The reviews before mine "say it all" - I will again say that the pictures on the website are nice, but this condo hotel/resort village is so much more lovely than can be shown.
Maknuk is unique because besides providing a luxurious condo and beautifully lush around-the-pool setting - it's location is still within a natural jungle setting - but yet walking distance to shopping. I loved the quiet "airspace" - no nearby airport.
The penthouse is very special because one can sit in the morning sun and at the end of the day, watch the sun set into the treeline horizon.
And! besides that, a rooftop splash pool, and the vantage point of looking down at the spectacular grounds beneath - especially at night, showcasing the setting with colored lighting in the pool water and soft lighting on the buildings.
It was always a "tough" decision about if we should go to the secluded beach with miles of soft-sand walking or to stay poolside at Maknuk. I loved the pool - clean and refreshing - with enough room to swim a few laps. The shuttle is GREAT because one doesn't need to rent a car.

Room Tip: Unit "B" penthouse -best for full views. Otherwise Building "A" because further...

Wow pretty much sums up our reaction when we walked into the courtyard of Mak Nuk for the first time. The pictures on the website looked great, but it's a whole lot different when you see it with your own eyes. The place is gorgeous.Several of the other reviews give a very good description of the rooms and they are spot on. The rooms are exactly as described. I will concentrate on other aspects of our stay at Mak Nuk. Actually, I am a little apprehensive about leaving a positive review ... for a purely selfish reason. At this point in time Mak Nuk is a hidden gem, but it won't be for long. My biggest fear is that when we want to go back, and we will, they will be fully booked and we won't be able to get a room. Oh well, guess we'll have to take our chances !

We have known Mike and Chrissy since we first became members of Exotic Travel while on vacation at HBR. We actually purchased our membership through Crissy. We had lost touch with them a few years ago. We had heard that they moved on to other things. Now we know what the other things were ! During our stay I heard from one of the owners that this development had been a dream of Mike's for a long time. Having worked as a project manager for a real estate developer, I can honestly say that Mike is not a dreamer ... he is a visionary. Kudos to Mike and Chrissy !

We traveled with another couple and booked a two bedroom swim up suite. Each bedroom had it's own patio area and alcove with seating in the "river". It worked out great. We originally booked in Oct. 2013. We stayed from 1/22/14 to 1/29/14. We had booked "all inclusive" but because of licensing issues that was not yet in place when we traveled. Mike had stocked the room with liquor, coffee and breakfast items from a list that we had emailed to him. Since the kitchen had a refrigerator with an ice maker we were good to go upon arrival.
No, we are not alcoholics ... we just like to drink ! The next morning the van dropped us off at a huge supermarket on it's way to the beach and picked us up on it's way back. We bought enough groceries, mostly snack items, to last us the rest of the week. The supermarket was also a good place to exchange dollars for pesos in the ATM machines. Mike and Chrissy provided ala carte dinners several nights and the rest of the time we ate dinner at the local restaurants. The food at both Mak Nuk and at the local restaurants was excellent.

The couple we were traveling with had never been to Mexico. They were very apprehensive about walking the streets at night. Because we had been to HBR many times and had wandered the streets of Playa Del Carmen, we were not concerned. Wandering the streets of Tulum is perfectly safe. I would suggest that you pack a small flashlight, which we did, because the side streets get very dark. It is only a couple of blocks to the closest restaurants, cantinas, and gift shops.

The owners that were present, the other guests that were there, and Mike and Chrissy, treated us like long lost relatives. I cannot say enough about the hospitality. All in all it was the best vacation we have had in a long time. Leaving the -30 degree weather in Wisconsin and arriving in 80 + degree weather in Tulum was pure pleasure. Leaving 80 + degree weather and arriving in - 60 degree weather ... not so much !

Thanks Mike and Chrissy for a fantastic vacation ! WE WILL BE BACK !

After a quick peek at Mak Nuk the first word that comes to mind is in bold, above- amazing. We live in the area for half the year and have seen a lot of condo developments. The attention to detail in the construction at Mak Nuk is far above average. The variety of accommodations is surprising. We were also impressed by a friendly, Hacienda mood created by the architect. Quite exciting visually and cozy at the same time.

Using Chechen, a beautiful, natural, renewable, decay resistant hardwood will pay off in durability in the future, We really like the tall, friendly palapa where neighbors and guests will gather to socialize and get some cool shade in the hotter months.

The pool is the crowning glory of this development. The striking colors of the state of the art LED illumination reflect off the beautifully curved balconies. Each patio has a personal entrance to the pool with a small channel leading into the main central area. How inviting!

My husband and I needed a vacation from our work and the colder climate of Canada. So we booked a last minute trip to Mak Nuk, our first trip to the Mayan Riviera. Even though the hotel wasn't completely finished at the time (Nov, 2013), workers were still building, no restaurant or swim up bar, units still being completed, we found ourselves completely enjoying and relaxing in this beautiful get-a-way. The managers, owners and staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We found the privacy and the quiet rest we needed to rejuvenate. The Jacuzzi in our condo (wonderfully designed and decorated with top quality finishes) was just what we needed to unwind along with lounging by the pool in the amazing and tropical grounds. We enjoyed the other guests and owners who respected our privacy but were very welcoming and included us in the social activities if we so choose. There was even a birthday supper arranged for my husband. Oh and the food was amazing... prepared by their in-house chef. We could walk into town, close to most of the restaurants, shopping and ice cream! Our time there resulted in making life-long friends and in the end we purchased a condo... we loved it so much. We are heading back there in Feb, 2014 to enjoy our condo, amenities, pool, beach, and the people who make this place the best. Thank you Mak Nuk. See you again soon.

Room Tip: The swim up rooms are the great with your own secluded swim up area of the pool.

My boyfriend and I had the best vacation ever at Mak Nuk. That place is just PARADISE. Everything is done with incredible taste and attention to detail and gives an overall feeling of well being and harmony. When we walked into our one bedroom apartment, we were both like "YES!!!!". It's so spacious that we could easily live there all year long (we're seriously considering it, it's THAT good). The amenities are 4-5*, which we were told by a friend who's been to many hotels in Tulum, has never been seen elsewhere so far: marble floors, gorgeous dark wood designer furnitures, pastel colors on the walls, king size bed, huge rain shower, and the best part: 6 people jacuzzi on the balcony.
It's located just a few blocks from the center but it feels very private and secluded. There is a free shuttle going to the beach or to town all day long.
The lush vegetation surrounds a beautiful pool that lit up at night making the whole place look like a wonderland.
Happy hour was organized everyday, with complementary drinks and appetizers, which allows to meet the other tenants/owners. With Kathy, Patricia, the Rogers, and Mike and Chrissy, the property managers, it's a guaranteed good time.
I've been to nudist resorts before but don't really consider myself a nudist. At Mak Nuk, I felt like I had the freedom to be nude or wear clothes and didn't feel pressured in any way. It's just a very relaxed and non judging atmosphere and you won't be looked at in a weird way if you are wearing clothes.
I really recommend this place to everyone and especially those with high standards and expectations like me :) 5*****

Room Tip: Choose 2nd or 3rd floor for more privacy and jacuzzi. Ground floor units have direct access to the p...

The pictures of the place don't do it justice. We new it would be beautiful, but it was better than expected. The grounds were wonderful, the pool fantastic, and the grounds were in top shaped. While they were still finishing some units (its that new) there was absolutely no inconvenience to us. No noise, only 3-4 workers, if that many, and all very nice. They had a few finishing touches remaining, but it was fabulous. We cooked in our unit and ate in Tulum. The units are fantastic. Beautiful quality, soooo spacious, marble floors, solid wood doors, windows galore, wonderful furniture, a/c worked great. These are luxury 5 star units at a great price. I'm sure the price will go up soon because these are a great price.

I'm told they will have a fully functioning bar and restaurant soon, though it was not up and running when we were there, which we new in advance. But with town so close (a few blocks away), you can walk, (though the area is a little rough), take a taxi for peanuts, or have them shuttle you into town. You can have the choice of some great local restaurants, or eat in your unit if you want to lay low (local grocery store close by with all you need).

They shuttle you to the beach, which is close by, and the shuttle runs every 2 hours, so you can spend 2, 4, 6 or more hours at the beach. They will take you to public beaches or their own private beach, whichever you prefer. A great, relaxing, beautiful vacation. We'll be back, and soon.

Spectacular pool, lush landscaping, top quality new construction with high ceilings, tile floors, rain-head shower, double bathroom vessel style sinks, designer furniture, full size appliances, granite counters and private hot tub on 2nd and 3rd floor units.

We spent a week at Mak Nuk and will stay longer on our next visit. We alternated days between the Mak Nuk pool and the beach. Resort arranges a shuttle to the nearby nude beach each day. After 2 or 3 hours at the beach the shuttle drops you at a local naturist club (called ? Por Que No ?) nestled in a jungle setting which dishes up hamburgers and sausage sandwiches along with full bar service. They have a good volleyball pool, lockers, restrooms and sunny area for tanning.

You have the choice of cooking or eating out when you stay at Mak Nuk. There's a huge new supermarket in Tulum. Taxis wait outside to take you and your groceries home (cost is 30 pesos.) If you prefer, the resort staff will shop for you before your arrival and stock your condo. If your preference is to eat out, there are two excellent restaurants just a few blocks away. Taxis cruise by constantly if you prefer to go further into Tulum to sample other restaurants.

We had a second floor condo and will book a 3rd floor penthouse unit next time. These condos come with a private rooftop pool and hot tub. The bottom floor condos have personal swim-up 'rivers' leading to their patios.

The condos are privately owned and several owners were in residence. A friendly and welcoming group of naturist who clue you in on all the great places to eat and visit in Tulum.

The resort plans pool-side dinners on occasion for all interested tenants and the meal we shared with them, cooked by Drew, was stellar. They plan to offer all inclusive packages in the near future. Yum yum.

Resort manager Mike and his wife Chrissy were friendly and helpful. They've done a first class job getting this development up and running and as naturists we appreciate that we now have an alternative to the high priced naturists Mexico resorts. We look forward to visiting every year!
