Description: Located right on the stunning Tulum beach, La Zebra is dedicated to fresh, delicious modern Mexican beach cuisine. And our bar features fresh juices, smoothies and a range of now famous cocktails (try our fresh sugar cane juice mojitos, or the La Zebra margarita with fresh pineapple juice and a hint of ginger). Sunday nights we have a salsa dance party with live Cuban salsa band....So come dance under the stars with us!

“Gorgeous beach, two friendly servers, lousy food, small drinks!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

La Zebra Cantina sounded like it was made to order—words such as "local" and "organic" always warm my Bay Area foodie soul, and what adult beverage consumer's heart wouldn't skip a beat upon reading about cocktails made with fresh pressed sugar cane juice from an antique hand crank?! And yes, the cocktails (and mocktails, for our under age and non drinking peeps) were sensational in composition and flavor. They were also, as mentioned in other reviews, surprisingly (and, um, cheaply) scant. As in really, reeeaally small. The woman who greeted us initially was sweet, as was one waiter who took over breifly when she disappeared on break. The other staff however, stared disdainly at us in the way that usually only happens to our post-hipster now living in the suburbs for the good schools family when we enter a new establishment in Oakland sans skinny jeans, chuck taylors, beanies, and copious body art. Okay, we may not have multiple piercings but we're not wearing Jimmy Buffet shirts & socks with tevas either, lighten up, dude! And the food...the food was awful. Awful! My dreams of tasty fish tacos and delicious beverages on the beach were dashed in the first bite. Luckily, the friendly initial server graciously said we could use the loungers even though we weren't guests of the cabanas since it was low season with minimal occupancy. The beach was so spectacular I would have eaten canned peas served by John Boehner to spend the day there so, it was 100% worth it. My husband and I spent our childhoods in the Philippines, have lived in Thailand and Hawaii and traveled extensively—we know our beaches. Tulum Beach is up there with the best we've been to, and it's worth the haughty attitude to grab a drink at La Zebra if they'll let you on the beach. But eat before you go and stick to the smoothies. I prefer to leave positive reviews and, everyone (and place) can have a bad day, possibly there was something going on that day that we couldn't know about to explain the disappointing reception and cuisine. As it was, food and attitude garnered one star, bonus star for the two friendly staff members and groovy jungle chic vibe, not enough stars out there for the beach but, this isn't a review of a beach!

“Second time a disappointment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013 via mobile

Were in Tulum 5 yrs. ago and this was our go-to restaurant. Food was cold and a very small Mojito was $12 this time. So sad as we rushed there our first night back and came away disappointed at food and expensive (and small) drinks.

“Pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

We came across this restaurant through trip advisor, when we asked our hotel, they didn't give it much props but we decided to give it a try. I had the shrimps LA zebra and my partner had the chicken la zebra style- delicious, light and flavoursome. We also had a speciality dessert. We weren't that hungry but they had a set menu for $250 MXN that sounded amazing and we wish we had the stomach space. The restaurant was full and staff were lovely and having a great time. There is salsa music on Sunday night which is very popular which we missed but sounds awesome!

“Clean, Professional”

While the food was rather unexciting but very freshly prepared and plated, the live salsa and scene was to die for. Good stuff!

“Very fun atmosphere, great food and better tequila!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

La Zebra is owned by the same person who owns Mezzanine and if you have not eaten at Mezzanine or "hung out" and had drinks and soaked up the view you need to go there too. La Zebra sits on the prettiest stretch of beach in Tulum and the decor is worth the trip alone- Tequila bar is very cool and we had a shot that was $20 bucks- Mexican food is good and creative and on Sunday nights they have salsa night which is where the locals come to show off their dancing skills and it is kind of the place to be on Sundays- We love staying on this strip as we were at Casa La Luna and then walking to different places at night along this gorgeous beach. It really doesn't let you down no matter which way you go on the beach.
