Traveling with Mexicans in the Playa del Carmen area is the way to go when looking for authentic experiences. We took off exploring and found the beach hotel strip of Boca Paila. El Bistro called to us so we parked and found ourselves in the middle of one of the longest white sand beaches we have been too with hammocks and tables and outdoor beds in front of small caps of the Caribbean. Happy hour seems to be any hour and our server was gracious with 2 for 1 "Micheladas" (your beer with a unique mix of worcestershire, lime and other ingredients, wine and blended Margaritas making for a relaxing afternoon on silk smooth white sand. Walking the beach is easy and gorgeous with the waves lapping. We returned to a delicious meal of "Peruvian" (with grouper fish) and Mexican (with shrimp, octopus and squid) limed ceviches and chips; delicious. The fish tacos were terrific and the mixed grilled seafood for 2 with shrimp, octopus, fish, calamari outstanding with either chips or tortillas. All for all a memorable day and we can't wait to return and next time spend the night as the hotel gets great recommendations by others.

Room Tip: We stayed on the beach for the day but all the rooms are on beach directed toward the water. The foo...

Our experience at Cabanas Tulum was way beyond our expectations. From the moment we walked up Pati was extremely kind and helpful and continued to be throughout the week. The room was top notch with an beautiful ocean view. Emilio and Rosa provided the best service you could ask for at El Bistro the entire week. I'd highly recommend Cabanas Tulum to anyone even vaguely thinking about visiting Mexico. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for a deluxe or superior room.

We have been to Tulum several times and are always drawn back to Cabanas Tulum. It has been around since 1972 and has modernized every aspect of the hotel. We have stayed in the deluxe ocean-view which are nicely updated and near the adults only pool but love the Superior ocean=front the best. The furnishings are minimalistic, the views are anything but. Step out onto your balcony or patio just 50 feet from the waves and swing in your hammock. Breakfast is complimentary and it is so awesome. Try the Energetico juice drink and the Moltulenos, you won't be disappointed. Every afternoon is happy hour 2 for 1, all drinks. The beach is the best we have found. The water actually bubbles onmost days due to the cenotes that open into the shallow water just off shore. Great place to snorkel, always tons of fish that feed from the mineral rich cenote. Wonderful, romantic, relaxing experience.

Room Tip: The upper level of the superior rooms have awesome views of the beach and stars at night

We loved it! The location is perfect right on the beautiful beach of Tulum. The room is lovely (especially the delux rooms on the second floor, not the superior!), staff are freindly and helpfull, breakfast is amazing, eat it as a lunch and don't waste any more time on food untill the sunset.
Go there, you will love it.

We stayed for 2 days and 2 nights at this hotel and it was lovely from start to finish. The rooms, location, amenities, service, all work perfectly together to help you unwind completely. The constant sound of the sea in the background is sooooo soothing, makes you never want to leave. The staff is wonderful, helpful and friendly. We had a great time and will definitely come back!

We spent 4 days at Cabanas Tulum during our Yucatan Tour in Aug. 2012. We travelled as a 10 persons group with my parents, my sister family and my own family. We had great sun bath at the beach, good food (I recommend ceviche and wraps), excellent drinks, lots of sweets (chocolate bananas, ...).

The whole team was great, they organized special party fo my parents 50th wedding birthday with drinks and mariachis Special thanks to Mayumi, Paty and Sandy that made their best to arrange our stay at Tulum... as well as th the Ziggy Beach team for their special arrangements for our big familly

My boyfriend and I spent five nights in a Superior Deluxe Beach front room. When we arrived in the early evening, we were greeted with a glass of juice at check in and were shortly in our beautiful ocean front room.

The room itself was very spacious and comfortable. We were on the ground floor, with our roof deck on top (which we enjoyed as a nice getaway from anyone on the beach). The only thing that we did feel was lacking was some type of lock on the sliding screen door. I know a screen door is easily broken, but when we would walk down to the water, we would leave our screen door shut for the breeze, and felt a bit uncomfortable that it was technically unlocked. This was such a minor thing, and nothing bad happened leaving it like that, but it was just one thing we noted. There looked to be superior rooms on the second floor, but I'm not really sure as I didn't ask about it. If I return, I might look into having a second floor room.
It's also worth noting that the feel of the room is very 'open'. The shower is all glass, and the wall facing the courtyard is also made of frosted glass that opens up to clear glass at the top. I never found this to be a problem for me, but if you're very private and don't want a stray eye to catch you in the shower or dressing by the sink this may be an issue fo you. I found the overall minimal decor and style to be quite beautiful myself.

They have airconditioner available at night, but I think we only turned it on once while we were there. We just slept with our screen door open to the sound of the ocean, and constant cool breeze. It was lovely!

We swam a few times in the pools, and found them to be quite nice- especially at night when they were lit up- floating and looking at the Tulum stars.

The breakfast included at El Bistro was really a nice deal, as well. You basically choose anything off the menu. We also had one lunch and dinner there as well. I'm mostly vegan due to food allergies, and they did a great job of working around my needs! My boyfriend enjoyed the non-vegan food, and thought the burger was amazing. The service can be a bit slow (plan on an hour for breakfast), but it's Tulum so no need to rush anyway. Everyone working there was always pleasant, and the 2x1 happy hour mango daiquiri's were delish!

Mayumi at the front desk was so helpful throughout our stay. She set up scuba dives for us with a good local shop, and we enjoyed the cenotes with a great guide. She also recommended some really good restaurants.

All-in-all, our stay at Cabanas Tulum was wonderful, relaxing, beautiful, and everything we hoped it would be and more.
