“Excellent hotel in Tulum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2014

I travelled with my family of 4 (including 12 and 14 year olds) and we had an amazing time. Las Palmas is clean, well- stocked with towels and filtered water, and a minute from the beach. I could always find a palapa no matter what time I arrived at the beach and it was not crowded even though it was spring break. Loved that the kitchen cut costs, and Tom's recommendations for tours and food were spot on.

Would recommend that you rent a car as the restaurants in this hotel zone are quite pricey. Also bring a debit card or lots of pesos as credit cards are taken almost nowhere and US dollars have a very poor exchange rate if you pay in US $. Bring lots of mosquito repellant and sunscreen too!!!

The hotel had everything we needed for the beach - a large communal kitchen, nice and clean room and bathroom. Fans kept us comfortable at night, and the mosquito net was an added romantic touch. Tom and Hugo were very helpful. Would be easier to stay here with a car, more affordable restaurants and shops are a few km away. But it is also manageable with walking and bikes.

I was there for just 2 nights in late March. I had spent 3 nights at Dreams Tulum up the coast and not really in Tulum. That Was an all-inclusive with all the typical amenities. Not to mention air conditioning and TVs. Stuff yourself on buffets whenever you want and drink like a fish until they roll you out. That's fine if that's what you want. But you can do that anywhere. Go to Tulum to experience authentic Mexico with a bohemian vibe and laid back cool. LPM has neither AC or Tv's and who cares. I won't repeat what others have said other than to say just say yes to experiences while there. Stay open minded. Mix with the locals as they live right next door. Buy the juice from the beautiful woman on the street a few doors down. Snorkel with locals while they spearfish for dinner and to sell to restaurants. Eat the ceviche that the locals prepared with the fresh caught fish. Do yoga on the beach. Get a numerology reading from a beautiful local spiritual girl. LPM is the perfect place to be in the middle of this. Thanks to Tom and Alma. I'll be back for a longer stay.

We couldn't have said it better ourselves! While there is a place for the all-inclusives, we feel Tulum offers a more real Mexico experience. Glad you were able to slide right in and enjoy it like a local. We absolutely do hope that you will return soon. Thanks again for the review!

This is my first time to Mexico, I knew nothing about Tulum before I go. I read lots comments online. Some of them are talking about not enough power, no hot water for shower, too much mosquitoes about hotels at Tulum hotel zone. So I was kind of worrying about what can I get for such a budget price.
When I got there, it turned out my best decision. The hotel is nice and clean. No power and hot water problem. They have a big and lovely kitchen where you can prepare you own food or enjoy there coffee and talk to other guest. The manager Tom and his staff is very nice and helpful too. Thanks for everything!

Wonderful that you had such a pleasant surprise, not just in Tulum, but in LPM as well! Because of the off-the-grid power situation, those that have not experienced it before may worry. We've invested heavily so that our guests can be comfortable 24/7 with power, hot water, wifi, etc. Glad that you enjoyed and please do come visit again!

This was a relaxing place for our family of 5 to enjoy Tulum, from..worked so well it was probably the favorite place we stayed on our 3 week vacation.
Communal kitchen cut down costs, and there is a little shop you can get a stack of fresh tortillas from everyday just minutes away.
The beach really is right there, easy accessed and not at all crowded.
Rooms were tidied everyday, the place was run vet well and I would recommend it to anyone who wants rustico elegance in Tulum :)

Room Tip: we were in the Garden room- was perfecto!

My girlfriend and I needed a hotel that suited our needs/budget and we found so much MORE at Las Palmas Maya! Both of us are seasoned travelers and what we found was a great home base with everything that you will need to enjoy in Tulum! The kitchen was cleaner than my own and always had water and ICE at all times!!! The room had everything you will need (including ceiling and another fan which we enjoyed immensely), an awesome bathroom that always has hot water and daily cleaning that was great without being invasive.

Tom is as you have heard. Thorough, respectful, humorous and above all reliable. From smart food choices to inexpensive ways to enjoy everything you want. He has trained an amazing staff who are honest, helpful and playfully fun to speak to.

The thing to realize is that Las Palmas is RIGHT where you want to be. We went up and down the strip to find a better location and we couldn't. What you have is the perfect spot and jump on it!!! With the relationship they have created across the street you have the beach in 30 seconds and you have a KITCHEN to absorb cost!!!! There is a small market down the street where you can get your small stuff...a fridge to keep it in and then the beach. Honestly folks don't miss this gem.

Room Tip: All of them are good from what we saw. Lower rooms will be cooler but that is just thermodynamics.

My family and I stayed at Las Palmas Maya for five nights. We had a great experience! Tom (the manager) was extremely helpful and friendly, and gave us tons of excellent travel tips. It was great having the communal kitchen so we could prepare our own meals and there was always a full water dispenser! The hammock lounge above the kitchen was great for breaks from the sun. The grounds were very clean and tidy and there are bicycles for rent for cheap! There was access to the beach right across the road (be careful to watch for drivers while crossing there are a lot of dangerous drivers) and it is a perfect place for a family to stay! Thanks Tom!
