“Very lovely host, loved the breakfast”
Reviewed June 8, 2012

Aerolito is a nice, safe, clean place off the beaten path for sure. The hostess is lovely, she is very kind and cooks a great breakfast and is very knowledgeable. She even let us borrow her bikes, let us try her coconuts, and gave us a map of Tulum while we were there. The breakfast is wonderful (try the chili) and the garden is beautiful with wild geckos and birds. It is a jungle paradise if you are OK with roughing it a bit...just be careful going in the hot wet season as it was a bit intolerable without air conditioning and the mosquitoes in Tulum are relentless. Ariana who owns the place was nice enough to provide us drinking water, had mosquito netting, and mosquito repelling incense but it is definitely uncomfortable being eaten alive in the swampy heat. I think if we had come during the dry season we would have enjoyed our time a lot more...we really did appreciate her hospitality and it was not the fault of aerolito that the weather and bugs were so rough but it did color our experience. We stayed in Rincon precisio which is nice with an outer patio and a bathroom outside the room --one note though my boyfriend is 6'3" and he barely fit in the double beds so just be wary if you are tall that it will be difficult to sleep.

If you like down to earth and healthy food, this is the place. Ariane is a perfect host. Her place is one of a kind. If you are a person who likes resorts then stop reading. If you are a person who wants to experience the culture, then stay here. Ariane treated us like family. She gave us great advice on where to go to eat and the places to see. I love her style and the way she presented her place. We stayed in the Tree house. You have your own kitchen and bathroom downstairs from your bedroom. I loved every moment we were there. It was my favorite place to stay in Mexico. Can't wait to go back and stay there again.

Ariane treated us like family, spent hours with us, advising us about what to see and do and preparing a delcious creative breakfast. Imagine good coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, ripe papaya or pineapple or melon, tasty yogurt, freshly toasted bread with butter, honey, jelly, cream cheese, roasted tortias, assorted homemade salsas, hot eggs right off the skillet just how you like them or if you let her surprise you, it will amaze you. Ripe avocado, hearty cereal, more of everything served in her homey kitchen or brought to your table. But go to the kitchen-- it's so much more fun!
The location is perfect: close to the beach, the cenotes (fresh water sink holes for swimming), the main street with all the services, banks, post office, stores, varied restaurants, entertainment and music like salsa, flamenco, jazz, mariachis, regae, African etc.. She has WIFI, but there are many Internet cafes also. Ask her where to go out for dinner or where to buy the best fried fish you've ever tasted for about 20 Pesos! Rent one of her bikes and ride around town for a tour, a day at the beach, or to visit the many snorkeling spots to see turtles, tropical fish, coral reefs etc. Let Ariane advise you how to avoid paying for the expensive tours and instead discover things for yourself on your own time. We were on a tight budget and yet were able to do so much. She has great knowledge of the area and Mexico in general, having traveled much herself. Her two children are very pleasant and helpful too. Even if you want to hang out at home and relax, you won't be bored. Chop down some coconuts and drnk the milk right out with a straw, make a fire, sleep in the hammic, read in the shade, or offer to help with any of her chores or home maintenance. It's an oasis of artistic beauty (she paints!) shells, coral, teak, flowers, birds and the perfect mix of sun and shade. We booked 3 nights and ended up staying two and a half weeks! And there is still so much we didn't do. There is occasionally some noise at night, but a good pair of earplugs and a couple shots of good tequila will do you wonders on those few nights. Or go out and join the party. We loved Ariane and Aerolito and hope to return soon!
