“Again, Be Tulum is the Best”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2012

I believe that Be Tulum is the best boutique hotel in the Tulum Beach Hotel Zone. I have been to other hotels there over the years and I love the architecture, the rooms, the grounds, the food, the staff, the beach...in short, I have no complaints with this hotel. As a plus, they offered a discount because we were returning guests. That said, my husband said he will not go back unless they replace the bed. It was very difficult for him to sleep there because the bed was so hard. This was our second stay at Be Tulum, and we stayed in Room #20 both times (the ocean front room with the roof top plunge pool that is closest to the beach). I was okay with the bed, but agree that it could be more comfortable (even just a simple foam matress topper would help). That is the only reason that the rating is 4 stars and not 5.

Now, a word about Tulum in general. We spoke to a local realtor and evidently there is a lot going on there with disputes over the ownership of the lands, so many of the properties are in different states of construction - some are incomplete and no work is being done, especially the more south you go. Unfortunately, this affects the quality of the beaches as many places are not actively maintaining their properties and beach fronts. Also, this was the first trip where we saw local "beach vendors" - there were not that many, but it made the beach feel less exclusive than prior years. Simply put, I believe that there has been a big population increase (some of the restaurants, like Casa Jaguar and Hartwood, had waits of an hour or more). At the more popular restaurants (those mentioned and Posada Margherita), I suggest you show up at 6:00 sharp to make sure you get first seating, otherwise plan on waiting at least an hour for the second seating. I have always loved Tulum and I hope that the property issues are resolved soon and that the area does not get too over crowded, but the latter may be inevitable.

Room Tip: Rooms closest to the beach are best - up stairs are lighter

Let me just say right up front and be done with this: If you're going to put out $500 a night, you'd better just relax and go with it all. The complainers (if you choose to read their reviews) are people who could never be satisfied. This is simply the most lovely, well-planned and executed property you can imagine, from the architecture to the lighting to the service and food. Wild, but comfortable. Quiet, but vibrant. Relaxing and invigorating (by that I mean the water...oh lord, that water is amazing). I've never stayed anywhere like this hotel. Exceptional in every way.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, although I heard someone ask to be moved closer to the water and away from the r...

We just returned from a week at Be Tulum and it was so relaxing. The staff from servers to maids were all very helpful and would do anything to make your stay enjoyable. The location is absolutely fabulous. The beach is picture perfect with amazing views. One of the huge benefits of the location is that the beach to the north and south are very uncrowded, you feel as if you have it to yourself. The beds on the beach are very nice, just wake up and go throw your towels and beach bag on a bed before breakfast and then enjoy! We ate at Be most meals, with a few meals elsewhere and their food is excellent. I would say the pricing is very similar to all the hotels along the beach. We stayed in room A17, and I would highly recommend that you upgrade to the arena suite for a couple reasons, one you will be a closer walk to the beach, I'm talking 30 seconds or less, secondly you won't have to worry about having a room remotely close to the road and the noise that comes with it. One tip, you may want to pick up a big bottle of water before you get to Be, we bought 2 1.5l and a 5l bottle just to make sure and it was perfect. The give you at least 4 12oz bottles a day as well. The rooms are spacious and nice, although the lighting is dim but perfectly romantic. The outdoor showers are great. The water is slightly brackish from the shower but its really no big deal. If you need glitz and glamour, with vegas like lighting and a club atmosphere this is not your place (no resort on Tulum beach would be), but if you want privacy, great service, wonderful people, and a perfect beach then this is for you.

Room Tip: Upgrade to an Arena room, they are closer to the beach and you don't have to worry about road no...

Dear "Kirk J",

Thank you for the lovely feedback! You are so right about Tulum not being Las Vegas; quite the opposite, actually!

We hope to see you again soon on this beautiful part of the world!

We tried 3 places in Tulum and really liked this one the most! The location is amazing, food is excellent, drinks are great and service the best we had. It is a bit more expensive than other ressorts, but you also get a little extra in every detail!

Be Tulum is almost at the end of the road and is definately one of the more discreet hotels, a small entrance with a path that leads to the most gorgeous beach.
We were there for 8 days and rarely left, the bar and restaurant are practially on the beach and the food is delicious. Expensive but not more than other restaurants in the area.
We had a problem with the room on the first day which was quickly sorted out and after that it was all great. The beach has some cabanas but they could definately do with more as if the hotel is full it can be a bit of a rush for the shade.
Would also be good for the front desk to give more suggestions on things to do, maybe by sharing experiences of other guests as this information wasnt readily available.

Room Tip: Ask for a rm close to the beach - room 1 to be avoided its awful

2011 was a brutal year for us with family crises and work challenges. What we needed was complete rest, relaxation and pampering in an exquisitely beautiful environment. And we got all that this February at Be Tulum. We will def be returning.

This was the first time we had visited Mexico and we were so glad we chose Be Tulum. From the moment we arrived we knew we were in the right place. The rooms were well designed, the location, although at the far end of Tulum was still only a bike ride away from the local shops and restaurants. Recommendations: take a taxi to the tulum ruins in the morning then take a snorkel trip on playa maya beach. (taxi is only 200 peso)
Take the free bikes and have lunch at mateos.
Have dinner at posada margarita great Italian.
Check out the amazing musicians who played in the bar and the beach in the evening at Be Tulum they created a very special atmosphere.
Take plenty of mosquito spray
Overall we were well looked after by Ana and her staff who are a credit to the hotel.
