“Excellent!!!”
Reviewed October 12, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Had an absolutely wonderful stay here with our family of 7 including two young children. The premises were gorgeous, lots of space to accommodate all, and a well-stocked kitchen that we were able to cook almost all our meals during our week long stay. We hardly went anywhere else, just kayaked all around the bay for excellent snorkeling, and swimming a lot in the pool too. We saw plenty of sealife (turtles, sting rays, lobster, and lots and lots of fish). The staff were pleasant, kept the house clean, and cooked a few delicious meals for us too. We would definitely recommend this place to others.

“Everything Our Family and Friends Had Hoped For”
Reviewed August 15, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

My family of 4 along with 2 of my children's friends and mother-in-law (total of 7) just arrived home from a week long vacation at Casa Tortuga. We were a bit concerned about the weather at this time of year (early August) but were blessed with sunny days and only one very short rain shower. The home has everything our family needed and would be perfect for up 10 people. I loved the unique layout of the rooms which combined with the various outdoor spaces (pool / beach / eating area / veranda) allowed for everyone to interact together or have some private time if needed. Samuel was simply fantastic - a true gem of a person, so welcoming and accommodating, always checking in to see if there was anything we needed. Both Samuel and Norma were a huge part of making this a truly relaxing vacation and were tireless in their maintenance of the property. We got out early in the day for activities and spent afternoons at the pool. Snorkeling at the reef is well worth the effort to paddle to the buoy. The location is excellent for various Tulum activities - we enjoyed the Dos Ojos Cenote, Coba and Tulum Ruins, swimming with the turtles at Akumal Beach (bring your own snorkeling gear and save some funds), and a beach day at Playa Paraiso (more reasonable prices than near the Tulum Beach Hotel Strip). Cheryl and Dean provided very detailed directions, but we still missed the "retourno" off highway #307 as we arrived in the dark. Please also note the access road is a bit rough during our visit (Samuel advised it is due for grading) - but is typical of any non-major road in the region. We arrived to a wonderfully prepared meal by Samuel and Norma. After eating out for a couple of meals, we realized how much we preferred staying at Casa Tortuga and ended up asking Samuel & Norma to prepare the balance of our dinners up until our departure - reasonably priced, restaurant quality preparation, all from the comfort of home - highly recommended. Overall, we could not have asked for a better vacation, all of us were terribly sad to leave but have taken away fantastic memories of Samuel, Norma, Soliman Bay, and Casa Tortuga. We truly hope to return some day.

Thank you so much for the kind words! We are truly happy you and your family enjoyed our home. I will be sure to tell Samuel and Norma what a good job they are doing, we are very grateful to have such good people. We hope you will come back again soon.
note: The home owners on the Bay pay to grade the road every year in fall after rainy season.

All the best, Cheryl & Dean

“We loved our 2 weeks in paradise”

Casa Tortuga was the perfect location for our nature loving family ( 2 adults, 2 teens). Cheryl, the owner, was great to work with. She was very responsive to our many questions as novice travelers, as well as being completely new to Mexico. The whole process was easy, helpful and friendly.
The house was spacious and the location was perfect for our interests.
We loved beach combing and snorkeling in the bay. We saw pelicans, egrets,
flamingos, sting rays, sand dollars, hermit crabs, geckos and brightly colored fish right in our 'front yard' (or on our evening walkabouts with a flashlight!). Bring water shoes as the crushed coral sand is rough at first and there are spots with lots of rocks.
Due to it's location (last house in a very upscale bay) and the way the house is situated, Casa Tortuga is very private and yet felt extremely safe. The pool was perfect for cooling off ( the ocean is too warm for that! ) Samuel ( the caretaker and chef) keeps it clean and fresh with as little chlorine as possible so it was lovely to swim in. Anywhere you position a lounge chair you have a gorgeous view!
When we chose to go on an adventure we found we were very centrally located. We visited Grand Cenote, Casa Cenote, Yaxmull Cenote, Tulum Beach,
Akumal Beach and Yal-Ku Lagoon. Every cenote and beach is different so you could come to Casa Tortuga for years and experience new and amazing things. We also enjoyed shopping on the Beach Road and in downtown Tulum. Everything was under 25 mins from the house!
We also made the very good decision to have Samuel take over making our breakfasts and dinners.
What a wonderful treat not to have to shop, cook and clean up for our entire vacation. The meals were wonderful and Samuel was amazing at accommodating
our dietary concerns and keeping in a budget we could manage.
We so enjoyed our morning and evening visits with Samuel and Norma. It was a chance to try out a little Spanish, learn more about Mexico, and have the good fortune to get to know two lovely people. We could not have picked a more perfect spot and would highly recommend Casa Tortuga and the lovely folks associated with it.

After receiving very clear driving directions from the owners, we arrived late in the evening to a delicious, authentic Mexican dinner cooked by the caretakers Mauricio, Samuel and Norma.
Hearing the waves lapping up on the beach directly in front, and seeing the clear stars help set the tone for the rest of the week. We recommend starting the day with a morning coffee on the upper patio, listening to the birds sing while enjoying afternoon pool side margaritas (made by Samuel... the best we had), and the late day sun lasted until well into the evening. Samuel was always available to offer help, advice and recommendations when needed, all the while respecting our privacy. He is truly a kind, cheerful and genuine person. We made great use of the wonderful outdoor kitchen, and very much appreciated the spaciousness of the villa. With four private bedrooms and bathrooms, this is an ideal villa for large groups. The restaurant down the beach served the best fried whole fish and is definitely worth the short five minute walk down the beach. Ziggy's in Tulum was another one our our favorite lunch spots with it's great food, drinks and amazing white sand beach. We were impressed with the owners open communication and the information left in the villa most helpful.
Thank you for providing us with this wonderful holiday experience!

“It doesn't get much better than this!”

My husband and I, plus 3 other couples of family and friends spent a lovely week at this delightful villa on the beach. Sadly, the weather was a tad less than perfect, but no matter--there were so many things to do around town, and the amazing upper balcony and lower patio were nicely protected. The 4 bedrooms and bathrooms were perfect for our group, but just be aware that one bedroom does not have its own attached bath. This was not a problem for our group. The highlight of our stay has to be the incredible hospitality of Samuel and Norma who took the best care of us for the entire week! We had three dinners prepared for us, and they were all divine! The bananas flambé was quite a show!! The happy hours were great, too. The coco locos will be remembered for a very long time!! Yum!!

We arrived late at night, so it was really nice having a few things stocked in the kitchen and having Mauricio greet us with a welcome tour was wonderful. Samuel had great suggestions of things to do. The wind was an issue during our week, so we couldn't kayak and snorkel off of our beach, but we found some great cenotes inland and did a trip to the lagoon in Akumal, which was great. Highly recommend checking out some cenotes. The ruins at Coba' are worth the trip (be sure to rent bikes), and also the Tulum Ruins which are just a few minutes from the villa.

Casa Tortuga is perfect for 3 or 4 couples. The large indoor and outdoor kitchens were perfectly comfortable for 8 people. We spent many late nights playing games around both tables. If you're looking for an easy, relaxing place for a group getaway, this could be the place for you!

“Great, Relaxing Vacation!!!”
Reviewed February 1, 2016 for a stay in January 2016

What a fantastic vacation!!! Casa Tortuga was just what the doctor ordered. We had the most relaxing vacation we've had in years. First, let me say that Soliman Bay is THE prettiest, most private beach there is south of Cancun. We came to the same bay 10 years ago and not much has changed. You have the beach to yourselves at most times. There isn't any resorts close, so the people you do see are just like you, renting a house and wanting some relaxing beach time without the hordes around. Secondly, the house was just right for us. The pool area, the deck that is perfect for sunrises, the hammock's (right by the water) for reading, the kitchen for preparing food... everything. Thirdly, the service was out of this world!! My wife and I have traveled to many places around the world and I can tell you that the service that Samuel and Norma provided was second to none. We had a meal prepared for us the first night and it was so good that we used their cooking service every night except their night off! That, we had never done before. The food was better (and cheaper) than anything else we ate the whole trip. We even had the grouper twice. My hat is off to this vacation. I would recommend it highly!!

“BEST VACATION EVER!”
Reviewed January 14, 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We stayed at Casa Tortuga with a group. There were 7 of us in total.
We had a great time and it had all of the amenities that we needed.
Absolutely loved the view of the ocean!
We had a car, so it made getting into town for supplies and the occasional dinner very easy, but mostly we stayed on site for the 9 days.
We spoiled ourselves 2 nights by taking advantage of the in house chef service and had the best Lobster dinner! Mauricio also makes the best Chicken cordon Blue I have had in any restaurant. Oh, and don't get me started on his homemade marguerite's! Definatley a MUST try! This service is so amazing and quite reasonable Its a nice added feature to this property.
There is a small beach restaurant about a 3 minute walk down the beach, which is also a nice place to eat lunch. Their grilled fish was fabulous. (Chemico's)
Our maid Norma was awesome. She did a great job with our rooms, and we opted for the full package, so she did the dishes and tidied the kitchen areas too.
Samuel took care of cleaning the pool and sweeping up the patios etc everyday and was so friendly. We felt so welcomed.
The property was gorgeous! The house and bedrooms were very clean and well maintained. Everything was in great working condition and the owners were very easy to deal with.
They send us some very good information prior to arrival, so we had a very good idea of what to expect when we got there. They were quick to reply to any questions we had during the booking process, They were very accommodating.
There was a binder in all the rooms with information about the property and WIFI info etc.
The location was great, because we were in a secure community on Soliman Bay. It was only about a 15 minute drive from Tulum & There was a very nice Cenote within walking distance of the Villa (15 - 20 minutes). We kayaked into the bay, and snorkled right out in front of the property. There were tons of different fish and coral to see. So cool, only a few minutes away from the shore line.
We walked the beach everyday and lounged by the pool all afternoon , with the occasional siesta in the ocean side hammocks...
What a great holiday, probably one of the best ones we have had in Mexico ever.
Can't wait to go back!!!
