While the restaurant is not beach front, the quant atmosphere and delicious food more than make up for the location (which is right across the street from the beach). We had the pleasure of eating at several great restaurants, but El Tabano was our favorite. Be sure to try the Mexican wine, an excellent compliment to many of the meals they serve.

We stumbled upon el Tabano our first night staying at the beach in Tulum and were unexpectedly blown away. We came back at the end of our stay because it was just that good. We're pretty confident that you can't order wrong at this place. The coctails are also excellent and the 3 cheese cheesecake was out of this world. Axl, the owner, is a great guy and he is very passionate about el Tabano and making people happy. He and his buddies basically built everything at the restaurant from tables, to chairs to bathroom art and it is nice to see such a homegrown restaurant.

If we make our way back to Tulum we will definitely be back!

Loved the setting and the cute funky decor! The drinks were great and so was dinner. Great Mexican food with a French twist! Bartender was fun to chat with during the day when it was not so busy. They had live music at night too.

This restaurant is perfect for breakfasts as you do not find that many around the area, El Tábano serves delicious breakfasts as well as juices. I had a mango-ginger juice, mmmmh! delicious...

Los huevos de cazuela and enfrijoladas are the best options, though the egg yolk in the Cazuela Eggs were a little bit overcooked,

The prices at breakfast are quite acceptable,
