If you order anything, order the arrachera. This is a serious meat for serious meat eaters. Prices aren't bad either.

Judging by the crowd every time I go, this place has a good thing going. Great food at great prices not to mention a really nice staff. Marco (the owner) is also the head waiter and he does a great job of servicing every table while his staff keeps food moving out of the kitchen and the drinks flowing. The arracherra special is a go to for me, I love the combo of steak and chorizo with potato and grilled cactus. A real hidden gem is the salsa selection, they are unique and totally different than what other places are serving.

Hey folks,

I dined twice in this side street restaurant, and I really had high quality food, I loved it. El Asadero is located in a side street of the main avenida (in walking distance), to me it looked liked a former car garage (big entrance gate - you can sit inside or on the street). The interior is really well done, everything very clean and you can watch the cooks prepare your food as the grill place is inside the restaurant (don't worry, no smoke or odeur will hassle you :-) ).
Service is fast and friendly (the owner also speaks English, but some spanish words never hurt :-))

All main dishes come with tortilla chips starters. I took the chicken breast and the 300 g steak. Meat + side dishes well done. Nothing to worry.

El Asadero does not serve alcoholic drinks! But why not try a lovely Horchata :-)
The place is designed to be a bar / watering hole, it just serves marvellous food. GO FOR IT.

Fritz

Unfortunately we discovered this little place only on our last evening in Tulum. Very easygoing, cheap place, but clean and typical. We had their special arrachera plate, two servìngs of tacos ( you get three), a mixed vegetables plate, dessert, water and three coffees and we paid 600 pesos, propina included. Nice music ! Meat very tender and succulent! Kind service!

As you enter Tulum Pueblo from the north, take a right at the second light onto Satellite Norte and do a U-Turn at about the third street. On your right find the diamond-shaped yellow street sign that has a bull on it, and below it the name El Asadero. Don't look for the sign on the unpretentious building, it is tiny. The wait staff are very attentive and the food is awesome. We each ordered the Arrachera dinner which is under $20USD, with a steak that is grilled BBQ style and delicious, served with tortillas, three wonderful sauces, a sausage, grilled nopales cactus (I live in Santa Fe, NM, and have them all over my property, and never knew that grilled nopales have such a nice citrus-y taste) and veggies and your choice of grilled potato or onion. Take cash (US or pesos), they don't take cards, because this is a place where the locals eat. It is open to the street, which is nice in the evening. Nos gusto mucho!
