I'm a picky world traveler with a very critical view of hotels and value offered. This was my first visit to Tulum and, although I had high expectations based on recommendations, I was apprehensive - especially having arrived through Cancun and braving the busy, nearly two hour drive.
The great news is that Tulum is super relaxing and your room at The Beach Tulum could be literally on the beach. According to the locals we spoke to elsewhere in Tulum, The Beach is a relatively recent reincarnation and, although it doesn't feel brand new, there is certainly no wear and tear in the public spaces or the accommodation. The public spaces are cool and spacious, the staff are enormously helpful and friendly and the room we had (208) was clean, large and had views to die for. You walk out of your large sliding doors onto a patio which is on the beautiful Tulum beach.
Everything else was great- Ziggy's did a great breakfast; the bar there in the evening was quiet but friendly; the internet connection is OK, but spotty and as I mentioned, the staff are attentive and eager to please. Special mention to Dan on reception and Fernando #1 in the reception area and Fernando #2 at Ziggy's Bar. Silvina and Mariana are a glamorous and thoughtful support staff too.
If you're thinking about a beautiful beach, relaxing laid-back atmosphere, affordable and largely excellent restaurants - go to Tulum.
If you go to Tulum - stay at The Beach!

Room Tip: The superior rooms have patios on the beach and a private roof terrace. You'll never have to lea...

We stayed in a deluxe room and asked for upstairs. We preferred to have a private terrace to hang out than being right on the beach and we were not disappointed. The balcony was lovely for the occasional rainstorm, and the terrace was great for a bit of private tanning (although if the neighbours had used theirs more it would have been less private).
Everybody was so warm from the minute we arrived, with the manager bringing a frozen drink to welcome us at check in. The property is quite small, we didn't spend time at the pool, it's not for swimming but it looked lovely. It's hard to tell from walking about what any of these beach-front places are like, they often look quite similar, they mostly seem to have restaurants, but there was something special about The Beach and we were so glad we chose it. The room was clean and quite large, with a set of three drawers, and a bench in the room and a decent closet with hanging space, shelves, and a safe. Facing the beach you have an entire wall of sliding glass doors. Fantastic. I commented it was the first time in years I had enough space to completely unpack and stash my case out of sight. The bathroom was huge, nicely done, with a good shower and an enormous bath (that didn't really retain water.) My one complaint was the bed - putting my fussiness aside the linens could easily be better quality and fit the bed properly and they could get some better pillows. You can get a massage in your room, on your terrace, or on the beach - I had one in my room. Angie was lovely, it wasn't an earth-shattering massage but it did the job!

Value-wise, I do think it's a bit pricey but for this sort of hotel I doubt you'll find better value or a more pleasant environment.

Having Ziggy's right there was great. We thought the prices were fair given that I expect a hotel to rip me off. For example, an espresso for $2, I think that's really fair for a hotel. Every day for breakfast we did order more than what is included for free but never spent more than $10 or so. Our morning waiter Ubaldo was just brilliant. Funny, engaged and attentive. All the staff at Ziggy's were A+ and yes service might be a bit slow but even as a New Yorker I could chill out enough to enjoy that. All meals there were tasty and reasonably priced, and there are good vegetarian options for dinner.

You can easily jump in a taxi or walk to other places for food and drinks. It took us 30 minutes walking on the road to get to the last stretch of restaurants towards the top of the strip but there are other options closer. If you go walking at night, take a flashlight.

Our experience with The Beach Tulum matches most of the other Tripadvisor evaluations herein. We enjoyed an excellent six-day stay (Sunday through Friday) at The Beach Tulum (TBT) in mid-April 2014.

We used the Zuley Transfer Company, arranged through TBT, to travel between Cancún and Tulum. The driver picked us up on-time at the taxi stands at the airport and drove us to TBT in just under two hours. He picked us up on-time at TBT on our departure date and took us back to the airport, well ahead of our flight’s departure. We paid for this service ($200 USD) through TBT, settling the bill on our departure.

On arrival around 3:00 PM, our check-in process went smoothly and we were given Room 10, a second floor Deluxe room, just to the rear of the lobby building. Our room was as depicted in the hotel’s web site photographs: digital safe, large closet, table and drawers, spacious bath (tub / shower), and separate toilet room. We found the bed to be very comfortable. We closed the sliding door to the balcony at night, and we slept comfortably with the air conditioning and ceiling fan. We enjoyed the hammock on the balcony and the sun deck on the roof, both in the early mornings and late afternoons. We found that the Wi-Fi worked very well in our room and on the beach, in the designated hotel area. The hotel also has a lazy river style swimming pool. The Superior rooms each have private access to the pool. We never used it, preferring to hang out on the beach. Most of the beachfront is reserved for hotel guests, as opposed to day visitors to Ziggy’s restaurant. The beachfront has beds with cushions that are easily moved in and of the shade of the coconut trees. TBT is adult-only and there were no children on the beach in the TBT-reserved section of the beach, just quiet, relaxed adults. We never found this part of the beach to be crowded.

We met and interacted with management, front desk/concierge, housekeeping, maintenance, restaurant, and security staff during our stay, and everyone was very welcoming, personable, engaging, and helpful. The buildings and grounds of the TBT are well maintained by a sizable staff. Housekeeping cleaned our room and changed our bed linen every day. TBT has on-site security on the beach, something we didn’t see at any of the other hotels as we strolled up and down the beach. The adjoining Ziggy’s Beach restaurant is very good (reviewed separately), and we ate most or our meals at the restaurant, with breakfast included in the daily room rate. The restaurant staff served the beach during the day, and we often ordered lunch and drinks under the coconut trees at beachfront, in front of the hotel. We attended the Tequila Tasting with Fernando on Tuesday night, and we really enjoyed it. We learning much about the different types of Tequilas and sampled over half a dozen brands, including the excellent (and expensive) Clase Azul brand.

On one morning, we made arrangements through the concierge for transportation to the ancient Mayan city of Cobá. We paid $125 (USD) for a taxi to take us to and from the ruins. For this rate, the driver would also have taken us to a local lunch place in or around Cobá and to several of the nearby cenotes. However, we were enjoying the beach so much that we decided to defer lunch out and the cenotes to a future trip. We left the hotel at 8:00 AM and we returned just before 12:00 PM, following a 90 minute tour of the ruins with a trained, certified guide. We recommend the trip to Cobá, and well as to the Tulum ruins, which we visited on a previous trip. The concierges can recommend other interesting things to see and do in Tulum, if one has the energy. The concierges can also recommend other restaurants in the area. On the concierges’ recommendation, we had dinner at Posada Margherita one night, and it too was excellent and within walking distance of TBT on the beach.

The Beach Tulum is a fine hotel, and we hope to return next year.

Room Tip: Second floor Deluxe rooms have balconies and sun decks.

We celebrated our 4th anniversary at The Beach Tulum and it was great from start to finish. Our Superior Room had an incredible, unobstructed view of the beach/ocean that was amazing to wake up to every morning. You can literally walk out your front door and you're right on the beach. You don't have to walk through the lobby or restaurant. It also had a nice private deck and two beach chairs to sit on and watch the waves while you eat your breakfast––probably my favorite thing to do every morning.

Our room also had private roof access and a hot tub, which we sadly never used because we loved the huge jacuzzi tub in our room (which also had a view of the beach!). Our room also opened up into an awesome winding in-ground pool, which was great on the days it was too windy to go into the ocean.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and you could tell they wanted you to enjoy your stay (which was not the case at Be Tulum, whose staff acts like they don't need your business). At The Beach Tulum we were greeted in our room with champaign, rose petals and towel swans on the bed and a "happy 4th anniversary" from the concierge, Silviana. In fact, every day there was some new towel-shaped animal on the bed. A nice touch.

The AC situation can be a little bit of a downer because it turns on at 7:15pm and off at 7am. This was a bit frustrating the first two nights as it was really warm outside, but the rest of the week we were lucky enough to have a cool ocean breeze to keep the room cool until the AC turned on. That said, I appreciate that they're doing this to be eco-friendly. The only other two minor flaws we found with the place were: 1: there was no phone in the room to call room service, so you have to go to the front desk and have a waiter sent to the room. And 2: the towels and linens seemed to have some old stains on them.

Overall, our experience was great and we would definitely go back. For the price, it's definitely one of the better hotels you can stay in at Tulum and the view is AMAZING.

One more thing to mention: communication with the hotel staff was great before the trip–they emailed me confirming my trip, offered a discount and welcomed us to Tulum the day before we flew out. The responses were speedy and they answered all of my requests. We even received a "Thank You" email from them after we left the hotel. A nice touch that you're not used to seeing.

Room Tip: Get a Superior Room. Well worth the price.

My wife and I just spent a destination wedding weekend at the Beaches and thought everything was excellent. The staff was very helpful and accomodating and could not do enough for us to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The breakfast which is included was very good and was actually quite filling. Being there for a wedding we did eat at different locations down the beach but the wedding food was excellent and we did enjoy a beautiful dinner with an amazing view of the beach at Ziggys. We had a second floor room with a rooftop terrace. This was very comfortable. We were able to walk up and down the beach without any problems during the day and definitely plan on coming back.

Room Tip: Depending on your personality, the first floor rooms open directly onto the beach, while the second...

The view from our room was incredible! If we were any closer to the water, we would have had to wear our bathing suits to bed. Service was gracious and warm. Aubrey could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Service was prompt.
Accommodations were very pricey, but the view could not be surpassed.

This is a great boutique hotel for relaxation in Tulum . Excellent staff that was very hospitable and accommodated to every need. Especially the managers including Roberto and Leonardo. Staff at the reception (roman)was also very friendly, always looking to help you navigate the local restaurants and sites. Bartenders at Ziggy restaurant were awesome (pancho, Eric, ulesis)
The only negative comment I could make is that the rooms did not have any furniture other than the bed. This was not a big issue because each room opened up to the beach and most of our time was spent by the water. I highly recommend the beach Tulum resort.
