We did no stay at this property so can only comment on the restaurant which we visited three times during our stay in Tulum. The first night our experience was positive. The food was good and the wait staff was very attentive (our waiter even recognized us in the grocery store days later and stopped to chat). Based on our initial visit we returned two more times. The last night of our stay we had a completely different experience. The food was average, and one dish had to be sent back. We were not the only diners to do so - our neighbors did the same. The owner was present at the time of our visit and seemed unbothered by our negative experience, worse he seemed almost to disregard it with an air of arrogance. I am glad that I am not one of the wait staff as his attitude around them was painful to observe. At the time of our visit the owner’s relatives and friends were in the restaurant. They were loud and obnoxious. I am sensitive to cultural differences (the owner is Italian and the guests were French and Italian), but the manner in which they smoked indoors with no concern for others in the room (especially as we were eating) was a further example of their snobbery and lack of concern for anyone but their immediate group. The owner seemed more concerned that his friends were having a good time. Our neighbors sent back the majority of their meals, and when they tried the breakfast the following day that too had to be sent back as it was inedible. Perhaps we just miss the days of small unpretentious properties at this end of the beach. (we had to try to sleep with the sound of the restaurant and kitchen over riding the sound of the surf each night).
