Owner description: The Tulum Monkey Sanctuary was closed on October 13, 2014 due to the death of the owner of the property. Thank you for your support. The Tulum Monkey Sanctuary is a privately owned 60 acre ranch. On the ranch we have 15 rescued Spider Monkeys that live in natural habitats. There are also wild monkeys that pass through on their normal feeding routes. In addition to Spider Monkeys we have saved many, many animals including lots of street dogs. Although the Tulum Monkey Sanctuary is closed at the moment we hope you will support us in our move to the YuCARE Ranch. The YuCARE Foundation will be dedicated to broad based animal rescue (starting with the monkeys of Tulum Monkey Sanctuary) and will be self-sustaining both financially and environmentally.

Two women staying at our hotel had reservations at this new attraction and invited me along. The price for the 3 -hour tour was very reasonable and the location on the Coba road was close by. At first I was turned off that the monkeys were not in the wild like at Punta Lagona, but our guide, John, made me realize how important it is to provide a natural environment for monkeys that have had human contact for one reason or another and can't be reintroduced to the wild. The sanctuary does take very good care of them and has provided a natural setting on Monkey Island for them to live in. John gave us as much time as we wanted to "visit" with the monkeys and each seemed to have its own personality. The tour also included a authentic jungle hike over a dry cenote on an expansive swinging bridge, a swim in two different cavern type cenotes. If you are a bit too timid like myself about jumping into a cenote hole 10 ft. down, there is a stairway for the not so faint of heart to enter into the cool water. A tasty snack of fresh fruit and juice rounded out the day.
Do wear your swim suit, sturdy shoes, and bring mosquito repellant. .

Off the beaten bath of typical Tulum tourist "stuff". Our guide John was knowledgeable of the area and all of Tulum and surrounding area. Great hike thru the jungle talking about the plants and life in general. Private hidden cenote is always amazing.
