I just got back from spending 4 nights here. What a beautiful place - as other reviewers have noted the sea breeze keeps the mosquitoes away. The service was good and Griselda was our housekeeper and kept the sand out of our room (quite the feat!). My niece who is not quite two was with us and the ocean conditions were perfect for her - small waves, warm water, not too deep. She and I had a blast splashing in the waves. The rooms are quite basic, nothing fancy about this place, but that actually adds to it's charm. No TV in the rooms, no telephones, just nature and fans, thank God for the fans. If I needed a technology fix, they do offer WiFi in the restaurant and lobby. Oh and the best hawaiian pizza I have ever tasted! The lobster pizza was not bad either.

Griselda was an excellent cleaning lady. She cleaned our beach bungalows so well. She would make designs from our clean towels and place flowers and stickers to make them come to life. She cleaned all of my friends beach bungalows as well. We all loved her and on our last day we took pictures and said thank you for making our trip so memorable!

No doubt: this is a perfect place (setting, beach, service) but price-performance ratio is not ok (and especially: if you want to use air-con, you have to pay 30 US Dollars per day !!! Yes: this is not to buy the air-con, this is just to use it. And if there are 30 plus degrees, the fan is not sufficient. with this, forget this place in the hot season !!!)

Guido from Germany, 25.5.2013

Room Tip: Front beach bungalow are much better than the back row ones, though much more expensive. Forget all...

I do have to agree with some of the other comments made by the previous review.
We have just returned from a stay in a beachfront cabana (number 1) for 11 nights.
Firstly this property is in a great locaton, fantastic beach and walkable to the ruins.

We paid nearly £100 a night for the room with breakfast, and yes that got very boring with only three very limited choices. It would have been so much better to have a buffet style with more choice. The rooms are quite basic, but sweet and rustic.

Each room is allocated two beach beds with mats, but these beds are old and difficult to move. Also when eating or having a drink in the main restaurant the seats need some cushions, as very uncomfortable.

All the staff working there were very helpful and friendly. We noticed the two Italian owners, it would have been nice if they had introduced themselves, and made us feel welcome. They just seem to walk around the place giving orders. We spent over $1800 during our stay, plus booked a tour. We would have eaten in the Italian restaurant more often than the once, but it lacked any atmosphere which is a shame as it has so much potential.

Lovely towels every day which were a work of art from Griselda.
Great hotel, but needs a few extra touches.

Room Tip: Cabana 1 was a good choice

We stayed here in January of 2013 for a couple of nights. The location is breathtaking, the beach is heavenly and the Maya ruins nearby are awe-inspiring. The staff was very friendly, unlike the Italian manager who is rude and anything but customer-friendly. We've seen him being quite short with the staff, and he was certainly not even very considerate towards the customers.
Under the guise of "eco"-friendly, you are overcharged for stuffy, small cabanas with uncomfortable beds. The shabby rooms are certainly not worth the price nor do they fit the definition of eco. I did not expect/wish for luxury, but you immediately get a sense of having been cheated despite the location.
I wish they did not serve breakfast, because it was a slap in the face. You get a choice of three types of breakfasts: Mexican, American and continental and you get a real feel of just how stingy the owners/manager are. Breakfast was the same every day. In a country where fruit is in such abundance, I expected at least lots of fresh fruit in the morning, but we each got three-four slices of fruit and a small glass of orange juice. I had hoped that at least the coffee will be good given the Italian manager, but if you wanted anything except filter coffee, you were charged extra. That is absolutely unacceptable for a place that charges over 100 dollars per night. After the first morning, I refused to have breakfast and ended up eating in town every morning.
Some hotels feel they don't have to try because they have an enviable location. I'm sure this place will always get customers because of the proximity to the Maya ruins and the heavenly beach, but that's where the charm stops. They get quite defensive when they get bad reviews and they keep pointing out that they were featured in Lonely Planet and the Today show, but I certainly don't get the five star reviews for this place.
There are plenty of better options in Tulum.

We are very sorry that this guest felt uncomfortable during her stay.

Our guests are welcome to add additional dishes on their breakfast, all prices are specified on our menu.
3 types of breakfast we are offering to our guests are completely complimentary.
We apologize about the Manager, guest's comment is right that's why he's not working at La Vita é Bella since February.

The hotel is not overpriced, room rates fit totally the Tulum market and the place worth it.

My 15 year old daughter and I stayed 13 nights at La Vita e Bella end of April and 1st week of May. It was amazing! The staff was wonderful, the front desk was so friendly and helpful!
Our beach front cabana was magical and kept spotlessly clean by Griselda who designed incredible towel sculptures! The restaurant served delicious food including a complimentary
breakfast. The beach is out of dream, perfect with the most lovely breeze.
Very relaxing, would love to visit again!

I feel truly sorry for those who book this place in advance as we did. Overall, a greedy vibe. The staff is nice, Carmen very helpful, but it feels like management is very distrustful of them and everyone is looking over their shoulder. They charged me 90 pesos (9.00 usd) for extra fruit at breakfast and the waiter was instructed to charge me for hot water for my own tea. We overheard a woman craving the remote control for her air conditioner at 11:00 pm, she was told it would cost an extra 30 dollars. She was furious. This place is totally falling apart, all around sadly kept up. Go somewhere else, this place sucks.

Cancun11, Public Relations Manager at La Vita e Bella, responded to this review, May 2, 2013
We apologize that this guest felt uncomfortable during her stay.

We offer three complimentary breakfast menus, and our guests are welcome to add from our standard restaurant menu if they so please with the understanding that they are responsable for the additional charge.

And as one of our recent improvements at La Vita e Bella we have put air conditioning in a few of our beach front bungalows for additional comfort. Our policy regarding their use is clearly posted at the front desk and our guests are informed upon check-in that we only charge for the days they choose to use it. In an effort to be clear about this our front desk reminds our guests of this charge on the days they choose to use it. It seems this guest overheard our manager while he was helping a guest with thier air conditioning one night.

Our team at La Vita e Bella works hard to make our guests stay a pleasant and comfortable one.
