The place was packed when we arrived and overall had expectations of this restaurant.
Service was average, the server was nice enough and he seemed pretty busy but was still able to swing by and get us anything we needed.

I ordered bolognese pasta with fish (filet) fried with garlic. We also had a Pina Colada and Margharita which were mediocre. The fish was super heavy and the bolognese hit the spot. They did the pasta well.

We also got fries, which were bland and I suspect their deep fryer oil was not hot enough because the fries seemed cooked just enough but just not at all crispy. We could not eat any of the fries.

The Ceviche was GREAT, although the onions in the ceviche had been overcooked and thus were too sweet and heavy. Friend of mine ordered steak, which was chewy and not what you want in a steak. Best of luck, El Capitan, I hope you guys work on your food a bit.

We had the seafood platter for two that was around $50 USD. It was a mix of some very good items and some not very good items. One of the fried fish was overcooked, but the octopus dish was excellent. The shrimp and lobster were good, but not excellent. The prices were similar to other places in Tulum. I think I would return, just not get the seafood platter for two.

The place itself does not look special or even a bit "kitsch" but the tasty fish dishes deserve the visit. Try the "filete al ajillo" - even if you are not a garlic-fanatic you will appreciate! The portions are not huge.

We went to El Capitan twice during our stay for food and again for drinks whilst waiting for our ride back to Akumal one day!

The food is incredible - yes the ceviche is amazing (we tried the traditional mixed ceviche and the caribbean ceviche in coconut milk - best ceviche in Quintana Roo!) but the real highlight for me was the shrimp tostada's. I'd recommend this place to anyone - the staff are great, and they do a fantastic happy hour (12pm-5pm!) We were staying in Akumal so found the prices here to be a lot cheaper too.

Tip; local people selling sweets etc come by and sell things to you at your table - don't turn them away! It's so cheap, and we'd have missed out on the best coconut syrup cake if we'd have said no!

Also, ask the staff for a map of Tulum; they have a mostly unbiased list of suggestions (obviously they recommend themselves!!) and it's an entertaining and useful read.

Enjoy!

Stopped off here for a small bite to eat. Seemed popular and we were not disappointed just had some tacos and some drinks. Staff were really nice.
