“Beautiful location - hotel just average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

We stayed here for three days in the wake of Hurricane Ernesto. The staff were obviously very busy cleaning up after the hurricane and trying to get the hotel back in order. For this I give them full marks for, 24 hours after the hurricane, all was up and running once more.

The hotel is in a beautiful location and our room led right onto the beach. The rooms are very spacious, but very jaded, not very clean and not well-maintained - in desperate need of renovation. We found that we couldn't turn the main light off - turn the switch up and the light stays one, turn the switch down and the light stays on. The only way we could turn the light off was to wedge a bit of paper in the switch so it stayed half-way! We had hoped that the cleaner would notice when she cleaned the room, but she didn't. Please to say it was fixed when we reported it - but, come on, a working light should be fundamental in any hotel room and even more so when the hotel is not particularly cheap.

The bar staff were very pleasant and the receptionist very sympathetic, but the cleaner "accidentally took" my shampoo, which I think is unacceptable. The breakfast was below average considering how much the rooms cost - luke-warm coffee, under-ripe fruit, orange squash as opposed to orange juice (one of my pet hates and the sign of a hotel cutting corners). No wifi which was quite a surprise as we were at the end of a 15 day trip and all the previous hotels we had stayed in had it. Because of this we tended not to eat in the hotel as all the nearby restaurants had wifi.

We stayed here for 3 nights in June. It was wonderful to be right on the beach. But it was a shock to find nobody in the office, no food available at the hotel, no telephone service (or internet) at the hotel and basically stuck on a beach road that was miles away from the town where we could buy basics (like bottled water, snacks, food, etc.) It is an $8 to $10 taxi ride (one way) into town where all the restaurants and shopping are located. The person who did show up at the office periodically spoke no English. Now I realize we're in Mexico and we should be able to speak some Spanish but I've been all over the world and when I pay the kind of money I paid for a place like this, I expect at least some of the staff to be able to communicate with guests who come from all over, and at least some of the reception staff to be there. It was a little spooky at night because of the lack of guests there at the time, nobody in the office, very dimly lit grounds and just a security guard walking around all night with a flashlight. Of course, we loved being right on this beautiful beach in Tulum, but there are dozens of properties up and down the beach and we were sorry we hadn't checked the others out more thoroughly.

Room Tip: You definitely want a beach front room if you stay here.

We loved Los Lirios. Loved it. We experienced none of the negatives. The rooms were fantastic, the AC was as cold as you could want and the staff and service were the best I've experienced in many travels around the world. There are deals to be had for this hotel, so I'm guessing no one would ever need to pay the list price. We rolled the dice and went during hurricane season. Ernesto rolled in while we were there and we were completely taken care of by the staff and management. Less than 18 hours after the storm, the staff still threw a birthday party for our son with pinata, cake, food and all. Amazing. New management has upgraded the site a bit and it really is a great place to stay. Do not listen to those who say you don't need AC or 24/7 electricity in Tulum. If there is even a slight heat wave, you do need it. All I can say is thank you to Los Lirios for making our vacation so memorable and wonderful.

Room Tip: Beach front rooms are nice, but the garden view cabanas still have some view of the ocean.

We got a deal on this room and needed a place for only two nights. The hotel is right on a nice beach and even though we had a basic room it had a sea view. Room in need of TLC (stains on curtains, paint chipped in bath tub, rust stains on bedside lamps, etc) but it felt clean. Breakfast served late (8.30 am), no lunch, no dinner, no bar, no mini bar or fridge or coffee service in room, no internet. Nice happy hour next door (not sure of the name of the restaurant go to beach and take a left) with wifi that you can even connect to from the beach chair closest to Los Lorios. In the mornings I would get a cappuccino next door and check my email from the beach chair. I would go here again if I the price was right for a very short stay.

Ser the review for the tulum Los Lirios. We met other families while we were her.e. everyone was miserable and nobody could get their money back to go somewhere else.

We ended up going to Ana y Jose and cabanas tulum for food and drinks with our children for every meal. Also the air conditioning doesn't really work because the ceilings are so high in the palapas that the ac can't cool it all. Because they have no mosquito nets, you can't open the windows. Our little girls were all miserable

We stayed 4 nights at Los Lirios in July 2012 in a beachfront room.
PROS: Beautiful view, airconditioned room, friendly breakfast staff, lovely beach.
CONS: Lots of very noisy construction work going on right next to our room and next to the beach. It was seriously noisy including drilling and even a cement mixer. The noise started as early as 7 or 8am and continued past 6pm. It made resting in our room impossible throughout the trip. When we spoke to management they were sympathetic but did absolutely nothing about it. In addition, there was a lot of garden maintenance work going on outside our room so our view of the ocean was pretty much the half dozen gardeners most of the time and on the second day we were woken at 7am with the sound of a tree being cut down by a machete.

We stayed for 8 nights May 19th thru May 28th. This is our 3rd stay at Los Lirios. Upstairs suite, beach view. I understand Sadiq's review after looking at his picture. It is not a busy beach right there but he is young and probably enjoys crowds. Not us....we like some isolation like it used to be on the Boca Paila Carretera when it was all potholes and a few cabanas. Anyway there are miles of beaches to walk and visit so that shouldn't be a problem.
Our room was spacious and very clean. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom. The air conditioning is nice when it gets hot. I love sitting on the balcony and watching the ocean. It would be nice to have a refrigerator but we bought a styrofoam (sp?) cooler at the new market and would get a bag of ice about every other day. Worked well to keep beer, juice and leftovers cold. They also do not supply pure water but at stops at the market we would buy the BIG bottles of water, a funnel and just refilled drinking bottles. We used about 2 1/2 big bottles (4 to 5 gallons each) over the eight days. Much cheaper than buying smaller bottles at the store or especially at the restaurant.
The breakfasts, which were included, were very good with omelets made to order and lots of other choices on some of the days when they had the buffet. Midweek you got choices from the menu and all the fruit, juice etc. that you wanted. The breakfast staff was great! Very nice and friendly. We had dinner there a couple of nights and it was fine and reasonably priced. They have remodeled and expanded the restaurant but it tends to look a little like a dining hall.
I don't understand the one review that said it was a long way from the beach. The beach is right there! And it is part of miles of the best sand and beach you will ever see. The limestone sand is soft and cool no matter how hot the sun is. The seaweed does wash up overnight but they clean it all up every morning just like most places along the Boca Paila Road.
I also like room safes but taking our passports and cash to the office was no problem. They don't have room safes. The place seems very secure. One night I walked out to the beach and a gentleman approached me in a friendly manner and then he asked if I was a guest. I'm sure he was just checking to make sure I belonged.
I just read gitaKP's review again and agree 100% . It may not be ultra eco-chic but I have looked at lots of other places in the area and stayed in a few others but I really think with all the upsides of Los Lirios it is probably going to be my choice again. I have stayed in a lower garden suite once and upstairs, ocean view twice. The garden suite was fine but I have to admit that I really like the upstairs ocean view.
Maybe it is a slow time but our room was about $115 a night including breakfast. On some other places we viewed on the internet and while we were there the prices seemed really high for what you got in room size and style.
