This place is spectacular! We went as an excursion as part of our cruise to the Western Carribean from Cozumel. This place is a bit far to get to (40 minute boat ride from Cozumel, then a 45 minute bus ride to Tulum), but definitely worth it. When we arrived there are some shops to buy artifacts and souvenirs. Then we got to the actual ruins just a short 10 minute walk away (there's a tram if you don't want to walk). It was beautiful! You can't step onto the ruins because they are being conserved but it's worth learning about the Mayans and how they lived. Then just behind the ruins you can see the breathtaking postcard views of the ocean blue water. It was amazing! The water was fresh and clean. I definitely recommend this place if you visit.

Tulum is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been. It is also one of the hottest places I have ever been! We went here as an excursion from our cruise. The cruise line set up the guided tour. I would recommend taking a tour, I am sure they are all good. Ours was thru Carnival. The tour guides are very informative of the mayan culture, which was very interesting, not to mention that it makes the drive out to the ruins seem shorter! There are iguanas running around everywhere-watch where you step. The ruins are in pretty good shape too. Breathtaking views of the ocean. I have never seen water more beautiful in my life! Highly recommend this trip!!

Few words to describe this beautiful-wonderful paradise. Breathtaking Mayan Palace. All you can expect, beautiful Ruins in a classy sophisticated setting. The Ruins are amazingly situated along the Caribbean Shore, so you not only enjoy the beautiful pyramids but also enjoy the gorgeus, classy, sophisticated, unique settins of the ruins surrounded by a caribbean delight, tropical Palm trees with Coconuts, beautiful greens and an amazing turquois caribbean waters facing the front of the Ruins. Not only the ruins are amazing, the history behind it and the surroundings. If you go, hire a guide, recommended because there is so much interesting history to the Pyramids. A must swim is extremely recommended since the Waters in Tulum are some of the most amazing in the Cancun/Riviera Maya Caribbean Shores. If you're in the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen or Cun. Trip is definitely a must do.. You can purchase the package there or do it like I did, rent a car and drive there, entrance is only 65 pesos, $5.00 american dollars to enjoy such an amazing place... Simply amazing... The place, the surroundings, the vibe in that wonderful place and the prices make of this place a must place to visit..

The Tulum Ruins absolutely beautiful but the beach is the real mccoy. Pack a bathing suit and organize your very own private tour from the hotel that way you can enjoy the beach and walk around as the grounds are quite large. Wear comfortable shoes and carry water. Wiser to visit in the earlier hours or later afternoon as it is quite a hike to the beach. Steps are a challenge but with assistance possible.

I have visited the Tulum ruins twice, Once in 1985 and again last week. The charges were startling.

1985,
The ruins were not roped off and you could climb most of them. The paths were minimal and the steps to the beaches were a bit scary. It was almost if you were seeing what the ruins were like when they were first discovered( minus a few trees and scrub brush) Very little development of the area outside of the entrance.

2011
The ruins are now all roped off and you cannot access any of the buildings. In some aspects, this was and is very important to maintain the remaining carvings and reduce the wear of the stones. The ropes to funnel you through the site with a nice tour. The paths are well marked and much easier to walk on than back in 1985. The views are spectacular and just the historical relevance is awe inspiring.

Make sure to bring your swimsuit to take a dip in the ocean. There are changing rooms in the entrance/exit..
