecting luxe accommodations and maybe bring a flashlight and your own pillow.

We just had a wonderful yoga retreat at this hotel in March.Travelling all over the world, once in while one ends up finding a gem of a place. This little hotel is understated sweet and simply magic!
Roberto and his staff where friendly, delightful and went out of their way to make us feel nurtured and taken care of.
The accommodation was unpretentious and comfortable. And the food was incredibly delicious and healthy.
I loved walking bare foot in the white sand with the ocean just metres away and hearing the waves lull you to sleep.
This isn't your regular five star resort but if you're in to simple and charming you will love Shambala Petit Hotel!
Till we meet again :)

I am so grateful for one of the most relaxing trips I have ever had and I travel around the globe! The Shambala Petit Hotel is a secret paradise on earth. The serenity and calm in this little place is beyond description. I was on an above and beyond yoga retreat with a very very diverse group at the beginning of February. The staff and management did their best to cater to everyones needs. This is a very eco friendly place and the lodgings may seem bare bones to some at first, but when you remember why you chose the place and its purpose it becomes a "natural Ritz Carlton" for sure! The food was completely fresh, healthy and prepared almost 14 different ways for our group to meet everyone's dietary needs, no 5 star hotel does this for this many at every meal!
It is truly a special place to enjoy nature in it's most unspoiled form, nuture yourself and relax. I and many friends have already signed up for next February and have begun our countdown to Tulum Shambala 2014- I am not a "drinker" but if you like wine and/or, maybe plan that out in advance with Roberto, the manager who will gladly go get it for you or something quite close to your request. As far as other comments in this advisor thing- you literally only sleep and shower in your room, so if you aren't accustomed to simplicity and be ecologically friendly--no worries you are only in your room to sleep! I loved the whole experience! Thank You!

This hotel and the wonderful people (Roberto and his team) have made a paradise for those that want a safe haven and spectacular place to practice yoga. Everything was just perfect and I would go back in a heartbeat. It's a special place to be close to nature and open your heart to a world of possibilies. I will never forget the experience.
Also I must comment on any feedback that has been provided in earlier reviews has been acted on. They take their guests comfort very seriously. The food was outstanding. I watched the staff clean the rooms as I waited for my transportation. They literally spend a great deal of time making sure it is ready for the next guest.
If you love dogs Goa and Enzo are beloved pets on site.
Marco the massage therapist is truly a special person and every was raving about his massages. he helped many people and reminded me that there is always good you just have to open your eyes to it. There is a candle burning.
Don't go if you are looking for a bracelet and all you can drink and eat. Do go if you want to step out on an amazing beach, feel safe, breath in the ocean air and be surrounded with some of the kindest people I have ever met.

Just ended a week-long yoga retreat and I loved it! I had been to Tulum three times before, but not for many years. The food, hospitality and warmth of the staff (Roberto is fantastic), location, quiet - just wonderful.

For those people who want A/C (the fan and ocean breezes were fine) and all of the other resort-type amenities - go to Cancun or Playa del Carmen!!

Room Tip: Stay closer to the ocean for the breezes.
