My wife and I stayed at Be Tulum in October of 2011 and had a wonderful time. We stayed in the floor level room (with mini dipping pool) directly behind the resort's main pool (ocean view). We loved the tranquil location and will be going back again in the Fall of 2013. If one doesn't know and appreciate the Hotel zone on the ocean in Tulum, one could be disappointed, as it's very different than the big hustle and bustle of an AI resort. This is not All Inclusive-ville; and, is more the complete opposite, with very little human density. Be Tulum is a rare space with brilliant design and attention to layout to give all rooms their own sense of privacy and lush vegetation around the direct outer room area and common areas. The beach layout and the day beds on the beach are a big pull for my wife and to truly relax; the reason we actually chose Be. We always had wonderful service from the restaurant/bar staff when we were on the beach or eating at the restaurant.
The room was well equipped with the bare necessities; however, not nearly enough space to put our clothes or other bric-a-brac that we travel with. Needs one or two more side tables or a chest or drawers to suffice for a multi-day stayover. Weather was wonderful all the days we were there, so we took advantage of swimming in their incredibly beautiful and clean white sand beach ocean. Truly Corona-Advertisement experience and the best part of the whole place. The last night we were there was unusually cold, so they created a fire pit fire on the beach for folks to hang out and drink warm cocktails by the ocean.
We personally like the pace of the Tulum hotel zone. Visitors should be aware that this is an ecologically controlled area, with no grid electricity and trucked in potable water (different: i.e. can't run 2 hairdryers in your room at once-too much load from the generators). Places like Be have to work 2 times as hard to get things done that would otherwise be a snap in a big resort in Playa del Carmen, and that's the beauty of what you get there: unspoiled beach coast with no huge buildings or night club noise. But, that is the charm of it's tranquil environment. Much less density, no 500-person buffets, but also no hot night air conditioning in your room at most resorts here. With all that said, Be excels at it all; which is why we will be back.
FYI: There was no wifi and limited cel signal to near the lobby or on the top of the bar deck... you're literally near the last place before the biosphere starts a mile further down the road, so cel signal is tough. My wife enjoyed me not having cel signal!
We were there Oct 2011, but that was not available to select in the forms part here
