“Coco Love”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

We stayed one week in May at Coco and had such a relaxing time. At the time of booking all the beach cabanas were reserved so we stayed in cabana 19 for the first 3 nights which is on the ground and set back from the beach about 75 yards. Then we switched to cabana 20, upstairs which had a view of the Caribbean Sea. Either room is enjoyable! The property is very clean. The shared bathrooms were always tended to. The raked the sand each morning and there were little clay bowels by each cabana to dip your feet and rinse off the sand. Simple attention to detail is what was so comforting about Coco. We loved lounging on the beach on their chaise lounge chairs or in a hammock. There is service from the Italian restaurant in at the front of the hotel that will bring you drinks. The only problem that frustrated us was the slow service from some of the waiters, but then again it's Mexico.

Room Tip: We stayed in cabana 19 for the first 3 nights which is on the ground and set back from the beach abo...

We stayed at the torre 3 which is one of the only 3 rooms with bathroom, it was really great, nice terrace with an amazing view; very nice service.

I was affraid of the other rooms with no bathroom but the common bathrooms were very clean and ample.

The best... The restaurant Juanita Diavola!!! Make sure you try the marinara fettuccini with a focaccia in the top of the plate and the meat lover pizza

My husband and I stayed for a week at Coco Tulum in May. First of all, you cannot beat the prices for Coco. We were very happy with the location and the view. We were in Cabana 2, which we loved! It is one of the 2nd floor cabanas, directly on the ocean. The breeze never had us missing a/c, and we had a lovely view of the beach and water each morning for sunset and each afternoon, as we enjoyed cocktails on our balcony (in fact, there were some afternoons that I actually put on a sweatshirt because I got chilly!).

We looked around at the other cabanas, and it seems that any of the 2nd floor cabanas would get a great breeze and have a good view of the water. Personally, I'd stay away from the bungalows tucked further back in the garden area because you wouldn't have the breeze and it can get pretty stifling hot down there! I was a little leery about having the shared bathroom, but it wasn't too bad at all. The one nice thing about having a cabana in the back is that you are closer to the restrooms.

The restaurant had really good pizza - probably better than some of the pizza we find in the States! While the staff were all very friendly, sometimes the service was slower than desired. I tried very hard to slow myself down, but when wait staff would just walk by you multiple times before stopping to ask if you needed something - it sometimes got frustrating.

Front desk staff were very helpful. They helped us book a day trip to cenotes and Coba, as well as booked a massage for me while my husband was off on an all-day fishing trip.

Most of our days were spent relaxing on the beach (which they clean up each morning), with breaks for dips in the water, food, and/or drinks. The staff even come out to take orders for food and drinks while you are lounging on the beach.

We will happily return to Coco on our next trip to Tulum!!

We spent three nights at coco tulum last week and enjoyed our stay. We stayed in cabana 26 which is close to reception and has its own little garden with a hammock in it.

The accomodation and shared toilets were kept very clean and the whole place has a trendy vibe.

However staying by the beach is expensive, food is 3 times as much as town and so is accommodation. If you are hiring bikes get them from the town for much less, it's a nice cycle back.

Another greatt review for this place! We looked at pretty much every place on the beach in Tulum and wanted a balance of afforability, location and size...and this fit the bill perfectly.
PROS: You CANNOT beat the price for it. We visited friends staying nextdoor and for the same price their place did not compare. We stayed in Cabana 1 which we thought was the best as it was to the side of the grounds so a bit more private, and is there is a cabana upstairs too it meant we had a bit of an awning of cover which was useful for some of the rainshowers we had. The bathrooms were always clean and well maintained, the only issue is the ignorant people who throw toilet paper down the toilet even though asked not too, and signs everywhere. Loved the outdoor shower alcoves too, beautiful to wash the salt and coral off and stare up at the beautiful blue sky.
CONS: The restaurant and "bar". Apparently they got the wrong licence so can't serve alcohol until 7:00pm, so if you want a beer or cocktail with lunch or when on the beach you can't. Also the food was quite bland and the pizza toppings minimal, especially for the price. 70 pesos for 1 scoop of ice cream? Forget it. Many other fabulous restaurants within walking distance. Also, they advertised a tequila tasting all week and then changed the location and didn't announce it, so we all missed out. Also, we were sunbaking and looked up to see a woman wandering around in our cabana. We were shocked and jumped up but noticed a Coco Tulum staff member with her. My husband went up to investigate but they ignored him, he asked what they were doing and they said "design work". I was not comfortable with someone going in my room unannounced, surely this "design work" could've been done in an unattended cabana or waited until we had left.
Other than these few downsides it is a great place to stay and

Room Tip: Cabana 1 was private and to the side of the property. Don't be fooled by the map on the website...

This place was a pleasant surprise, and an absolute steal for the price. We actually ended up moving to this hotel due to red tide at our original place, where we were being charged more than double per night than the cost of CoCo. They are on a wonderful stretch of white sandy beach and turquoise ocean, with plenty of hammocks and beach lounge chairs available for their guests. The restaurant, a pizzeria and full bar called Juanita Diavola, is amazing (we had the house special three times). They also rent bikes here for approx. 150 pesos per 24hrs. We did this several times, and even rode up to the Tulum ruins in about 25 minutes! The cab fare to and from the Pueblo is around 60-70 pesos.

The only potential downside some people would consider are the shared bathrooms for the majority of the property, but honestly, it's really not bad at all. The bathrooms stay clean and well maintained.

For the price, I say you can't beat it.

Overall, an amazing experience, and I would strongly consider returning to Coco Tulum.

After backpacking through Central America for a month we decided to splurge a bot on beachfront accomm and looked at ALL the hotels along the esplinade before dinding this treasure. Ended up staying 2 nights but wish it was more!

I can't fault this place, gorgeous rooms right on the beach front for $79US!! Delicious and well priced meals at the restaurant out front and perfect hospitality from all staff.

Please note that the $79 rooms dont come with private bathroom but the shared bathrooms are amazingly clean with beautiful shells as faucets etc.

Will definitely return, cannot say enough about it :)
