“Nice place, bad experience with the owner”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

When we arrived Miguel showed us the room and we negotiated a price of 450 pesos. We've been traveling through mexico for 5 weeks and make sure every time to ask for all included amenities in spanish. No issues being understood so far.

Miguel described the breakfast that was included. The first morning we meet the owner who wasn't there last night and he told us we have to pay 60 pesos each for breakfast. I protest, that's not what we agreed to, he doesn't budge.

I don't have an issue with a 60 peso breakfast, I do however have an issue with people changing the pricing / amenities after the fact.

I decided to renegotiate the price upon checkout to account for the missing breakfast. Our ensuing argument almost brought us to the police station when we decided it was best to let it slide and pay the man.

Very unprofessional and uncourteous behavior from someone working in the service industry. I'm not impressed, and would not recommend staying here.
Our first bad lodging experience in Mexico so far. Would recommend checking out Posada los Mapaches, we weren't able to stay there since it was full but they were friendly and helpful in finding another place.

Saludos cordiales

My friend and I stayed in the dorm in el punto for two nights just some days ago.
I liked the atmosphere here, good vibe (guests, employees, music at the reception,..).

We met really nice people here and in the same time the women only dormitory was
Very confy. The only problem was the heat and the mosquitos in the night.

The location of the hostel, which provides free bike rentals, was perfect for me (close to downtown, not too far from the beach).

I recommend this hostel for low budget travellers!

my friend and me spend two nights in el punto. we decided that the hotel itself is nice but much to expencive for its bad service. we arrived and nobody was at the desc. in the evening we had to ask for the air conditioner, the fridge was full of water, the wifi did not work in our room and the shower was really basic.
the next morning we had breakfast which was good. a night after that, when the owner himself arrived he cancelled our breakfast and our airconditioner because we did not book it which we did not know. a very unfriendly end for us. we will not come back.

Room Tip: The dorms are open to the lobby. i would take a private room.

This hotel was great for us, we were travelling on a budget so although it is a little way from the town and beach, being between the two and making use of the free bicycles was ideal.
The staff were very relaxed and friendly. The wifi tended only to work in the main foyer rather than in the rooms but that was the only negative thing I could say about this place.
The hotel was clean and the rooms were cleaned daily. The a/c worked well and having a fridge in our room was an added bonus. The kitchen area is large, although it could do with a few more pieces of crockery - there was lots of "could i use that when you're finished" between the guests.
Overall i'd certainly recommend this hotel for a great stay in Tulum although be prepared to cycle for 25mins for beach access.
If you fancy the treat of eating out, Salt & Peper at the end of the road (3 mins walk) is recommended too.

Tulum has turned into some expensive hippy hangout.... Staying in a hotel is likely to cost more here than in playa del carmen now, but its worth it for the beaches, ruins and easy trips to coba and chichen.

El up to is a good choice, but don't expect anything spectacular. The owner is very chilled out but does not offer the kind of quality Mexican service, you may be used to in other cities. The hotel has ok rooms, clean and big enough. Lots of hot water as well. The kitchen is brilliant, and saves money in an otherwise expensive town.

If you are looking for a good affordable choice, then this is for you. But it's no honeymoon destination.

My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights last february. After that we stayed in a Resort right in the beach, and I can say that El punto is the smarter choice at Tulum. The hotel and the rooms are nice and very comfortable, and you have free bikes to go wherever you want very easily. That includes the beach 10 min, some cenotes 15 min, Tulum ruins 20 min, and downtown 5 min. Carlos and Fernanda, its owners, are very friendly and are always ready to help you. If all this isn't enough consider that the rates are a half of the hotels at the beach...

This hotel was absolutely wonderful.... We stayed 7 days and had a very easy peaceful time.
Very nice communal kitchen, breakfast included with room rates. We stayed in a room with extra large king size bed and private bathroom/shower. Met many single travelers who stayed in the dormitories which were clean and roomy. Maid service was excellent. Owner is friendly & easy going... free bike use for hotel guests, bike paths to beach and Tulum ruin site. Easy bike ride to beach. We will definately be back.

Room Tip: All rooms were great!!
