Description: Located across the beach road from Nueva Vida is Casa Banana Steakhouse, a Tulum dining hot spot. Serving up classic Argentinian style cuisine, the food here is simple, fresh and delicious. For breakfast each morning enjoy made to order coffee, homemade banana bread, and pineapple coconut jam. At night the restraurant gets busy and comes alive with it’s outdoor grill, known as “parilla,” and dishes are cooked over the open fire for all to see. The menu favorites include grilled to perfection steak, fresh caught fish, impressive salads, and a thoughtfully selected wine list. Don’t forget to try the handshaken icy margaritas, too.Open daily breakfast, lunch and dinner. We provide beach service for all guests of the hotel.

“Pricey with appetizers that outshine their entrees.”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

I really found this place charming and attractive. The Argentinian run restaurant is laid out nicely with great drinks ( ginger martini is a must), beautiful and attentive staff, and food that's better than good but not quite great. The whole fish entree felt heavily oiled and hard to eat. The seafood stew was fine but nothing special and the shrimp and calamari in it were overcooked. The flavors were nice but at NYC prices they charge for things they need to deliver perfection. Desserts were boring and forgettable.
Now the appetizers were really delicious. We loved the quinoa salad and the roasted beets. My recommendation is to go there and have drinks (great selection of sophisticated wines and again crazy good ginger martini) and appetizers and skip the entrees.

“Small and Wonderful”

Our food was fresh and perfectly prepared. Our waiter was attentive and informative. The staff treat you with such care and friendliness it creates a comfortable atmosphere for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A bonus when there is live music in the evening

“Nice spot for dinner”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

We had a nice dinner at Casa Banana. Service was very attentive at first. However, it was Friday night and once the restaurant was at capacity, service declined. Thankfully we had ordered our food before the influx because the crowd certainly changed the atmosphere and experience.

“expensive and the prawns were dry, fishy and cold.”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

I just got back from Tulum and had a wonderful time. We stayed at the resort across from Casa Banana and a continental breakfast was included in the price of our room. It was great. Fresh fruit, coffee and fresh baked bread. We decided to have a special dinner there one evening and we were disappointed in the food. My friend had the prawns and they were dried out, fishy and cold. We were amazed because we had heard such great things about this restaurant. The manager came out and apologized and my friend changed the entre to broiled fish which I had too. The fish was Grouper , roasted or fried and the entire fish came. It was boney and not a lot of flesh. The veggies were very tasty as was our asparagas and goat cheese salad. Dessert was creme brulee and the portion was tiny and unremarkable. My friend had a glass of wine and I had a fizzy water. The total bill came to about $100. In Vancouver BC you can get a truly incredible meal for that money. They added an 8% tip to the bill. Sevice was good. I know the speciality of the house is meat and perhaps we would have done better ordering it. I found generally at the beach in Tulum the prices were as high or higher than at home and much higher than the towns on the west coast of Mexico. We had a great meal in Tulum( the town away from the beach ) for less than half the price of Casa Banana. It's really not worth the price.

“Great Food, Cool Vibe”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

My wife and I dined at Casa Banana during a recent stay in Tulum, luckily for us it was near the end of our trip. I say luckily because had we dined there earlier in the trip we might have dined there every night. That would have precluded us from experiencing some of the other fantastic dining options in the area. Highlights? Everything from the excellent margarita, to the incredible tasting asparagus appy. Try it, you won't be sorry.
