So I almost don't want to share this review and spread the word about Luv Tulum... but oh well :) First of all, this is a completely authentic, natural, all green (solar-power charges) and beyond cute little hotel on the beach in Tulum. I fell in love with this place: it is quite different from any hotel I stayed at before (it reminds of a "Robinson Crusoe cottage by the water). There was not much in the room, except for cabinets and huge king size bed.. the cottage was made of stone and had palm leaves on the roof :) really romantic. We woke up each morning to the sea waves and bird songs. Staff was super helpful. However the best surprise was the restaurant in Luv Tulum, located steps away from our cottage. The first night rained a lot so we reluctantly decided to eat at the restaurant. Oh wow, thank god it rained and we ended up at Luv Tulum's restaurant. The food was extraordinary, beyond expectations... actually it was so good that we ate at the restaurant breakfast, lunch and dinner for all our stay. I mean, why change when we found this little gem, right? The owner Andrea recommended all the specials, and made sure each time we tried the best food. I loved the lobster risotto, local tequila, tuna sandwiches and all the food the Mayan chef prepared for us. Great, would go back in a heart-beat.

Breezy location on the beach, lovely clean room (Mar), no mosquitoes, sunny, friendly, beautiful, with a good restaurant. A constant breeze kept things comfortable all day and night. We tried a few restaurants in the area and the one at Luv Tulum compared favorably for quality and price. Great fish dishes. We did not have a rental car so we rented bikes one day to the ruins (9km one-way), which was a lot of fun, and we hired a local bird guide for a birding outing (expert Alberto Cen Caamal). The one road is very busy, tricky to walk or bike on, but everyone does. Taxis are plentiful. You can walk on the beach for kilometers. Bring plenty of cash (pesos, but US dollars also work in a lot of places) as the closest ATM is a 20 minute walk one-way and is frequently broken. The town of Tulum, with more ATM options, is 9km away. Bring a flashlight. The night stars are amazing. See below for room selection info. This is in a location where electricity can be spotty, there is no A/C, the water pressure is poor, and they have to truck in drinkable water. But the friendly helpful staff combined with the locale made none of that matter. We had a blast.

Room Tip: Upper-floor rooms on the beach are the best for ocean breeze, view, and quiet. We stayed in the Mar...

This was our second visit to Luv Tulum, having thoroughly enjoyed Easter there I recommended it to my brother and his girlfriend who also took a room (Nube). It was good the first time, but the hotel is now getting all the small details right. Location is second to none, on this (the best) stretch of beach, staff and atmosphere are as warm and friendly as before, but the hotel have somehow managed to add a finesse that has somehow elevated it to a level that I hadn't expected.Difficult to say what it was without sounding too anorak but my 12 year old daughter summed it up nicely whist polishing off her third chocolate milkshake of the day, she said "I don't know why it's better....it just is!!!"

Room Tip: All the rooms are on the beach

Our suite (Nube) must be one of the "best kept secret" hideaways on the Caribbean. Gazing out over the sea through the wall of windows was like being on our own private yacht. Everything this type of hotel should be. Charming, sexy, good value !!!

We stayed in Luv Tulum for 10 days beginning the end of November 2012 and had a wonderful relaxing vacation. We were very happy with our room which was directly on the beach (Sol) had a very comfortable bed, was spotlessly clean. There were no mosquitos, the beach was beautiful and well kept. The electricity worked perfectly except for a couple of small breaks which lasted no more than a few minutes. The staff was friendly and very helpful, both in the hotel and the restaurant where the comprehensive menu was also expanded to include really anything you felt like eating. We enjoyed good wine, some surprisingly good Mexican wine, great beer and of course the wonderful margaritas. We had our own car and so tried some other restaurants on the tulum road but were really happier in our hotel. This part of Tulum is relatively unspoiled with a lack of the horrible intrusive anonymous all inclusives which fill up the road out of Cancun and which leave the impression that you could be in any country, so divorced are they from Mexico. There are a couple of more expensive hotels which are small but don't remotely capture the Mexican ambience which we were looking for. We would definitely return to this bit of paradise. By the way renting a car for 10 days was cheaper than taking a taxi to the airport one way - it also allowed us to visit the Sian Kian Biosphere on a couple of occasions with the incredible wildlife which we love. We also were able to visit Akumal and swim with the turtles, visit cenotes near the Coba ruins. We have been to Mexico many times and have done the ruins in the past but they too are definitely worth a visit.

Room Tip: We were in Sol but we thought we could be in any room really as they were all close to the beach and...

My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary here, and it was by far one of the best vacations we've had. It was perfect for us - but it's not for everyone. If you like TV, air conditioning, your hair dryer, and big, traditional resorts, this is not for you.

We stayed one night in Arena and 3 nights in Mar. Try to book one of the larger rooms - especially on the 2nd level -- Mar was amazing!! The room was beautiful, rustic, and romantic.
You truly feel like you're getting away when you stay here. I loved that there were no TVs. I loved that you could not use an iron or hairdryer. And I loved that the rooms were literally on the beach.

The restaurant was fantastic - everyone that we met there was so friendly and welcoming and the food was fresh, simple and delicious. Our favorite dinner was one night where we ate the lobster that we'd watched come fresh off the fisherman's boat a few hours earlier. And the atmosphere in the restaurant, with the candles and the sound of the waves and ocean breeze, was amazing.

Our stay at Luv Tulum was one of the few vacations that we've said "we're definitely coming back!!".

Room Tip: The Arena room was ok, fine, but the larger rooms esp. up on the 2nd level, like Mar, are amazing!

Everywhere you go it's all about the people - the staff was really really great - both hotel & restaurant. The beach area is so beautiful that you'll end up with photos from paradise :-) And there were no mosquitos - we walked 1km up north and got eaten in another restaurant bu them there. But non in Luv Tulum somehow.

At first we spent 4 days in Mar and then extended our stay for 2 nights in Agua. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the view in Mar is unbelieveable. Also the sound of the waves... As we stayd there 6 nights finally some things started to bother us a little - it also suprised ourselves as the first days felt incredible. It is eco-hotel and so there are some things - no proper lights in the rooms - just 1 small tiny lamp - as it gets dark 6-7pm you have to read with flashlight. Also the running water was not fresh and in one room the shower was working properly but the sink faucet not. In another room vice versa - just drops pressing through the shower but sink ok. So in 6 days you start to miss proper freshwater shower and lights in the evening. Other than that it's perfect. The photos speak for themselves. And thanks from us to the staff for a nice stay.
