“Really nice and spacious room, well equiped kitchen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2009

We got there without a reservation, they were friendly and helpful.
Clean rooms with nice wood work and tiles in the rooms, it had AC and fan.
The kitchen was perfect to make a hot breakfast, with a small table set.
They have a small parking area. La posada is 7 blocks from Ave.Tulum, where all the restaurants are.

Posada Yum Kin is a cool hotel with great style and is ecologically minded. We’ve traveled to many places and were impressed with PYK’s natural building materials and use of renewable energy sources. The courtyard felt Eden-like with its lush flora, soothing waterfall, parakeets and an amazing spiral staircase that led us upstairs to our marvelous tree top suite.

Outside our porch area hung an inviting hammock for a leisurely nap. Inside our room was a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, with lots of seating. Our two beds were made up in white linen with charming towel designs. The organic bath amenities were divine!

While PYK’s location isn’t Main Street, it’s a short walk into town for meals, groceries or shopping. We flagged taxis to visit the Mayan ruins and booked a tour to Sian Ka’an. One driver took us to the most pristine white sands beach which costed under 4usd from our hotel. As urban dwellers from NYC, we prefer places that tell a compelling story and invite us to stay. PYK is a truly unique eco-hotel leading the way as an alternative to beach resorts.

From the moment I found Posada Yum Kin on trip advisor and talked to Dan I knew we would love it. Getting to Tulum we found the hotel with no problems. The owner was there and she was so helpful, she lent us a cooler, an umbrella for the beach and some legos and toys for the kids. We loved this hotel. Our room, #7, was on the top floor at the back with a nice little porch with hammock and inside a separate room with curtains with a king size bed for the adults and baby and a double in the living area. It is also equipped with a fridge, propane hot plate and lots of filtered water. Although this room had no A/C it had to overhead fans and all the windows opened for air circulation. My husband was a little worried at first about the no A/C but it turned out to be fine in the end. The hot water was most of the time available except for sometimes in the evening which was fine as it is Mexico and a cool shower is what you want. Although after further reflection I thnk it just took a while for the water to heat up. I just can't stand letting all that water run down the drain. They supplied us with beautiful Merida made shampoos and soaps which we later found to buy at a kiosk in a mega mall in Merida. I greatly recommend this hotel to anyone who would rather stay in the Pueblo instead of the beach as it is VERY affordable and close walk to most anything. The only downfall was the large amount of dogs across the street that would go off barking when anyone went past at night. This was remedied by using my earplugs and sleep aid/allergy pills. But I am a really light sleeper and it didn't seem to bug the kids or hubby. Also my son got in the habit of yelling HEY at the dogs because he heard dad doing it. It was cute.
We will definitely stay there again when we come down.

Our family of four stayed at Posada Yum Kin for 5 nights in March. The owners were fabulous - loaned us equipment for our kids, pointed us to good local shops, just hung out and chatted and made us feel comfortable in every way. This is a small family run inn located on a quiet street in a neighborhood setting. If you want to be in the center of the action or right on the beach this is definitely not the place for you. But if you want a quiet. friendly place that gets you out of the tourist zone and into a real neighborhood then this place is the best.

Duirng our trip to the Yucatan, we were busy from sun up to sun down looking for birds to photograph. We enlisted the bird guide services of Luis Ku Quinones from Motmot Birding Tours. He is a locat quide living in Cancun. My husband is a semi-professional bird photographer and he enjoys getting close up photographs of birds for scientific reference journals. We use Trip Advisor faithfully to select our lodging and that's how we found Posada Yum Kin. As usualy, the reviews were spot on and we greatly enjoyed our stay. We found the rooms clean and well decorated and appreciated the big bottle of free water and the refrigerator. We bought fruit from the local markets and it was handy to prepare them in the small kitchen area of each room. The hotel is less than one year old and is furnished nicely with yucatan style furniture and colors. We highly recommend this hotel.

Perfection in design and decor. Lots of natural beauty, primitive art, rooftop stargazing. Totally eco -minded, off the grid, solar, natural materials and amenities. Warm welcome, laid back vibe, but luxurious. Safe and secure in every respect.
Kitchenette in a tree house, hammocks, balconies, banana trees in the courtyard, etc.

Short car ride to Tulum Pueblo main street shopping, restaurants, etc. The "real" Mexico-not all sanitized, but natural family life, amazing hole-in-the-wall street vendors, catering to a bustling local population.
Totally non-touristy with prices to match. Get pesos with your ATM card from the bus station, and prepare to bargain!
Local food is great-Pollo Bronco- a whole, expertly chargrilled chicken, cleavered up, ready to stuff your own tacos with fresh salsa & cabbage-muy muy sabrosa (total for two-$8.50 with soft drinks).
The locals are lovely and open-hearted; there are the tourist spots, which cater to English speakers, but a little Spanish will take you a long way.
Get up early (7:00AM) to see the Tulum ruins like they should be seen- relaxed, uncrowded, not unbearably hot in the morning, with time to swim in one of the world's most picturesque beaches.
Must do shopping- Mixic- funky day of the dead items and gorgeous, authentic artisan pieces from $5.00-$200 American (Not a "bargaining" spot!).
We'll be back! Many kudos to Dan Bork and his vision of a small eco-inn.

The hotel is a little hard to find but is totally worth the search. Absolutely beautiful rooms, decorated in excellent taste. excellent service. Even has a terrace on the third floor where you can see the parrots coming in from the island in the morning. All this while drinking freshly brewed local style coffee
