“Salsa Night! Best food in Tulum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013

My husband and I took the advice of a stranger and visited La Zebra's on Salsa night. Word to the wise - MAKE a reservation. We were lucky that we arrived early and were dressed well enough they let us in. I don't mean - suit and tie - it's a casual place. But, they don't want folks looking like rif-raf in their restaurant (at least on Salsa night). I watched them turn away - tons of people after we arrived who did not have reservations. Now, with that said. You must eat here - best fish ever! We had one of the specials for that night - whole fish with rice and beans. The mojitos are to die for - made with fresh sugar cane and mint. Atmosphere is phenomenal! They had live music and people dancing on the outdoor patio. I don't Salsa - but this is the night when all the locals who can Salsa their hearts out go out. DO IT! :)

“Fabulous breakfasts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013

We stayed at La Zebra Sept 4-13 for our son's wedding. We loved La Zebra and certainly one of the highlights was Lina's Mexican Kitchen. Not only was the setting fantastic with a glorious view of the beach and the ocean with a nice breeze through the open doors, but each morning breakfast was excellent. There are many choices on the menu, and eggs done in a variety of ways were both delicious and a treat for the eyes. We tried most of them. Portions were large; so much so that often lunch as we were out and about for the day wasn't necessary. Baskets of fresh, warm tortillas (made on the spot), fresh fruit, salsas, coconut bread, and perfect coffee made for great starts to each day. The staff at this restaurant are efficient and friendly. Aside from Lina herself, there are people like Berza, Santiago, Ramone, Jose and so many others who remembered our names and made us feel like family each day. Our son Jim has a disability and the staff always welcomed him, and made a point to make him feel comfortable. They even tried to help us practice our Spanish. And they did so not in that 'I'm being nice to get a tip' manner, but in a genuine friendly 'we're happy to see you this morning' way. They also catered to our son's wedding; the meal was wonderful. A memorable crab-stuffed grouper with such attentive service. It felt like everyone at the restaurant was family, too. We've been home for a few weeks now and actually miss our mornings at Lina's Mexican Kitchen.

“Decent food but better to be had elsewhere in the area.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

We went for the 'Mexican feast' which was $250 MXN a head. It involved various dishes of meats, fish, shrimp, vegetables and sauces, a big pot of melting cheese and tortillas. The food was decent but there was a ridiculous mount of it. I don't like to leave food but for two people there was just too much so I was stuffed by the end of the meal. It would have been better if the portions had been a bit smaller and the price a little lower.

You could have a late breakfast, skip lunch and then come here for an ealry dinner and then the feast would be perfect although there are places in town that serve similar food for a fraction of the price. A lot of the places along the beach are comparitively expensive but then you are paying for the setting and the convenience of eating near your accomodation.

We ended up renting bicycles and going into town for some meals and had some great meals that cost next to nothing.

I had a blast at the Sunday Salsa night and went back a couple of days later for a late night dinner cuisine. The ceviche verde was delicious!
