Bird watching in Tulum with Jorge as my guide was the highlight of my time in Mexico. It was smooth and simple to reserve the tour. Email communications were helpful and exact, thank you Sara. I was picked up at my rental home and dropped off! So easy. I was so thankful to feel none of the tourist laden congestion of the area during this tour. We spent 6 hours driving, hiking, and being present in nature immersed in different local areas. I saw 53 species of birds!!! Jorge is a guide with an amazing amount of knowledge and cultural perspective. If you want to see a different side of the area take a tour with Green Maya! It will not disappoint!

Fantastico!! It is lovely to read that your Green Maya eco-excursion was the highlight of your time in Mexico! Our mission is to protect the natural world, preserve the Maya culture and create experiences that our guests will reflect on for many years to come. To make it a memory to reflect on, it must start with seamless communications and logistics. (my pleasure ) The second part is making sure we are not bending our necks to hear the guide over the noise and traffic of popular locations. We like to connect personally with each of our guests making it more about an experience than a tour. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on TripAdvisor. Please be our guest, come back soon!

Many Blessings,
Sara y Jorge

We booked a day trip taking in the Muyin Mayan ruins and swimming through the Mangrove lake of the Sian Ka'an nature reserve and we had an amazing and truly memorable day!

Our guide Luiz was excellent; engaging, funny and a great story teller. He is passionate and highly informed about Mayan history, and culture and the environment and helped bring to life the latest research in those fields. We'd previously been to the Mayan ruins in Chichen Itza and Uxmal but came away from this tour with a better understanding of the sites we'd visited previously. Luiz would be equally comfortable giving a tour to History buffs as Birdwatchers as people interested in nature and the environment

The reserve is stunning, you take a short boat ride across the dazzling freshwater lakes before bobbing along the current past the mangroves, we spotted kingfishers, herons and buzzards along the way

I would recommend this tour to anyone.

So Wonderful! We are pleased that you now know more about the sites you have previously visited and now the Sian Ka'an Biosphere.

Preserving the Maya culture is very important to us because native cultures have the official, time-tested guidelines to living in unison with nature. We believe that we should try to mimic the way our ancestors have lived sustainably from the lands for tens of thousands of years before us. We are ultimately responsible to give that same guarantee of clean water and healthy food to the generations that come after us.

AHH Yes, Luis is a fantastic guide and someone we enjoy spending our leisure time with as well! #gonebirding :) We are lucky to have him on our Green Maya team. Luis is from the peninsula, he knows the history, the culture and the special places to visit to see wildlife first hand.

Thank you kindly for booking with Green Maya Tulum and an even bigger THANK YOU for taking your time to leave a review on TripAdvisor to help future guests make the same decision you did.

Your recommendation speaks loudly, wow!! We are truely grateful. Please be our guest and come back soon!

Blessings,
Sara y Jorge (Luis too!)

My husband and I booked a private tour of Punta Laguna. Our tour guide, Dario, picked us up at our hotel in Tulum. Dario was a wonderful guide. He took us around the Coba area and to see the Mayan villages surrounding Punta Laguna. Dario's love and respect for the environment and Mayan culture made the day very eye opening and enjoyable. Once at Punta Laguna we learned so much about the flora and fauna. We saw lots of spider monkeys (very lucky), 2 howler monkeys, multiple birds and a small coral snake. Dario showed us the Mayan Ruins within the forest. After the hike we were provided a lunch of home made tamales, fruit, nuts, and cold hibiscus tea - all delicious! Extra water and nuts were available throughout the day so we could re-hydrate and keep our energy up. After lunch we took a short break and then went for a canoe ride on the lagoon at sunset. One the way home we spotted a tarantula in the road. We pulled over to look at it and Dario guided it out of the road so it would not get hit by on coming traffic. We spent 5 days in Tulum and this was best. The entire experience was amazing. If you have the opportunity to visit Punta Laguna on a private tour, I highly recommend it. FYI - You need some good hiking shoes and most of the day. The tour was from 12P-8/9P.

My partner and I visited Tulum, Mexico for the first time ever the week of January 15-19, 2018. By far our best experience was that with Green Maya. The reputation of Jorge precedes him. As the many reviews speak to, Jorge is an incredible person/conservationist/teacher/guide. We went out twice and were able to see stunning wildlife and connect with the area in a way that didn't feel like a tourist trap, or hokey, or generic at all. We were truly moved by the knowledge and dedication of Jorge and the entire company of Green Maya to create memories that will serve us for a long time to come. This is hands down the best traveling/wildlife eco-tourism experience we have had. If you do anything to make your trip to Tulum worthwhile, we recommend you connect with Green Maya. Finally, a special salute to Sara, who helped to coordinate/confirm/arrange all the travel details and on-line correspondence that pertained to our trips. She was speedy, caring, and professional in a way that is hard to find these days. We are grateful to the entire team of Green Maya for connecting us to nature, to ourselves, and to each other. Go see where the sky is born, and enjoy!

Thank you kindly Jacqueline for your words and this awesome review! We hope that you are still "unpacking the memories" ;) and experiences created with Green Maya. We are happy that there are still places that we can take our guests that don't feel gimmicky and over-crowded. Sadly it's becoming less and less, that is why we find it important to support the villages that we play in, hoping they will have the financial wherewithal to stand strong against major developments that destroy the natural world. Our goal is to protect the natural world so that we can continue to enjoy these beautiful places for many generations to come. Please come back and see us as soon as possible. We are adding a few new unique experiences.

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin,
Blessings, love & light,
Green Maya Team

My girlfriend and I went on a half-day birding and nature tour with Jorge during the first week of January 2018. Without exaggeration, we both felt that Jorge was one of the most talented, knowledgable, and passionate naturalists that we had ever met.

Jorge picked us up at our hotel before sunrise and drove us to a freshwater lagoon within the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve. Upon arriving at the lagoon, he provided us warm coffee in reusable cups, healthy seed bars, and fresh fruit for breakfast. We then observed birds at the lagoon, followed by birdwatching along the road, in the village of Muyil, and in the jungle around the Muyil archaeological ruins. All in all, we saw 69 bird species in the wild including toucans, collared aracaris, chachalacas, ocellated turkeys, and three species of orioles (just to name a few!).

We dressed in comfortable hiking clothing, wore sturdy sneakers, and brought binoculars. However, Jorge had extra binoculars so bringing your own would not be essential. We did bring some water, but Jorge also brought a large jug of purified water in addition to the coffee and snacks.

The entire tour was very thoughtfully planned out, from the breakfast to the birding locations. Jorge's ability to share his love of this beautiful place clearly comes from his heart and the experience was by far the most memorable we had in Tulum. In fluent English, Jorge imparted his love of the region's flora and fauna with humility, reverence, and depth. We can't wait to visit the area again to take another tour with him.
