“Great value and very convenient location”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

My wife and I stayed here for two nights during our honeymoon in the state of Quintana Roo. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast at the restaurant was a great start to the day because of its convenience. Nice, quiet corner location only two blocks from the main thoroughfare and about three blocks to the bus station.

We would stay here again without hesitation.

My husband and I enjoyed every moment of our stay at Maison Tulum. Besides the fact that it was a complete bargain, at about $55.00 a night, including a continental breakfast, it was clean and we felt completely welcome by staff. If you want to get the real feel of Mexico, then this place may be for you, too. Only discomfort, for me was the bed. Too hard. It did not, however, bother my husband at all.

We stayed at Maison Tulum in mid February of this yr and the value for the accommodations we stayed
in was excellent. I would recommend this place over and over again and in fact we are planning
a return visit next February. The owner Sleeman and his wife were absolute gems!

If you are looking for a good value, ensuite room with air-con & TV in Tulum town, then can recommend Maison Tulum. Did have to switch the fridge off as it was making such a noise in the night. Lovely cafe/bakery on site for breakfast. Also very convenient for the ADO bus station if you're travelling independently like I was. However, since you have to use taxis or a bike to get anywhere other than the awful Ave.Tulum, I would stay on the beach if I ever went back.

Room Tip: I asked for a quiet room and was upgraded to the penthouse (wouldn't have wanted to pay any more...

A lovely spot on a side street 2 blocks from the main avenue. Maison Tulum is one of those places you step into and know you found a great place. We actually did not stay in the hotel but we frequented the restaurant for breakfast and for coffee breaks. The pastries are wonderful and so is the fruit salad w/granola & honey. All is fresh, tasty and carefully prepared.
And don't forget to pet the charming Wanda - the house dog.

Maison Tulum is a cozy, small, nice hotel in Tulum Pueblo.
We arrived late in the evening, which was no problem at all for the owner and were very happy to arrive to a clean, comfortable room. Given that we were used to rather chilly temperatures back in London and the heat in Mexico was like a wall when we walked out of the airport, we were particularly happy about fan AND A/C in the room.
The room had a safe and a fridge (both very important to us) and was cleaned every day.
I'd like to especially mention both the atmosphere and the food in this hotel. Unfortunately, dinner isn't on offer (anymore?). There isn't much to the breakfast included in the room price, it consists of bread, butter, jam, coffee and fruit juice. However, if you love a good breakfast, spend a couple of pounds and order something extra - you won't be disappointed! We tried several breakfasts, from traditional Mexican ones to fresh fruits with yoghurt and cereal and every single one that we tried was delicious! Also, if you're on a budget and don't want to spend a lot of money on food at the considerably more expensive beach restaurants, get yourself a sandwich to take away from the bakery in Maison Tulum. Freshly prepared and yummy yummy!
As for the ambience, the entire hotel has a unique style which makes you feel comfortable from minute one - also don't miss out on the roof terrace, which is great to enjoy a cold drink in the evening (BYO or get a fruit juice in the bakery - not sure about the opening hours though).
The quiet, non-crowded beach club at "La Vita e Bella" is a dream! There is a restaurant directly at the beach and the beach isn't nearly as crowded and loud as the public beach nearby. However, it should have been mentioned by Maison Tulum that the sunbeds are 50 MXP pp or alternatively you can spend 300 MXP in the restaurant. Fair enough if you know it beforehand - a bit annoying if you're told so on arrival.
The bike hire directly in the hotel is also very useful as the beach is a couple of kilometers away from the hotel.
Altogether a very enjoyable stay and should we be back in Tulum, we'd be happy to stay at Maison Tulum again!
