Mina is brand new, just had their grand opening last Friday (June 10, we drove past and thought "wow, we need to try that"). The hotel it shares space with is Maria del Mar, our taxi driver knew that one but didn't know the restaurant, just fyi. Our first visit was Sunday night, they were still brand new, still learning the limited menu, but we really enjoyed our meal and brought friends back with us this past Friday night. The food was great both times but had substantially improved in the week. We loved our waiter, Manuel!

Mina cooks their meat either in an open oven or on spits over a firepit right on the street side (great marketing, IMO, it looks and smells amazing). They had a whole lamb, a whole suckling pig and massive beef ribs (Angus) on spits, and cowboy ribeyes for the grill. I believe they said they were adding a chicken dish and eventually will add fish, but for right now it's all pretty simple. There are quite a few side dishes/salads/appetizers--I had the roasted carrot salad, pretty amazing, and my friend had the potato croquettes stuffed with prosciutto and cheese, delicious but the two croquettes are pretty large so you'll want to share them.

Prices are on the high side for Tulum--my cowboy ribeye was 490 pesos, which at the current exchange rate is about $27 USD. But it was huge, more than enough for two of us, and that same steak with a view of the ocean here in NJ would probably be a lot closer to $50. Oh, and it was delicious! The wine list is also on the pricey side, but we found a comparatively inexpensive malbec for $28 that turned out to be really good. Plenty of food for two hungry people, a bottle of nice wine, tax and tips and we were out for under $100 USD. Not cheap, but not outrageous in my book given the overall experience and quality of the food (your mileage may vary).

I will post pictures as soon as this restaurant is set up on TripAdvisor, but I just wanted to get the first review of this brand-new place on the beach road.
