We stayed one perfect night at the beautiful hotel El Pez, and the gracious host Mateo made us feel like family instantly. After spending a heavenly week with a large group in a gorgeous rental house nearby (see my review for the exquisite Casa Buena Suerte), my immediate family of three couldn't bear to leave the coast for a night in Valladolid, as we had originally planned. Fortunately, I found El Pez, and we were miraculously able to book two rooms in their lovely beach house at the last minute.

After a sweaty but awe inspiring day trip to Chichen Itza, we were thrilled to return to this gorgeous and extremely comfortable casita on the beach. Despite the lack of AC (typical of Tulum's off-the-grid, eco-resort hotel zone), our rooms were cooled so well by ceiling fans and strong ocean breezes, I was actually cold at night without my blanket - in sizzling June! We gazed at the turquoise waters, fell. Asleep to the sound of the surf, ate a delicious breakfast, and got a detailed report from Mateo about the mama turtle who had laid an egg on the hotel's beach the night before (Mateo tried to alert us so we could witness this miracle, as we requested, but we were sleeping too deeply).

In addition to the extroardinary beauty, comfort, and service, and the absolutely ideal location, I love that the hotel works with local biologists to protect the many turtle eggs that are buried at Turtle Cove each season. I would love to stay a week at El Pez. It's a perfect spot for couples or small families who want a tranquil, natural, yet luxurious setting.

Room Tip: The beach house would be ideal for a family with kids, grous, or anyone who wants to cook or store t...

Hi Jim,

What a wonderful review of our hotel you have written, and you have only stayed one night..!
It was really nice having you and your family with us for such a short time period.

The location of the hotel, Turtle Cove, is perfect to see turtles come out of the ocean to find a spot to lay their eggs. We are happy that we can share such special moments with all our guests.
At this moment, most of the baby turtles are starting to hutch from the eggs, seriously amazing to see. And all of this is happening just a few meters in front of our hotel!

We would love to share these special moments with you and your family again in the near future!

Thank you so much,

El Pez team

Our stay in Tulum was made all the more special by staying at El Pez. Mateo and every other staff member there made us feel welcome and at home. Mateo is unbelievably quick at getting things done, organising day trips and advising on where to go and what to do. Plus, true to his word, he came and found us when the turtles were laying eggs on the full moon as he had promised he would do. El Pez is a very beautiful hotel and sits on my favourite bit of coastline in the area. Instead of just a slew of tourists, there are also local fishermen, albatrosses diving into the water all day for fish and the little rockpools and curve of the bay give you a nice variety of views. That and GREAT views from the rooms means I can't wait to go back and stay at El Pez again. I just hope Mateo and the lads are all still there when I return!

We just returned home from our week-long honeymoon stay at El Pez and are already hoping to make it back someday!

The entire staff made our stay comfortable, relaxing and fun - anything we wanted to do, they made it happen (even late night off-the-menu dessert and a trip to the store for flowers, candles and iPod speakers).

Mateo and Andrea had the best suggestions for places to go and things to do during our stay - and they always called ahead to make the arrangements for us (massage on our balcony, private snorkel tour in the ocean and at a cenote, watching a sea turtle laying her eggs, yoga lesson, downtown eateries/bars, etc., etc.)

We had an amazing view from Suite 12 and the breeze was wonderful. Everything in our room was immaculately cleaned and ORGANIZED everyday. Although the hotel was fully booked, we frequently felt like the only people there - so much personal attention from the staff and such a peaceful, quiet setting.

We feel like we had the best honeymoon possible and it is largely because the staff at El Pez are so amazing. THANK YOU!! We wouldn't dream of staying at any of the other hotels.

-Dave and Steph

When we arrived in Turtle Cove pulling up to the hotel was magnificent. The beauty of the beach and the background was just overwhelming. When we arrived only 3 out of the 4 rooms was ready (as we got there a little early) but no worries... we were offered our complimentary cocktail as soon as we walked in. All we needed to do was relax and feel the breeze with a delicious drink as we waited for that last room to be prepared. The concierge/hotel manager asked what we preferred to drink for breakfast as they would be delivering either coffee or tea to our rooms in the morning. What service! So I won't bother everyone with how wonderful every moment of each day was but skip to some key highlights...

Pros: Rooms are great and comfortable, big beautiful balconies with comfy chairs to lay on, Staff is AWESOME!! Especially the bartenders who made us the most delicious fresh daiquiris and margaritas. REAL fruit in all the drinks (seriously the best we had the ENTIRE trip), the complimentary breakfast was like none I've ever had in all the world. From the delicious latte (we tried to buy some of the espresso beans they were so good), freshly squeezed juices (watermelon, papaya, orange, anything they had available), the yogurt & granola with fruit plate and then your choice of eggs and bacon with potatoes. After my first breakfast I looked forward all day to the next day's breakfast it was so delicious. The beautiful and quiet beaches, the hammocks, the comfortable beach chairs and the breathtaking views.

Cons: Only one- mosquitoes... which are completely out of the hotels control!! Pack bug spray!

Compared to the hotels in Cancun this is a gem! This by far blew the other places out of the water!! I can't wait to go back!!!

Room Tip: The beach cabanas are great but I also loved the King Size Ocean front room. The second floor rooms...

Dear Janna,

Wow, thank you for taking your time to write such a great review! We are all very proud to read your comments!

We recently hired one of the well-known chefs here in Tulum to help us put some new special dishes on our menu. This with great success! At the same time we have also finalized our cocktail menu with new creative cocktails with fresh ingredients and special touches to it!
We are happy to hear that you loved all of them!

Once again, we are happy to hear that you and your friends had such a great time with us!

Much love,

First, my girlfriend and I have the luxury in life to travel to many great places around the world, stay in top hotels, and eat the best food from mild to exotic. A common theme of a great vacation is the staff, the location, and the food.

el Pez has it all.

Ask for room 3, best view, IMO. Bruno and Mateo are great host as are the brothers who work the bar. Bruno was excellent and always ready to help us with anything. He and Mateo pointed out the best night spots and local hangouts. Local dancing, best beaches, and a hard to find ATM when we needed it. Use the Supermarket before you get to the hotel as its the only one around that works all the time.

The view in the am was breathtaking to say the least. The beach was cleaned every morning in front of our room and the sand was amazing. A few rocks but otherwise we felt we had gone to a tropical island by ourselves.

The rooms are spotless, new towels every day for beach and pool, and hot coffee, actually really good coffee from the large expresso machine downstairs left in a romantic basket everyday at 6:30. We lounged naked everyday on our deck having coffee and looking at the sun rise.

The only word i can think is Amazing! See you next year Bruno, your the best!!

Room Tip: Room 3, corner view and right on top of the bar. as a note this place has a great bar

We travel to Tulum, Playa del Carmen area about 4 times a year. When in Tulum we like to stay at Le Zebra, it was booked for the days we wanted and decided to stay at their sister property El Pez..Was amazing, the rooms are so private beach quiet food great, staff fantastic. The staff especially management, concierge are top notch, made us feel like family. Anything they could do to make us feel welcomed and comfortable they did. Where B Playa had zero hospitality El Pez had the utmost.. We wouldn't stay anywhere else when traveling in Tulum.. We'd like to thank the staff for making our stay so comfortable.. and of course look forward to staying at El Pez again soon!
