WE have benn going to Charlies for over a decade and love what he does with his staff. Authentic Mexican food, amazing atmosphere (no it is not on the beach but Charlie is an artist and supports local artists so worth seeing). All we can say is we love Charlie, what he does and the consistancy he brings to the Tulum food scene. Thanks Charlie for food, local support and all that you do!

I terribly regret not going here earlier! I've driven by it hundreds of times and walked in last night with a group of friends. I was very pleased with the menu and had a tough time deciding but ultimately ordered the chicken breast stuffed with vegetables and covered in homemade mole! It was everything I hoped it would be and more. The chicken breast was cut very thin and came in 3 layers so it allowed each bite to be covered in more and more mole(!!). Beers were 20 pesos (awesome price and very cold, as they should be) and the staff was friendly, responsive and thoughtful. Charlies is officially my go-to spot when eating in Tulum town. Thank you Team Charlies!

Someone mentioned this spot in a Trip Advisor forum for the black bean soup. I love soup, so I felt I had to try it. Not only was the soup great, but all of the dishes were outstanding and the salsa with the chips was a nearly religious experience. So good, in fact, we went for breakfast a couple of days later and asked to buy a quart. Alas, they did not have enough to sell in that amount.

Located very close to the ADO bus terminal, Charlie's has a tropical feel with indoor and courtyard seating and some eclectic decorations. Charlie was the bartender and quite an interesting character. Dinner was on New Year's Eve, so I do not know how frequently Charlie has entertainers, but I suspect he has folks in regularly. On that night, we were surprised and pleased to have two different very talented singer-guitarists as well as a children's group performing Maya dances in traditional attire.

Bonus info: A couple blocks north of Charlie's and on the east side of the road is an excellent spot cooking chicken on an open grill. They seem to only be open in the mornings and afternoons (I think they sell out early and close).

This simple restaurant is very close to the bus terminal, so it's perfect for travellers waiting for their bus. Nice wall decorations giving romantic athmosphere. Tacos with cheese and chorizo are lovely! Low prices.
