We stayed at Posada Yum Kin last spring and decided to come back for our winter get-away. Now, we've decided that we'll come back to Posada Yum Kin every time we're in Mexico. It just feels like home. The staff is so warm and friendly. We don't really speak much spanish, but we have a great time 'chatting' with Arianna, Delia, Ascension and everyone. On this trip we learned that Delia speaks Mayan and she was happy to teach us a few words. 'El Telequech' means welcome.
The location, which last spring felt a bit out of the way, now seems perfectly positioned for our excursions each day. With a rented car, we just take two lefts and we're in position to go to Coba (another left) or to the beach -that's a right and then straight for a couple of miles. The hotel is far enough from the downtown area to be relatively quiet (the previous contributor mentioned a dog barking, but I think downtown you'd hear traffic all night -I'll take the random dog.) We like to walk in to town in the morning and along the way enjoy seeing how everyone lives -soaking up the culture.
I'm not sure how 'PYK' keeps everything so spotless, except for the fact that no one ever seems to stop doing things around the hotel. The gardens are beautiful and the exquisite pool is the best I've seen in this area. We were pleasantly surprised with bananas, papaya and mangoes for breakfast (complimentary each day). These just days before were hanging from the tree near the pool. Talk about a low eco-footprint!
The rooms! I forgot to mention the rooms! They are gorgeous! The thick adobe out walls enclose you in a literal cocoon of comfort. Each suite is an apartment to itself with a secluded little porch to laze your days away. The rooms are spacious, culturally perfect and immaculately maintained. The bathroom decor, designed with glass block and Mexican tiles, are a treat for any traveler. The kitchens are pretty much condo-like and have served our purposes well. We like to make a pot of coffee in the morning and prepare an occasional meal when we've run out of steam. It sure comes in handy!
Yes, we stayed at Posada Yum Kin last spring, last time with family and now again, just the two of us. Each time we felt well-cared for, comfortable and like we've 'found our people'. We plan to make this our place each time we come down. For us, it's a no-brainer -and we never get tired of Mexico!
