“As close to Paradise as I've come”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2012

We came to Tulum after a hectic music festival to get ourselves back together. We had booked into another Tulum hotel that had come highly recommended however it didn't feel quite right. We were happy enough as we had the most beautiful beach with the whitest sand; what can only be described as the most see through sea ever and restaurants of the Gods. We couldn't get enough of Tulum but something wasn't quite right.

This is when we moved to Ahau and everything seemed right with the world. We'd come across the hotel on walks on the beach and it looked beautiful from the outside. Once we checked in, it only got better. The welcome we got was the antithesis to what we'd just experienced so was even more welcome. We stayed in a Junior Suite and we woke in wonder every morning to see the sun rise from our big, comfy bed.

The bathrooms were adequate and you do need to bear in mind that it is an eco resort for things like water pressure. It wasn't a problem at all but good to remember you are essentially 'off the grid' in Tulum.

The beds on the beach were made for two so you were never short of company whilst sunbathing. The restaurant was delicious. Menu is short and sweet but fresh and tasty. There are so many amazing restaurants in Tulum it would be a sin not to try them out.

There was a nice buzz in general around the place and it never felt like there was many other people there but all the rooms were full. Also, the set up of the Ahau must be commended - having tiered accommodation and prices means it feels like an inclusive resort rather than exclusive which I personally think is what makes it so special.

Each time our check out day arrived we had to add more days on to our stay it was such a glorious stay. Highly recommended.

Missing the Ahau family already! We spent 10 amazing days in this peacefully energized beach strip, happily shoeless and soulful. The staff is truly friendly and attentive, and we felt really cared for. The food delighted my tastebuds day after day! We stayed in a charming Bali Hut, small (basically a good bed, a few hangers and direct access to outside bathroom) but good enough for sleeping on budget, you really wanna be outside most of the time! We spent a few days in the guest house, likewise comfortable. Larger and fully equipped suites on the beachfront looked amazing and i hope to stay there one day! Also, all infrastructure is eco-conscious and energy-efficient, plus all equipment is built in-house, with very good taste —elegantly laid-back, in context! I found it really nice that they offer different pricepoint options yet you sense a common-thread flow of great energy among all guests. Plus Ahau was full yet you never really feel it, it’s as if people float silently within the space. Yoga classes in the morning overlooking the sea are a must, and I highly recommend the massages, a step closer to heaven. So are the sunset views from the water tower! Do take the opportunity to cleanse your body and spirit and bond with the elements at a Temazcal (sweatlodge), it’s a very special experience, Omateo! A live concert was also a major bonus! So, overall a highly recommended stay we will surely be repeating! Ahau is now a new adjective and expression! big hug and tks to you all! xx

I can't quite find the right way to describe just how perfect this place is... i'll see what i can do...

On arriving, the amazingly friendly staff greeted me with enthusiasm, professionalism, and courtesy. I was left to wonder around and get my bearings after a 13 hour journey from London, and checked in at my convenience - was offered a drink on the house and was then shown to my most amazing room... Junior Suite, with doors onto a terrace, then two steps down to the beach. Immaculately presented room, huge comfortable bed, luxury robes and towels which were only just whiter than the white sand i was looking at through the massive picture windows.

Part of a wedding party, every whim and request was dealt with swiftly, and without fault.

I really can't express properly how amazing this place is - forget Cancun and Playa del Carmen Playa Tulum is paradise on earth, and there's no other place to stay in Tulum other than Ahau Tulum. FANTASTIC

Room Tip: Communal rooms are immaculate, but i preferred to stay in a private room - Junior suite was amazing

Ahau is incredible! Great location, excellent service and staff, wonderful food, and the location on the beach is great. We stayed in the Jr Suite, which had a very comfortable bed, a view of the beach, and a great ocean breeze to keep us nice and cool. Note: if you can splurge, even for a night or two, try to stay in the Master Suite if you can -- they are just amazing. But, as I mentioned, the Jr Suites are great too.
Our trip was really made by the staff too. They were so friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of during our stay.
We will certainly stay here when we go back to Tulum.

Room Tip: Master Suite if you can do it. BUT, Jr Suites are great too. Try to get a top floor.

First at all the hotel is placed at a nice location. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The restaurant serves very good food and the service is super. We stay only one night, we went back twice to eat.
We got a junior suite on top level, spacious, great balcony with sea view. No wardrobe, just a wall-bar with few coat-hanger. The room is filled with light due to the big front window and the rear to window.....and yes is going to be hot. The small (noisy) ventilator over the bed will not help very much. We managed to let the front windows door open, despite it was quite windy. On the top of that we got a problem with the wc, which needed to be replaced the day after.
Ok, ok not so terrible, but for $200 at night definitly not ok. By check out we were asked at the reception for a review, which we gave with the same points above. The points were written down, so I hope a few improvement will be done.

Hola Amigos!

We really appreciate your review, and for us is very important each one of them to make our property the best one in Tulum Beach, we really want to offer an special experience to all of our guest.
We want to inform you that now we have place Air Condition to all the Master and Junior suites on the beach level, and that was planned since the begining but when you stay with us we tought it was still a little cool to do it.
The way our A/C runs is only during the night when we are charging our battery bank with the generator so that way there is no waste of energy.
Also the fans are being replace, our hotel has been open only for 6 months and due to the fact of being so close to the ocean everything gets damage really fast and we are learning which devices work better for Tulum
Please come back to visit us any time you like.
Sincerely

the feeling at Ahau is that of a quality stay! perfectly located right on the beach, we immediately felt connected to the place and to its peaceful vibe. The food is excellent and the owners and staff were all very friendly, discreet and yet available to help at all times. We had a lot of fun and a lot of rest!
The range of prices per night were very interesting, we stayed in a Bali hut, a bit small but suitable for its main purpose, that is sleeping.. The Guest house was fine too.. but what really made the stay so pleasant was the beach, the social areas, the sunset tower, the massages, etc.. Hopefully someday we'll try the suites! they look amazing, hard to find better!
A reference in Tulum indeed :)
